Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Beverly: You are such a good Mom! Running that coat to school! Love it.

As far as I know, you can take all of your vitamin D at once. My aunt's doctor gave her a big dose she takes once a week, so it must not be accessed all at once by the body.

I have a lunch date with Jocelyn on Thursday! Can't wait! I guess I should take a couple of pictures, huh?

Lisa - That's going to be so much fun. Are you meeting close to your town? I hope you can take some pics to share.
That's funny that you googled the park that I went to. I googled it to see what it says. I didn't know the pool was reopened! It had been closed for many years. It's on the other side of the park from where we enter. We walk up to Mohansic lake and sit on a bench to look at the lake and boats, etc. Then we head back to the car. I clocked it and it's a 1.5 miles each way.

My throat feels a lot better. Yesterday we went for a short walk in the park. In one direction the path is great, but when you turn around to come back the wind is a killer. It's nice in the warmer weather, but yesterday was still a little chilly with the wind.

Beverly - How old is Amelia? I was thinking she was a teenager when you were talking about her cooking and then you said she couldn't go out for recess. I'm confused.

Diane: We are meeting in Murphys, CA, which is a historic Gold Rush town that also has a rich Irish heritage. They have shamrocks painted in the street. It's about an hour and a half for me to get there from home and it's my favorite getaway place, so it's very cool that Jocelyn and Bob will be staying near there at their property for a few days. There is a gorgeous winery 1 mile from town that literally has 10's of thousands of daffodil bulbs planted. I'm going to call and see if they are blooming yet. If so, I'd love to take Jocelyn for a ride up there. The grounds are amazing.

Here's a link to Murphys:

http://www.visitmurphys.com/

I'm glad you had a nice walk yesterday. I got up to 30 minutes slowly on my treadmill today, so I'm on the come-back trail!

Well, only 15% of the daffodils are blooming so far, but all of the wine barrels full of tulips are blooming and that is a sight to see, as well! I'll ask Jocelyn if she wants to take a drive up to Ironstone Vineyard.

Murphy's looks like a fun place to spend the day! The shopping looks great and the history is so cool.

Where is everyone today/tonight? I'm pooped from another long day showing houses. I can't get the smell of one of them out of my nose. Hot bath and jammies early for this girl.

Love you all! Have a great night!

Is Robin just not talking to us until after the date is over???? :rotfl:

Good Evening ALL,

We are now in California for the week. It was all of 39 degrees this morning!! Needless to say we were a bit chilly. I took a really warm coat with me to do some shopping, but the sun was out so we survived!!

Beverly – thanks for the tip on the cookies. I’ll see what kind of problem I have tonight. I’m typing this in Word so I won’t lose it!

Kate – I think you can take the lab slip to Kaiser and then have them fax the results. I did that with a non-Kaiser doctor I was seeing in CA. My regular doctor asked why and I said I was seeing a diet specialists that needed up to date info. I didn’t have to pay for the lab work. I think he needs to see a different doctor there. We have such caring doctors at Kaiser here the minute I mention something she runs every test in the book.

Robin – remember on MM it is supposed to be fat that you are losing and it looks like more. The number is the key – the inches lost is the key. I think it sounds like you are doing great.

Kate – thanks for sharing the good news about Kristi. It is wonderful…..

Robin – just go and have a great time. The China thing does seem to be getting to be a bit much………….

Kathy – how many carbs are in the Slim Fast Optima shakes? You wouldn’t put the whole thing in your coffee would you?

Yes, Lisa and I get to meet in a few days!!! Exciting.:yay::yay: We have been to lunches at Ironstone with a group we used to be involved with. It is a great area. We also have gotten wines from Stevenot winery – but they had been going though some financial crisis so don’t know their status these days.

The site just asked me to log in again so don’t know what is going to happen when I try to post this. Most frustrating!!!!:confused3

Hugs to ALL:grouphug:

Afternoon everyone!! Just got home from work. I don't think I could have handled a full day. Really tired today.

Robin, hope you have fun tonight! I'll be thinking of you!

