Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Kathy - I believe whey protein powder carbs would have to be counted the same as a protein drink. Almonds aren't counted since they're a neutral food. JMHO

Barb, thank you for the info. Just couldn't remember for the world of me LOL. CRS is coming back again :(
I finally put my calender to use that's in my phone though. Put all my appointments in it yesterday. I'm good until March!!

I've been laying low today. Had a bad night last night because I tried to stay up and do things yesterday. My ankle was huge and I burned the skin with ice, even though I used a towel. Aloe seemed to help a lot. My respiratory virus decided to give me a relapse yesterday and choked me to death while I was trying to talk to a client. I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself and taking the day to stay in pj's and nap a lot. What a drag! I had such great goals for January. Don't feel sorry for me, I'm just telling you this to explain why I've been MIA.:sick:I want ice cream and popcorn! And soup with noodles, but I won't give in. I have chicken broth instead and some black bean soup.

Lisa, I'm sorry your having this setback. What I use for an ice pack is an old sock (one of Mike's, he wears the over the calf ones, think tube socks, but a bit longer) and fill it with flax. I prefer flax because when you heat it for a heat wrap, it actually will produce a moist heat. And if I need it cold, I put in the freezer. I sometimes will put a bit of scented oil in it. The last one I made I put a bit of eucalyptis (sp?), lavender, chamomille, and just a bit of lemon grass. I used crushed up herbs for that one. Made me sleep like a baby. Used it on my neck. I made another one for my sinuses which has peppermint oil in it.
Good for you for not giving into the "junkie" LOL. Isn't it amazing what we consider to be comfort foods? Maybe some of the shiratake noodles would help you with the noodle thing. It always seems to help me.
 hope you're feeling better and take it easy today!! I say movies and naps are on the agenda today for you young lady!!!!

Good morning everyone! Not much going on so far this morning. Today is Tyson's 2nd birthday!! LOL. He went to Monroeville with us and we went to Petco. He met another boxer, and they had a blast playing, boxing, and just being silly. She was 5 and looked great! Making me wish I had another one LOL. I did get another boxer mug. It was 1/2 price, so a good deal. I saw it this past summer, but couldn't justify paying a lot for a mug. I can justify 1/2 off! Mike says I'm boxer crazy. I tend to agree with him. The other boxer owner saw them and grabbed one too LOL.
I got some white plain cards and envelopes to make Carrie's graduation announcements. The cards were $8 for 50 of them. I also got some white card stock to make name cards for inside them. I think Alyssa is going to design them. She is very artistic and she took computer graphic design in school. She is really good. I should try to post some of her pictures she draws here. She has people here and there pay her to draw things for her. She made Levi (my SIL) a huge drawing of Johnny Cash. It a little smaller than poster sized. Levi and Tris then went to Michael's and got it framed. It looks really good.
Ok, just rambling. I don't know if I'll post a picture or not. I honestly hate having my picture taken. Always have, always will I think. Just some things I'm self conscience about. I'll have to see. I just got it trimmed, pretty much the same way as in my FB pictures. Not the wedding though. It was professionally done LOL. But my avatar is how I wear my hear almost all the time. Just straightened. If I leave my waves/curls have their way, my hair would be all frizz :scared1:
Ok, now I am going to get ready for work. Have a great day everyone! I'll try to catch up later.

Busy day yesterday between hospital, work, gym, etc....too tired to even log on by the time I got home! Will try to catch up on the posts when I get to work later.

Funny how we want to run to "comfort foods" when we dont feel good...I know I sure could have dove into a big bowl of fried ravioli covered in butter and fried onions the past few days! Luckily I dont even keep them inthe house any more, so no way to cave to that temptation...

Heard from SueAnn, shes been off plan and regained some weight so Im trying to get her to come back here to the thread when she re-starts step 1. Diane has told her 6 weeks minimum, so I think she is going to start again soon. Seems winter and the holidays got to alot of us! Here's a prayer going out that we can all get it together and have a strong and healthy MM year! Im thinking if I lose a pound a week all this year, I will definitely be at goal by the next round of holidays...

I finally put my calender to use that's in my phone though. Put all my appointments in it yesterday. I'm good until March!!

