Germany trip cancelled

I'm amazed at how Tauck has so many tours to Europe already filled. Germany included. What's the deal that ABD is having trouble?

I hate with a passion group tours. I believe in so much building and designing my routes. Designing routes is my passion so I never understood why people do group tours. But what ever floats your boat that is all that matters. I for the same reason hates cruising. I just believe in doing things yourself

Having looked at route I think its a rip off. firstly the hotels they picked are moderates at best. And Tauck has much more better hotels. I also wonder what Disney has with Germany ? Maybe that is mean. I just think you could do a very nice group tour with Guy Rubin in China for that amount

Maybe the demographic Tauck caters to? Unless you're talking about Tauck Bridges, then it seems like a conundrum to me also. But, with Tauck geared more towards an older crowd who may not be as concerned with going to Europe right now vs families who may be a little more worried to take their children?

Pure speculation on my part.

Is it better to book air with the ABD at the same time through ABD? I guess then the airfare will be totally refunded in case of cancellation? Those that are getting airfare back. Is it because of trip insurance?

You don't have to book air with ABD at the same time you book the trip itself. I booked our next ABD last June or July, and I didn't book the air (through ABD) until last month.

Doesn't seem to be a demographic issue. Most of the Tauck Bridges European itineraries and river cruises are sold out or close to sold out for the summer.

We are on a Tauck Family River Cruise this summer instead of the ABD version. Not at all worried about unrest in Europe. DH travels there monthly for work and it's not been a problem at all. But I can tell you that we are able to put DD18 in her own cabin on the Tauck boat with no single supplement, whereas she would either pay double or be on a fold out chair in our room on the ABD river cruise, for a lot more money.

I know the river cruises for ABD are full as well, so the sold out and guaranteed go are not as big a deal, but maybe part of the reason some families are moving away from the European ABDs is other companies' far more friendly attitude toward an uneven number of travelers in a family. Even for our Budapest pre-night with Tauck, where the hotel is not able to accommodate a third person in a room and we are booked into two rooms, we are paying far less than we have for ABD prenights with DD on a rollaway.

So....Germany isn't gonna be possible for me to rebook for this year. Thinking of adding Scotland to Spain (that's the only other European itinerary on my list).

Just out of curiosity...will they let you add Scotland for the same price as what you originally booked the Germany trip for, or do you have to pay the difference?

I've been to both countries (only Germany via ABD, though), and Scotland is fantastic. I'd go back there in a heartbeat, but it's one of ABD's more expensive trips, which is a big reason why I chose other ABD itineraries.

I'm not sure what kind of itinerary you are looking for, but personally, having been on the Germany ABD, I don't think it is something I would have fully appreciated as a solo traveler. I picked it for my (then) 10 year old son. For kids, it's fantastic! And as his parent/traveling companion, I loved it, too. But as an adults-only or a single adult traveler...IMO, there were just too many activities that were kid-focused. If I were traveling strictly as an adult, I would not have particularly enjoyed the Grimm's Fairy Tale-themed day trip to Alsfeld, the archery lesson in Waldeck, the dress-up and pretzel making activities in Rothenburg, or the Steiff Museum (the tour or the animal-making activity). Don't get me wrong, doing all of those things with my son was very enjoyable, but as an adult/solo traveler, there are just too many other fun/interesting things to do and see in Germany.

Hopefully it works out for you! The Scotland trip is on my list to do someday, although, I think Ireland is higher (especially after you and Cousin Orville spoke so highly of it).

This is actually one of the things that is causing us to look elsewhere for our trips. While ABD may offer "some" adult exclusive trips, they don't seem to have an itinerary that would match it.

Frankly, I am really surprised ABD doesn't change the Germany itinerary more for the adults-only trip. The Steiff Museum for adults...really?!? In the moment, it seemed to me to be a bit juvenile even for my 10 year old (the museum tour is very much reminiscent of It's a Small World at WDW/DL, although, he didn't complain one bit!).

Unfortunately, it's like I've said in other posts. Single adults and adults without children are not Disney's key demographic, for any of their offerings.

Scotland is still on my list. My DW and I went years ago on our own, and had a wonderful time. I'd like to take my kids at some point.
