Get a DVC member card on-site?

Just recently had our deed sent to Disney. I know I will probably not see our membership card for a week or two at least. However, we are booked in to a week long cash reservation at Disney next week. Was hoping to take advantage of some of the DVC perks even though it is a cash booking (ie. buying AP pass with DVC discount, visit to TOWL for drinks, food discounts, etc).

Any way for me to take advantage of these perks next week? Can I get a "replacement" dvc card anywhere at Disney?

Any advice appreciated!

Not that I'm aware of. If you bought directly from Disney, call MS or your disney agent and see if they can give you your membership number ahead of time. It usually takes a couple of weeks after your paperwork is approved to get your card.

Once your points are loaded in the system, you can get a member id card at the DVC Preview Center @ SSR.

Thank you for the info! That is what I was hoping to hear. I am hopeful now that the deed is registered on OC Registry (Verified online it was registered Aug.10)...and has been sent to Disney that they will have completed it in the system by next week...even if they haven't processed the membership kit!

Thanks

Jumping on board - was curious about the same thing. I'm in the process of getting a resale contract (ROFR wait). I'm hoping it all finishes before the end of sept. b/c we wave a trip on sept. 30th. Planning on getting APs & TIW when we get there. Is the preview center open on Sundays?

Yes, I believe the preview center is open on Sunday. While you are there, be sure to tour some of the other resort models to get a feel for what the units are like at the different resorts.

The Preview Center @ SSR is usually open 7 days a week. It may be closed occasionally for all hands training sessions.

We wanted to grab the dining plan for next weeks cash reservation. So without already having the AP I will need to add a hopper and dining package to the reservation. Will I have any issue upgrading the hopper to the dvc discounted AP after I arrive and get my membership card printed?

thanks

Not sure the answer to that. But wouldn't it be cheaper to get TIW card for $75 and get 20% off dining TS instead of DDP?

Not sure...never did dining plan so figured we would test it out on this vacation since its a regular room not a villa with kitchen. We are doing a character dining each day so am hoping it will save a little.

Just want to be sure I can upgrade that hopper to a dvc discounted AP!

You shouldn't have a problem. When you check in, ask the CM to give you a paper copy of your ticket instead of adding it to your room key. Then take the ticket, your membership card and a photo ID to a guest relations book at one of the major parks or Downtown Disney. They'll charge you the difference between the 2 day ticket and the discounted DVC AP.

The reason to ask for the paper ticket at check in because the upgrade can often mess up your dining plan credits if they do it from your KTTW card. No one wants to spend their vacation at the front desk trying to straighten things out!

Over on the theme parks board you will find a thread by Cheshire Figment. He is a CM who works / has worked ticketing and GR. All your upgrade questions will almost surely be answered in that thread. Here's a link to get you there quickly:

You should be able to get a temporary membership card. When we first signed up for DVC in December we had only signed the papers, not even all the official paperwork. We just left a deposit. Well, we wanted to upgrade our hoppers to DVC AP, and they gave us a temp. ID card to use. Once your name is in the system, you have an ID number. Call you rep, they should be able to help you.

Not to totally rain on your plans but you may not be able to do TOWL even with blue member card since you are staying on a cash reservation and it sounds like not at a DVC resort. You may want to research that before you take time to get to BLT only to be refused. Am glad you asked the question as the writing is completely gone from our OKW member cards and maybe i can get new ones at SSR. Before you decide on the DDP you may want to check out the menus and costs and compare with your cost if you pay OOP or with a TIW discount. Of course with the TIW card there is an up front cost to consider also. We have found the DDP to not be any savings for our last trips by doing some research before we went and opted to pay OOP. The only time we found it worthwhile was when we could segment a reservation and had a 1 night DxDP which allowed us to do 3 TS meals in the 24 hour period. We did a TS dinner one night and CM breakfast and Princess Lunch at Norway the next day. It is convenient to have it paid in advance an only have to pay for the gratuities (and any appetizers or adult beverages) while there. Whatever you decide have a wonderful trip.

Any DVC member may go up to the TOWL by showing their DVC membership card at least until 8/26/12. (This is a relatively recent announcement from DVC). Since the OP is going next week, he will be allowed. The only thing DVC asked is that members not drive to the CR and expect to park there.

We don't know yet if this privilege will be extended beyond 8/26.

The OP is purchasing resale. The Preview Center @ SSR can print the same plastic member ID cards that are mailed out to members.

I stand corrected - I took my info from a thread that said any DVC member staying at any DVC resort. When we stayed there all we had to show was our room keys. Hope it will be extended as we will be at AKL, OKW and maybe SSR the first week in Oct and would love to go up to the lounge for a drink one night.

Thanks to all the replies!

We are staying at GF (will be a DVC resort soon! haha)...

Called Member Services again today and still am not in the system. We hit Orange County registry on Aug.10 and DVC got confirmation Monday Aug.13. Don't care if points have been loaded...just want a member number.

So we called and changed our reservation to a package to include 4-day hoppers and DDP. We chose the dining plan because we have never done it before, when in a Villa doubt we would, and thought since we are in GF we would do up the trip with mostly character dining and TS...am going to keep a tally of what the cash costs would have been all week so I have an idea for next time.

So now once I arrive I will ask for paper tickets, hope by Monday we are in the system...hit SSR and get DVC member card printed and then over to Customer service to upgrade to AP.

Fingers Crossed!

I'm thinking in this case you may do better with dining plan this time rather than TIW. (normally TIW seems to be best for us over DDP). I say this because you mention that you're going to Character dining locations for the most part, and they can get quite expensive. I'm sure you'll have an excellent time on your vacation! :thumbsup2

Well after calling daily (they started remembering me by the end)..finally received a membership number. No points loed yet...but got the number...so off to Saratoga tomorrow to get my card and get these hoppers upgraded!!
