Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Robin: Please don't give up on fixing the issue with your computer! It's awful without you here when you're not working. We miss you! What the heck is up with Nell? We miss her, too!!!

Hi guys!! Hope all is well. Feeling pretty good this morning. Actually slept well, even with Mike coughing up a storm. Didn't hear him at all.
Took Tyson for a short 1/2 hour-45 min walk already this morning. It is cloudy a bit rainy, but not too bad. Really enjoyed it.
I had a bit of oatmeal last night. I put some truvia in it with s/f vanilla syrup. Tasted like rice pudding to me!! I am having a bit more this morning for breakfast. The scale kept me at 169 after the oatmeal last night, so going to add it in a bit. I am doing 1/2 cup water to 1/4 cup oatmeal. I am thinking that is almost a cup of oatmeal cooked.
Went to the reflexologist last night. He worked on my feet and my knee. I have no pain at all in my knee now. It was really something to witness and have done. I made another appointment for next week. I need him to work on my back also. The lower and upper (by my shoulder blades and neck) are really bothering me. Not as much since he worked on my feet and legs.
They also told me to drink Stinging Nettle tea. They told us where to pick it locally in April and May (the best times) and how to dry it, prepare it and such. He said it will give me the energy I am lacking. He also said about my adrenal glands, he said my thyroid is starting to get lazy (for lack of better words. I will have to have my doctor run a tests on it and make sure he checks the T3 and T4 levels. I know it's in the CFS book, so I need to check on it to be sure.

WARNING: MAY BE TMI:

he and his wife told me about coffee enemas. they explained how to make one and how to do it. I did one last night and this morning. My intestines and stuff feel so much better!! They are also getting less "poofy". They told me a lot of cancer patients will do this and it helps get rid of the tumors.
Ok, figured that was enough of that LOL. But it has made me feel better already. Not the bloated feeling.

I hope everyone has a great day!! I'll catch up later.

Kathy - I would love to find a good reflexologist around here. I went to one a few years ago, but all she did was talk during the 45 min. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and about nothing interesting either! I'm glad you're feeling better. I remember Michael Landon talking to Johnny Carson about coffee enemas. I remember Johnny's face. :rotfl:

I love that we are all exploring new ways of eating. I have a couple of books on raw eating by Natalia Rose. I know it's not something I could do full-time, but once in a while. We went to a restaurant in NYC called Quintessence that is all raw and had soup there a few years ago. I don't even remember what kind it was, but I remember that it was okay.

Last night while I was trying to fall asleep I was so hungry, but too lazy to get up. I was thinking of all the things I would eat today. When I woke up I wasn't even hungry.

Stop and Shop had 'Pepsi Throwback' recently. It was the old packaging and it said 'made with real sugar'. I guess if people demand it in the USA they'll bring it back.

We're expecting a washout this weekend. The rain is supposed to start tonight and end on Monday. My son is upset because the St. Patrick's day 'Pub Crawl' is scheduled for Saturday. I think they will reschedule. It's a big fundraiser for local causes.

Kathy - we're the same on the scale. I had my thyroid checked too but it was completely fine (thinking that's why I wasn't losing weight unless I was only drinking liquids). I do coffee enemas at least once a month. They are fantastic and make you feel so much better!!! Did they tell you about colonics hydrotherapy too lol :) Cleans you out even more! Talk about TMI!!:scared1:!

Hope you are having a nice morning!

Cindy: Dr. Teitelbaum has some wonderful chapters in his book about why thyroid tests are so unreliable. He believes in treating to the symptoms more than to the test. His book is called From Fatigued to Fantastic. It also has an appendix for physicians you can take to your doctor. My doctor was enlightened and impressed.

Good afternoon everyone!!

