I just read in this morning's Kansas City Star that on August 19th through Oct. 21, our Country Club Plaza will be hosting the Mickey Mouse 75-Year Celebration Statue Display! That is so freaking COOL! The CC Plaza is a very nice shopping area that boasts architecture reminiscent of Morocco, complete with fancy tilework, turrets, towers and minarets. The Plaza Lights are a famous Christmas tradition. The Plaza actually looks like a place you'd find at DL or WDW, so Mickey should fit right in! :)

Also thought I'd mention that my fair city is building a "Thank You Walt Disney" museum on the site of Walt's original "Laugh-O-Gram" animation factory in downtown KC. Yep, the original building is still standing! I haven't yet taken a trip to see it but plan to this summer. It's so great to for a Disneyphile like me to experience a little Disney magic right in my home town! :) :D

That's neat. ::MickeyMo We have them here in Chicago, but have not seen them here. I did see all 75 at WDW, and yes, they are cool, not freaking cool for me, but cool nonetheless. ::MickeyMo

And welcome to the DIS, judyfromkansas, enjoy!!!!!!!!! :wave2:

I had not heard about that Mickey thing on the Plaza- that will be cool. I have heard about the thank you walt for a couple of years now, but nothing has come of it yet as far as I know. Lock your door when you go, it is not the happiest neighborhood yet- it is near 18th and Vine, and there is a push to make that area nice. But all that is there beside the City Market is the Negro League Hall of Fame. We went there a couple of years ago and it was sad to see the building where Mickey was born had windows broken out and in ill repair.

Have you been to Marceline MO? That is where Walt spent some time as a child and is one of his favorite places, The town is the inspiration for Main Street USA. The train station/Museum there looks very familiar to WDW fans (like the Train Station at MK). The lady who runs it is a friend of Walt and was so nice! She let my kids sit and pose for Pics in a car that was part of an original ride at Disney Land! She also gives directions to the Dreaming Tree and you can sit there like Walt did as a child! It is about two hours from KC off of Highway 24. It is a nice day trip!