I found one made by MRM, no antibiotics, artificial sweeteners or flavorings and it's only 1.5 carbs for a huge scoop.

Morning Y'all,

Just a quick note. Lisa I am so very sorry again about your injury. I wish I had some advice, but these days I don't know much:rotfl2:

I am on day 3 of Step 1. Funny getting this structure back in my life seems to help in putting other areas on a schedule. I am so over whelmed at times at the task ahead of me, I do nothing. Sound familiar.

My Dad continues to do well and getting much stronger. He is talking about when he goes home and I just leave it at that and try to stay in the moment otherwise get nuts!!

I am so excited to read about everyone's losses so far. I know this works.

Must be going .

Adios for now,

Gena

Good to see you Gena! You're handling Dad in just the right way. I hope detox on Step 1 isn't too bad for you the first few days. After that, it's a breeze. I went to physical therapy today. He thinks its the ligament on the side of my knee and it will heal. Says it will take 2 months - yikes! I got some exercises to do and bought some cute flats. What's a girl to do??:rolleyes1

Hi Everyone. I am way behind and have no idea what anyone has been doing. I'm so sorry. School is starting, and I am doing all kinds of things. I'm not starting the nursing until the fall, so now it's just some general class work. I am doing well and thinking of all of you. I just started back on step two.

I've got to catch up, and I really hope everyone is well. Here's to everyone! :grouphug:

Good evening everyone.
Gena, good to see you again. Check in when you can!! So glad to hear your dad is doing well. Good job on step 1. I gave up trying to figure out how long I've been on step 1. I think I'll be on it forever LOL. If Robin can do it, then why can't I? :lmao:
Not much going on here this evening. Had a chiropractor appointment then some running around to do. Got home around 6, made supper (which was a beef stir fry with snow peas, onions and carrots that I picked out. I sautee'd it in olive oil with soy sauce and tons of garlic) it was really good and filling. Hid the leftovers for my lunch LOL.
Talked to my mom this evening. She was somewhat disgusted after reading about step 1 and decided not to do it. She said there really wasn't anything you could eat. After discussing it with her for about an hour, she is going to start it slowly. She has a whole loaf of 12 grain bread she wants to finish. Dad would never eat that, and she doesn't really know anyone who would want it. I really wish she had internet. She needs the encouragement and support. Dad isn't much help unfortunately.
Where is everyone today? I guess you all have lives other than MM warriors LOL.
If I don't make it back before bed, have a great night everyone, and God bless. Sweet dreams also.
Love you all! :grouphug:

Hi Nell! You and I were posting at the same time. Congrats on starting school. I know you'll do well. We are so proud of you!! Hey, when Carrie gets her LPN, that will be 2 nurses I know!! I was wondering where you have been and thought you may have been ill. Good to see you!!

Kathy: Can your Mom freeze the bread until she finds someone to give it to? Hope she joins us soon! Help her with a few daily menus until she gets the hang of it.

Lisa, I don't think she's ready to jump in full force. I told her to go ahead and finish the bread, but to eat the MM way the too. She is only going to have 1 slice a day she said. It is 15 net carbs per slice.
I wish she had internet, as it would be so much easier for her. But I am going to copy off the recipes and give her. I told her if she had any questions to ask me and if I didn't know, I'd ask all of you. I also told her we email Diane quite often with questions. I am so excited for her to start this. I just wish dad would to. I'd have a easier time getting him to a doctor than eating MM way LOL. He is extremely stubborn.
Also, thanks for the heads up on the whey protein. Just wondering if I could use it as a flour or not. I'm thinking as long as I count the carbs I'd be ok.
Had a great 5x5 this morning. My plain greek yogurt with the splenda flavors for coffee packet. It was the mocha flavor. AWESOME!! I have the mocha and caramel flavors. I actually prefer the mocha.
And thank you for the info on the graduation announcements. I have it pretty much figured out. I am so excited to start this project! Something she and I can work on together.
Ok, off to bed. See you all in the morning.

Good Morning Everyone, and may the Lord make this a Friday to remember!! I just have a feeling that today should be a good day! Dont know exactly why, as I am still tired and want to stay home from work and crawl back into bed for the rest of the day...just a feeling I had when I woke up!