I don't want to be counted among the MIA's, so here I am!:wave2:

Lisa, I was incredibly surpised at how similarly you and I are loosely following MM. It made me laugh. It worked so well for me after such a long plateau. I can't completely walk away from something that I know worked so perfectly for me. I hate to sound redundant, but the monotony of step one and two really bothers me, I'm so bored with the foods. It sounds like JP's birthday was a great success, and him getting his g-grandfathers scarfs was so heart warming! Aw!:goodvibes I know all too well about the southern fried chicken, gravy and homemade biscuits!! My grandmother taught my mother who in turn went to great lengths to make sure I knew and perfected them. That and my beef and noodles, and chicken and dumplings are the most requested of me by my family. Oh how I wish I didn't know how to make them! Lisa, I will be emailing every single one of you my before and after pics just as soon as I get brave enough to face the camera! lol I know the change in me is huge, everyone tells me so all the time. I just have to gather the guts to say, "Here I am, now take my picture!" Arrrgh!

Kate, take heart about Demi, I know and understand how heart wrenching it can be. I have not one, not two, but three self starting girls with very similar traits. They're all very successful in their work places. They were lucky enough to get in on the ground level with older folk that recognized their excellent work ethics and keen eye. They all have complained, just as Demi, about fellow coworkers not pulling their weight and bringing drama into the work place. She will learn to keep her thoughts to herself when necessary, and will learn from her experience, I'm sure.

Will someone please give me a little more information about "eating raw"? Diane? Cindy? I'm too cheap to put money out on a book before I know what it's all about. I've been mapping out a garden for spring and honestly don't know what to plant besides cucumbers, tomatoes and jalapenos. We have five acres, so it can be large enough to do just about anything I can imagine. I just can't imagine, I guess. :confused3 I'm very open to suggestions on this!

Diane, that Pepsi throw back is making a huge comeback around here. When I was getting groceries last week I heard one of the clerks saying they can't keep in on the shelves here. I didn't know anything about it had changed until they said they were bringing it back. Ah ha.

Coffee enemas! Kathy it's so good to hear you're doing well, and I'm so happy that your knee is no longer bothering you.

Pony, I remember you saying that you're still on dial up? Could something in the up dating of this site be what's caused you not to be able to post at home because of the dial up connection? It's hard to imagine, but we've only had high speed available to us here for about a year and a half. Before we got it, we were unable to access many things online. Man, I sure don't miss them dial up days! I can't wait to hear how well you do with your new way of eating. You and I are in the same boat, my tummy is really all that's left for me to lose in. I want it down and away in the worst way. My DH tells me constantly that "You're fine now" but it's hard to settle when I've come this far with my loss. I wish you much success with it!

I've been able to get four consecutive cycle rides in this week, loving it! I'm not focusing on distance or timing yet, I'm just working on conditioning for the first couple of months. I'm gaining confidence and am loving every minute of it. It feels great to feel this kind of muscle fatigue, I've missed it. I was so mad at myself, I kept forgetting to measure myself and when I finally remembered this morning, I found that I'd not gained an inch on any part of my body since my last pre Thanksgiving measurements! So now I'm all excited again. :goodvibes

Hugs to you all!:grouphug:

Thanks Lisa - another book soon to be amongst my collection :) Hope you are having a happy Friday!

Pam: You are such an inspiration! You're also a very talented writer and I can't tell you how much I enjoy your posts and miss you when you don't chime in; even though we know you are there.;) I can't wait to see your pictures! I have a feeling this modified Step 2 is going to work for me. I hope I don't mess up my husband! I'm beginning to see the under musculature of my abdomen again. Still have a pouchy lower bit, but the waist area is getting some definition again. Used to be my best part, so I'm glad to see the light at the end of the tunnel. My legs are a mess still, but I'm back on the treadmill and feeling much more hopeful.

My doctor always said what you eat this week shows up next week, not right away so I guess I'll try my experiment for two weeks and see how the scale and clothes measure.

Had a stressful phone call with another agent yesterday and felt myself wanting to go for crunchy/salty. It's a scary feeling. Seeing you all in my mind's eye is more helpful than you will ever know.

Oh, and in case anyone is keeping track, I put my coffee in my mouth today!:lmao:

Pam - I'm basically eating all fruit, veges and some whole grain breads. Some days oatmeal in the morning with fruit. Lunch is usually a sandwich on whole grain pita (all veges...no cheese with hummus), dinner I usually cook up vege mixtures. Here's a recipe I'm going to try this weekend...