Lisa & Jocelyn, that is great you get to meet to lunch. I know you'll have a great time. If you go to the winery, don't get drunk!!:drinking1

I went to the nutritionist/holistic guy yesterday. He did an electromagnetic thing on me. It was really interesting. It is showing that my kidneys, adrenal glands, small intestines, and sinuses are all compromised. I am continuing with the probiotics, and yeast stuff (bactiyeast I think) and added licorice plus to it. That deals with the adrenals and the immune system. He said absolutely NO DAIRY AT ALL!!! He said my body doesn't like dairy. I just bought some yogurt (I'll give it to Tyson, no one else likes it) an big thing of cottage cheese (hope Carrie eats that) and a few other things. I got some soy milk, no sugar added and plain. I added some splenda to it and some s/f vanilla syrup. It was ok. But I am thinking no more coffee. Didn't like the soy milk in it at all. I will probably be of plan so to speak. I need to concentrate on my no dairy, no sugar and such. Still low carb, but not sure if it will be as strict as step 1. He wants me to eat every 4 hours even if it's just a peanut butter sandwich. He mentioned Ezekeal (sp) bread. Anyone know about this? I need to google it I think. He said our health store sells it. Hope it tastes good and isn't too expensive. Oh, and he said NO FRUITS too. I can put lemon in my water, but nothing else fruit wise for a while.

Ok, I'm done rambling. I'm glad I got the Adrenal Fatigue book when I got the Fatigued to Fantastic book. Off for a nap I hope. I have a lot of running around to do also.
Later everyone. :grouphug:

Ezekiel bread is sprouted grain bread and is very good for you, but the carbs don't match our program, to my memory. If you eat it, make sure you keep it refrigerated at all times. My chiropractor and his wife got food poisoning from leaving it in their car while they went shopping.

You can do Step 1 with no dairy - you can do it! Have you tried almond milk? The vanilla unsweetened one is really good. I make my shakes with it. Silken tofu is another great option.

Look at your arrow chart and pick foods you can have and make your meal choices out of them. Clean meat, fish and fresh veggies, nuts, seeds, low carb whole grains. Keep raw almonds or walnuts with you at all times. That will fill the 4-hr. rule nicely. You can put pb on flax crackers and it's a freebie.

If it makes you feel any better, no human is really suited to drink milk. It's for baby cows and we don't have the enzymes in our gut to digest it properly for the most part. You can get better food in other ways.

To your health, Kathy! You Can Do This!

http://www.tofutti.com/btcc.shtml

Kathy: Above is the link to Tofutti. They make a lot of dairy free products. We love the Better Than Cream Cheese product. It has 9 carbs per 2 T so you could have one T at a time on celery or flax crackers. It's truly better than cream cheese.

Thank you Lisa!! I am going to check out the website you provided. I will have to try the vanilla almond milk. May I ask what brand you use? Also, can I get a small container, say a quart, as to a half gallon to see if I like it first? I know cow's milk isn't good for us at all. I was brought up on fresh cow's milk. I remember going to the farm (about a mile away, we were friends with them) and them putting it into the glass gallon containers. It tasted so good LOL.
I didn't realize we could have the flax crackers on step 1. I will have to look for those when I go to the store when I get the energy up for it. I had scrambled eggs this morning with a whole slice (7 carb) bread with peanut butter, and 4 hours later, had another peanut butter sandwich on the bread. I haven't been hungry at all today. I am going to check out the arrow sheet and see what I can come up with.
When I made my resolution to become healthier in 2010, I didn't realize what I was getting into LOL.

Lisa, I just checked the website quickly. I did the store finder, and my health food store carries their products!! I will have to stop in tomorrow after work with a list of things I need.
When I looked for the bread, I looked on the shelf where the other breads were. I didn't realize it would have to be refrigerated. I will check for that also.

Kathy - My local health food store sells Ezekiel Bread in the freezer section. I have the sesame kind in freezer now and it has 11 net carbs per slice.

We had alot of messy weather today. Snow and rain - yuk. Tomorrow is supposed to be okay and then another snowstorm is set for Thursday. 26 days to Spring! I've had enough of the cold.

