Get on board! October No Buy thread

Went to the Tampa Bay Rays playoff game today. Dh bought the tickets out of his budget, so I won't count it in my total. It was expensive, but kind of a special occasion. I think I should call this our "month of fun"! We have tickets to a concert, a hockey game and I still have DD coming to town for Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party.

My roast was bad on Tuesday (I didn't see the hole in the package) and it was too late to shift gears, so we went to Chick-fil-a after open house at school. I simply must go to the store today so that I can buy stuff for dinner tonight and on the road tomorrow night. If I pack a cooler, I may be able to pull off a $0 day tomorrow, if not, I won't have another one till next week.

Tonight is a fundraiser at school for DD8. It is at Chuck E Cheese. I could go for free since I still have one free pizza/token/drink certificate, but kind of feeling guilty since the school won't make anything off it. On the other hand I am annoyed with what they are doing with the fundraising money, they put in a playground that is only for K-2 to use, my youngest is in 3rd grade and their playground is small and not even usable right now. So, part of me says don't be cheap, buy a pizza and use the coupin another day, part of me says use the coupon. We will see as my day goes on how I feel...

I'm doing bad this month and pretty discouraged with myself. First it was the tires...couldn't help it. It is our anniversary this month. Presents are expensive and we are going out. We were going to go out to the first hockey game of the season, but I've actually nixed it because of the huge amounts we are spending on everything else.Hopefully I can get this spending under control, soon.

I'm in for October. Our disney trip is next month. We just told the kids this weekend a trip to disney in 30 days! Spending this is what I'm going for.

Groceries $25 a week-eating out of the pantry/freezer.
Maybe eat out one more time this month less than $25 for the meal

Halloween costumes. DS wants to wear one I got for less a dollar last year.
DD wants to be a pirate. I just got her a piratey shirt to wear cause we are doing the pirate make over at disney. No halloween candy no one has ever come to our house :sad1:

Will buy xmas gifts as see them.
Dog food.
Clorax wipes for the teacher-it is that season.
One birthday gift-brother.
$100 a cash price for the chimney sweep this year-is that a good price?

Is it too late to jump on board? Hope not!!

My goals:

grocery - $600
eat out - $200
misc. - $200

No spending days goal - 0/10

This is a great idea, and I'm new, so please help me out with your wonderful wisdom!!

I would just love a month where something major doesn't break. Been really fun around here lately between hot water tank leaking and yesterday I had to call the fire dept.

Car needs brake job. Probably should put that off.

Usually very boring here. I think I like boring. :goodvibes

But to make up for it, I've started coming up with items to sell so its helping some.

Dont be discouraged! Tires (although probably an unplaned expense) are a must for sure!

Presents for an anniversary? Well, those are a must. A happy wife = a happy life :rotfl2:

and you canceled going to the game, which cuts a big chunk out of your optional spending!

you've taken a good step - sometimes I know just keeping track (here, or on a spreadsheet, or even manually in a calendar) helps me a lot. there are always things your don't plan for, and that's the reason for my budget! so I can try to be a bit better prepared for those things :)

good luck for the rest of the month, and keep posting - the 1st three months were the hardest for me, and it smoothed out after that :)

Oh and Beauty and the Beast out on 10-5. I will be picking that up for sure!