Black Bean Chili

1 small onion, chopped
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
1 cup of water "or" vegetable stock (I used the vegetable stock)
1 cup of apple juice
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 (3.8 oz can) pickled green chilies
1 (19 oz can) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 (5.5 oz can) tomato paste
1/4 cup basmati rice
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, minced
1/2 cup vegan "cheese", grated

In large saucepan on medium heat, saute the onions in oil until translucent. Add the red peppers and saute for an additional 2-3 minutes. Add water (or veg. stock), juice, oregano, cumin, salt, cayenne, and green chilies. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in the beans, tomato paste, and rice. Cover with lid and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until rice is cooked; stir occasionally to prevent from sticking. Stir in cilantro just before serving and top each bowl of chili with "cheese" garnish. Makes 2 large or 4 small servings.

:rotfl: Lisa, you have no idea how close I came to saying. "You guys are putting your coffee in the wrong spot!":scared1: ...but was too afraid to! OMG lmao!

You have tummy definition!? I'm so jealous! I've never had hips or thighs and have often wondered which would be harder to lose, tummy, or hips and thighs? My vote is for tummy's! :headache: My legs make me look like I could be the Hulk's mini me!

Thanks for that Cindy! That sounds very doable to me, I could very easily eat like that. I'm addicted to hummus and missed it for so long. I used to make my own but now I just buy it. Please keep us posted as you progress with this. This has gotten super interesting to me now that everyone has chosen to mix things up a bit. I'm so proud of us all for doing it instead of converting back to old bad habits.

Thanks for my laugh of the day Lisa!!

Pam - This website (http://www.living-foods.com/recipes) has a lot of interesting information on eating raw. Wow - you're going to have a fantastic garden. What about growing green beans, broccoli, and cantaloupe?

Hi Cindy. They didn't tell me about the colonics hydrotherapy, but I did see information on it when I was researching the coffee enema. I wanted to read up on it tonight. I am extremely interested in this. I want to totally detox myself. After all those years of smoking, not eating right, and just plain not taking care of myself, I feel a need to do this.
Can I ask how much coffee you use for the enema? I think she said a pint, but not sure. I know online some have said as much as a quart. Possibly as much as you can hold? I can only hold the pint for about 5 minutes, and need to work my way up to 15!
Also, do you do it once a day or more like twice a day? Also, how long do I continue to do them? For a week? I know I still have lots of waste to get rid of.
Thanks for the help on this Cindy LOL. I am learning. Just don't let Robin hear us talking, or she'll be paranoid that we will make her do one :lmao: (Love you Robin even though you can't get on here at home :()

Mike and I were actually talking last night about Michael Landon doing that. The people I work for that the husband has pancreatic cancer has done them also. So, not only is my coffee going in one end, it's going in both!!:scared1:

I can barely remember when soda used to be made out of sugar. You couldn't drink a lot of it because it was so sweet. They then started producing HFCS because it wasn't as sweet and more cost effective than sugar. You can drink a whole 2 liter of soda and it not be extremely sweet as it would be if you used regular sugar. It's the food industries way of having consumers purchase more and more of their products.

We are also having a wash out this weekend. We had rain last night, and it's been cloudy all day. Our basement has already began taking on water last night :( Not looking forward to this at all. We have to help Mike's niece move tomorrow too. She rented a U-Haul, and I'm hoping it's big enough for all her things. When we moved her last fall, she didn't have one, and it was a mess. And it dumped rain the whole time and it was a chilly day. I will be prepared tomorrow for sure!!
I hope the fund raiser gets rescheduled for a nice warm day!!

I used to make this a lot:

Red, yellow and/or orange peppers cut into strips
Mushrooms sliced
Sundried tomatoes in a package
Fresh cilantro
Brown rice penne
Organic vegetable broth

Saute the peppers and mushrooms in the vegetable broth, along with the sundried tomatoes

Cook penne according to package

Stir pasta into tender veggies and add lots of chopped cilantro. Thicken if desired with additional veggie broth and some Thick n' Thin or add more broth to desired moistness.