Kathy - hope your Mom eases into MM and then gets inspired as most of the rest of us did and jumps on the bandwagon with both feet! It is kind of hard to wrap your mind around it in the beginning...and if carbs have dominated your life for so long, looking at the legal foods list DOES look like theres not much to eat! For the longest time I thought my protein and veggies looked very lost and lonely on the plate with no pasta, rice, bread etc to keep them company! LOL, Im so used to being without them now, it would look crowded on my plate if they were there!

Nell - thats so great about starting classes...are you doing them online or have to go to the actual school? Explains why we havent seen you here much at all...I know I really miss your long, entertaining and informative posts!

Lisa - so glad you havent done anything to your knee that will require surgery or anything that will keep you down for longer than a couple months. I know those months will SEEM like forever, but Im sure you will continue to do well on plan anyway. Did you guys go back to step one? I cant remember who did and who didnt...

Whre is everybody? Tom, how are you and Rebecca doing now that detox is over?
Kate - you out there somewhere? Have a good time skiing?

Jocelyn - do you think this recipe sounds step 1 legal? I figure the only real countable carb would be the bread?

Monte Christo Casserole:
Mix 4 eggs with 1/4 cup cream, 1/4 cup water and stir in 6 slices low carb bread torn in pieces, 1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese, 1/2 cup cubed ham, 1/2 cup cubed turkey, and 2 tbsp parsley. Bake in greased dish approx 30 min. at 350, til set in the middle. Makes 4 larger or 6 smaller servings.

Robin - fried ravioli? Is that an Eastern thing, or a Southern thing, or what? I have never heard of that.

Here's to hoping SueAnn comes back soon!:drinking: (Laura - please note that's my water bottle I'm drinking from! :lmao:)

Morning Y'all,

I am on day 3 of Step 1. Funny getting this structure back in my life seems to help in putting other areas on a schedule. I am so over whelmed at times at the task ahead of me, I do nothing. Sound familiar.

My Dad continues to do well and getting much stronger. He is talking about when he goes home and I just leave it at that and try to stay in the moment otherwise get nuts!!

Gena - I think the structure of the MM has also brought other structure to my life. I sure hope so. Glad to hear your dad is adapting.

I went to physical therapy today. He thinks its the ligament on the side of my knee and it will heal. Says it will take 2 months - yikes! I got some exercises to do and bought some cute flats. What's a girl to do??:rolleyes1

Lisa - glad to hear that's it's nothing too awful, and that therapy should help. You needed those flats to make walking with that knee easier. I believe that is called medicinal shopping (or retail therapy)!:rotfl:

I'm not starting the nursing until the fall, so now it's just some general class work. I am doing well and thinking of all of you. I just started back on step two.

Nell - glad to hear you've been able to start back to school, but I miss your newsy posts. Check in here as often as you can.

Kathy - If you keep up with gentle encouragement, I am sure you can help steer your mom the right way. I think if you list out all of the Step 1 foods she likes, it would help, and I mean absolutely everything. Boiled chix, baked chix, rotisserie chix, hamburger, steak, pork chop, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, etc. etc. etc. You might want to list out some specific meals for her too.

Good Morning Everyone, and may the Lord make this a Friday to remember!! I just have a feeling that today should be a good day! Dont know exactly why, as I am still tired and want to stay home from work and crawl back into bed for the rest of the day...just a feeling I had when I woke up!

Robin - I hope your feeling is right about today! It's kind of quiet at the office right now, but sure to get busy soon.

I think your recipe sounds yummy, but I am assume it's 1/2 cup of ham (and not 12 cups). I thought it sounded good to layer it also and pour the egg/cream over the top. Of course, why couldn't we make Monte Christos anyway, without the sugar and jam? Hmmm.....that's an idea for this weekend if I get a chance.

Well, I'm at work for the day and looking forward to catching up with you all.

I'll check back at lunch.!

I had to take my DD18 to the Clinic today as she has a sinus infection and has been having headaches for about 3 wks. While we were there, I weighed myself and guess what? I've lost 30lbs!!! :woohoo::yay: I thought for sure that I had gained over the holidays as I wasn't too strict on following the steps, but I didn't overdo it and I guess that paid off. Yippie!