Tomorrow I meet my 'ladies who lunch' (LWL). We're going to a diner that has a great salad with grilled chicken that I enjoy as a $5.99 special. The other diner we go to has a turkey sandwich that is HUGE. I bring a slice of 5 gram bread and split the sandwich one of my friends. We're great friends and no one bats an eye that I'm switching out the bread!

I wonder how Robin's date is going?

I use Almond Breeze almond milk. It does come in small boxes - the same size as boxed broth or rice milk. Make very sure you get the unsweetened, as there is a big difference! 5 flax crackers is only 1 carb so they are freebie, or you could eat more and make them a 5 x 5. I love the Italian ones. Watch eating too much bread within the 5 hours, though. If he wants you to eat every 4 hours find some snacks that are freebies. You could put the pb on celery and have as much as you want or eat a good handful of almonds, etc. Do you like hardboiled eggs? Once you get through your Step 1, it will be a lot easier.

Yum! Kathy could have about a half a slice of Ezekiel at a time then. That's good to know. Yes, it comes frozen and then you need to keep it cold. We keep our flax bread in the fridge too. Those salads sound fabulous! I take baggies of my crackers and even my tortilla chips when I go for Mexican, LOL! We keep them in our laps or in my purse and no one seems to notice.

I wanted to text Robin tonight so bad!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to meet Jocelyn and maybe Bob, too.

I have not tried the Ezekiel bread, but I've heard only good about it. I have thought several times of trying to make a flatbread out of sprouts. But first I have to become adept at sprouting, lol. I hope you like it Kathy. :)

Ok Pony. A full report about the preacher man, as soon as you can. I know your having troubles with the site, but I'm dying to know how it went!

I'm still doing step one. Not thrilled with it, lol. I think I'm going to move onto step two next week sometime. I'm hoping my Liver and Pancreas will be done resting by then. :rotfl: I wish I could go on as many vacations as they do.

I have a lot of success today concentrating on school work thankfully. I've got a very good friend that's a huge support with it. Marti was being considerate today too. It's just been hard to concentrate. Well, maybe today is a sign of good things to come.

I hope everyone has the rest of the night go well! :grouphug:

How exciting that the two of you can get together!
Beverly - How old is Amelia? I was thinking she was a teenager when you were talking about her cooking and then you said she couldn't go out for recess. I'm confused.
She just turned 11 last month. I do have a teenage son (15), but she is my baby (just don't tell her).
I'm glad you had a nice walk yesterday. I got up to 30 minutes slowly on my treadmill today, so I'm on the come-back trail!
Good for you on the treadmill. I haven't been back to Zumba since "breaking my butt", I need to get back on track.
Where is everyone today/tonight? I'm pooped from another long day showing houses. I can't get the smell of one of them out of my nose. Hot bath and jammies early for this girl.
I can imagine if you can't get the smell out of your nose, it wasn't a good smell. Don't people realize how much that can affect the sale of their house?

Nell - sounds like you are doing well in school.

I have a med-check Dr. appt. on Friday and I am thinking I need to get some blood work done. I guess I should e-mail Diane and ask what she needs to see so we can determine where I need to go from here. The weight loss has stalled with a small gain back, so I am not sure if I need to go back to step 1, or what. Hopefully she can let me know.

Well, I am at the office today, but I'll be checking back in to see if we hear anything from Pony about her date with the Rev. last night.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi guys!! Just resting a bit before I head back to work. I want to get it done and with this snow storm headed here tonight, that is a bit more incentive LOL. I am hoping to do get them done. We will see.

Lisa, thanks for the information on the milk, crackers and bread. I didn't get the bread yet. It's $7 a loaf here, and I needed the vitamins more right now LOL. The vitamins set me back $45 for just the CandiBacti. But if it helps, I'm more than willing to pay for it. What kind of flax crackers do you buy? I looked everywhere in the health food store, and they all seemed high in carb counts. The lowest I saw was 20 net carbs per 16 crackers.

I hope Robin is doing well. Just wondering how her date went well last night. I can't imagine it not.

Diane, be careful out in that snow tonight/tomorrow. It's to get nasty here after midnight.

Ok, going to rest for a few minutes before I leave. Catch you all later!!