Top with hemp seed - you'll think it's parm and it adds lots of protein

Quick, easy, vegan, delish!

Pam: Would you enjoy planting some chard and kale in your garden? My sister had beautiful ones this year. Oh, and her green beans were great.

Hi Kathy - I did them once a week. Did you notice an energy boost! I love when I do them as I feel FANTASTIC after. For the colonics, I had 3 of them in a 2 month period of time. That was very interesting!

For the coffee amount I believe we did 8 cups of coffee at a time. Jeff did them with me and he couldn't hold it all for a long time either...5-10 minutes. Blockage :rotfl:

I do know when I did my detox I felt so light and didn't get the mid-afternoon blahhhhhs.

I must admit this is sooo easy for me. I'm really not craving anything at all and feel full with the foods that I am eating.

My hubby and I are going to a home show tonight to see all the different vendors show us what we can't afford to do to our house, but at least it's a night out for me...yippeee...:dance3:

Pam, eating raw is more or less, eating everything in it's most natural state. Eating things "raw." Don't cook your veges, or if you do, just barely. Some people take it to the point of all their meat is raw also. I can't do that. There is a book, The Cure by Timothy Brantley that explains it well also. Here is a small excerpt from the site:

ONE MEAL AT A TIME
There may be other "food offenders" like chocolate, fried foods, etc. that you may want to eliminate immediately. And once you have successfully eliminated that food from your diet, it may be easier to improve your overall diet, ONE MEAL AT A TIME. Here are some suggestions that may prove helpful:

GROCERY SHOPPING
Fill your refrigerator with organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains like brown rice, millet, quinoa or amaranth and legumes. For those who are not vegetarians, you can also add organic meat and fresh fish (not farm raised). Please refer to pages 161 and 164 for a SHOPPING GUIDE for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

HYDRATE YOUR BODY
Follow the exact hydration instructions in Chapter 13: What to Drink and When on pages 143-148. Most people think that they are drinking enough water and yet most people are dehydrated! It is very important that you drink water that will hydrate your body. Try Fiji, Iceland, Hawaiian, Essentia or Crystal Geyser natural spring water. These waters are usually available in your health food or grocery stores. Re-hydration is a process and it needs to done slowly and carefully. Flooding your system with too much water all at once is very dangerous.

BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER, AND SNACKS
As Dr. Brantley advised in THE CURE; take 1-2 weeks to change your eating patterns for each meal. Don't move on to the next meal until you have successfully changed your eating habits for the previous meal. It is vitally important to follow all of Dr. Brantley's suggestions about what to eat and how to prepare your food. Refer to pages 155-157, 158, 160, 163-164, 166-167 for Dr. Brantley's RECIPE suggestions.

THROW OUT AND REPLACE
You may want to go through your food pantry, cupboards and refrigerator, and throw out the junk! Get rid of anything in a box, package, can or bag. Only keep canned goods in case of a disaster. But all other processed non foods eventually need to go!

Thank you Cindy. After I got home, I thought of all these questions, and I didn't want to interrupt the couple's evening. They are an older couple and sweet as can be. I am feeling really good today. I did one last night and one this morning. I don't want to over do a good thing though. I am feeling pretty good. I a bit tired, but nothing too bad. Usually around 3 I am so tired I want to nap. I don't feel like napping at all. If it wasn't raining, I'd be taking Tyson for another walk
My stomach hasn't hurt at all today, and no nausea after eating either. I am only taking 1 of the candi-bactin pills at a time instead of 2. After this bottle is done, I'm not going to use them anymore and just use the grapefruit seed extract.
I'm not craving anything at all! No sugar, no milk, no bread, nothing!! This feels so good. Like I'm finally in control of myself.
The home show sounds like fun. We do that a lot too. Our house has so many things that need done to it. We are thinking when Mike gets back to work (he didn't get an interview for that job :sad2:) we are going to enclose the back patio in and extend the kitchen and dining room. That will give us a good 7' extra in length. It will be so nice to actually have room to move in the kitchen and have some counter space along with cabinet space. I am thinking I want an island with a stove in it.