I'm waiting to start swimming until some swimsuits come that I ordered from WalMart online. I got my old suit out, and needless to say, it was not very modest anymore. All the lining had disintegrated so there was not much left between me and the world....not a pretty sight. It will be fun to get a new suit.

On the tomato paste for the pizza, mine doesn't have sugar in it and has 5 grams carbs for 2 TB.(concentrated). We mix 1 can of water with the can of paste and that is enough for 2 pizzas when you add some fresh tomatoes to it. I would be surprised if each piece had more than 1 gr carb of the sauce. It just gets kind of spread lightly on the crust. You don't need much. We are thinking of making a mexican pizza this week with some garlic in the crust, some sauce with oregano and cumin, then some black soy beans mashed into refried beans and topped with ground beef, cheese, lettuce (or shredded cabbage) sour cream and whatever else strikes our fancy. Can't wait to try this :stir:

Well, I would like to join the "bum knee" club if it has room for one more member. I somehow sat wrong when I was driving and let my knee and leg kind of fall off to the side against the door...this stretched something out and have had sharp pains through the kneecap and unable to walk. I keep trying to readjust it because it just feels like something is out of place, but haven't had much luck with this. Can you catch this from someone else online through cyberspace? LOL Kind of weird that so many of us have had issues with this lately. I know the swimming will help this once I get going.

Robin, Please say "HI" to Dennis and Rick and let them know that we're thinking of them. How wonderful that they are acknowledging Christ as their own personal savior and feeling the comfort from the Holy Spirit. What a special time for you all!

Lisa, Glad the ankle isn't broken but too bad the knee is still hurting. I'm sure P.T. will help things to feel better and heal correctly. Good luck!

Barb, You've mentioned a lot of new recipes..I hope you post them all as they sound yummy! I think we all are ready to fix some new things. I would love some legal biscuits. Are they all made with the special blanched almond flour? I need to look for that at my local health food store that sells stuff in bins....maybe it wouldn't be too expensive.

Kathy, I'm glad your knee is feeling better, also. I know that some of my knee problems come from my lower back which I just kind of wore out when I had my cleaning business and spent so much time vacuuming and mopping. Take care of yourself!!

Beverly, Congrats on your weight loss! I hope you got to choose a great sticker from the toy drawer at your Dr's office after your visit! LOL

Laura, Early spring would be a good time for you to win the lottery. Hawaii would be beautiful and all the people coming from cold climates would be in heaven to feel the warmth of the sun and lay on the beach. I'll bring the sunscreen ( or the "some scream" as my youngest daughter used to call it because it would get in her eyes, burn and she would scream. Makes sense)

Aloha to all

Carol
Step 1

Feast upon the Words of Christ

Carol congrats on the 30 pds.

My youngest son would say he was going to put on his baby soup :rotfl:

Oops Bev, its definitely NOT 12 cups! LOL, I think I fixed it so nobody else gets it wrong. I think your idea to layer it is a good one too. Fried Ravioli is an Italian thing...comfort food that is way too yummy! I refuse to tell anyone how to make it, or we will all be off plan!

Hey Laura, got your lottery tickets for this week?

Just checking in real quick, I can't believe how fast my morning went and my lunch hour wizzed by :scared1: I don't have a lot of time on the computer these days due to my frienemies at work. :confused3

Jealousy and envy is why there is Heaven and Hell.

Yes, I have a hard time with the water during the colder months, I have been drinking more of the hot green tea though.

Strangest thing happened to me yesterday, for the first time in 44 years I had a nose bleed  I was like What the french toast! :surfweb:I have read where it can be a vitamin K deficiency, so I ate a bunch of spinach yesterday. Turns out it could be from all the cold weather we have been having down here and running the heat that it might have dried up my sinuses. eeeewwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!! I hope to check back in with you guys before Monday but if I don't  to you all.

Zumba Laura

Oh Crap no!!! I guess I can only win if I play :rotfl:

Thanks for the reminder pony!!!

Nell,

what is your total weight loss to date???

Good luck with school, takes determination to go back to school when you haven't been in a while. :worship: I'm not sure I could.
