Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Just a word of inspiration of how MM is working...I lost 2 - 4 lbs. over the holidays and my favorite Spring skirt from 4 years ago fits again. Not bragging, just want to encourage those that are having trouble sticking to it that it's soooo worth it! I've never, ever weighed less in January than in November! Even without being able to exercise because of my hurts, I'm still losing.

Ok Lisa, here's a happy dance for the lost weight!! :dance3::banana::cool1::worship:
You will be looking mighty fine come spring!!:cheer2::woohoo:

It's kind of funny. When I think I can't do this anymore and have a craving, someone always has a post about inches lost or weight lost. It just gives me more inspiration. Keep up the great work!!!!

That's what's so cool about us all being here together, Kathy!:woohoo:

Lisa, how true that is!
I am ready for bed. I think that walk did me in. I got some house work done this afternoon too. My knee is hurting a bit now, but I put the ointment on it, and I'm going to lay on the couch.
Mike has taught Tyson how to talk. So he is talking so he can have gummy bears. It is sooo funny. He is always a good source of entertainment LOL.
Well, I'm going to read my prevention magazine. Mom got me a subscription for Christmas. She has been giving magazine subscriptions for Christmas for the last couple years.
Have a good night everyone!!

Kate: I will pray for Chloe's safe trip. I know how you feel.

Carol - What happened in Jamaica? I haven't heard anything. Granted I haven't been watching TV too much lately. That's a wonderful project you're involved in.

Robin - Thanks for the rundown! :) I hope your time at work flies by.

Lisa - Congrats on the weight loss - that is fantastic!! :woohoo:

Kathy - Hope your knee feels better tonight. That's so funny about Tyson.

Nell - Enjoy your studies!

I bought a pair of pants today at Macy's that were orig. $49 and when I scanned them they were $7.45. I bought them and tried them on when I got home. They were too big!! I thought Yay and then I was a little disappointed because they were such a bargain.

Good Evening Everyone

Well, when I opened my Word file it said it had saved the one that I was working on when I inadvertently pulled the plug on the computer so here it is a few days late!!!!

Kathy – glad your knee seems to be improving

Lisa – glad you are doing better, but it sounds as if you have a ways to go

Barb – would love the biscuit recipe. I do keep the almond flour in the freezer – it is one of the things I can get here.

Beverly – the pasta sauce came from Costco – it’s not too bad, but they don’t seem to have anymore. If you can find Golden Grains Marinara Sauce – that is low carb, too. Congratulations on all the weight lost, too!! I hope the dr appointment went well

Pony – YAY – you got to “talk” to Ken. Sending more prayers for Dennis, Rick and you

Laura – wouldn’t we all like to win the Lotto! Great idea!!

I made some pizza sauce out of a can of crushed tomatoes. I added Italian spices, garlic and onion and then I cooked it down until really thick. It takes just a bit spread on whatever you are putting the sauce on.

You can use an Alfredo sauce for the white garlic pizza sauce. There are some pretty good bottled ones that are low carb. Just add some garlic if you more of that flavor.
(I see that was suggested in a later post!!)

Here is Dana Carpender’s Hoisen Sauce. We like it as a Thai sauce as is.

4 Tbl soy sauce
2 Tbl creamy natural butter
2 Tbl Splenda
2 Teasp white vinegar
1 clove garlic crushed
2 tea toasted sesame oil
1/8 teasp Chinese Five Spice

Put all ingredients in a blender and blend together.
Store in refrigerator
It is a freebie on MM

Good Evening on Saturday

Was I ever glad to see most of the post I created the other day!!! At least I didn’t have to re-type the recipes.

I’ll save this one as I go along!! Hubby was just shaking his head at me!!! I know better, too.

Robin – the breakfast casserole should be fine as long as you know the carb count of your bread. It could also be made as a quiche like thing without the bread.

I cooked a turkey today and made Diane’s Pumpkin “Pie” which I cook in a soufflé dish and call it pumpkin soufflé!! We are having people in tomorrow night for dinner so I am all prepared. It takes me about 3 days to get things ready as I can’t do much on the day people are coming if I am to enjoy the company!!! We are having a big dinner party in a couple of weeks so I will start to freeze things ahead of time next week. It limits what I can serve, but seems to work.

I have been reading a lot of my old low carb books and found an interesting one where she reviews different diets and then compiles all the questions people have come up with on different sites like ours and LCF, etc. Her mantra was to ignore the scale, too as it really is so inaccurate when it come to weight. There are so many other factors involved that she recommends just measuring and going by your clothes. If you can find a place to measure fat that is a better thing to measure. Some of the new scales have that option. I think mine does, but I have to find the directions as I can never remember how to do it!!!

Nell – how great that you are back in school. Let us know what you are taking and how it is going when time allows. I, like everyone else, will miss your long and interesting post’s though. There are only so many hours in the day and using them to study is best of all!!!

Kate and Sharon – nice to see you back. As long as you can do without the white carbs you will be doing yourselves a favor, but it is so hard when many other things are affecting your lives. I hope Chloe made it safe and sound to Tacoma. I went there for my freshman year of college but couldn’t stand the cold and had to come back to California!!!

I hope everyone has a restful and peaceful Sunday.

Hugs to ALL:grouphug:

Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a restful night's sleep. I slept like a rock until I went to bed. I just need to resolve myself to sleeping on the couch until this knee is completely healed.
It is a rainy day here today, but still somewhat mild. It is around 40*. But I am ready for spring, when I can sit outside with my coffee in the mornings and evenings. I really miss that. That has always been my "me" down time.

Jocelyn, or anyone, dumb question. What do you use hoisen sauce for? I have heard of it, just never used it. I need to come up some new supper ideas. Tired of the same old thing. The stir fry the other night was great!! I have shrimp in the freezer, so I may try to make some shrimp scampi. I will make noodles for everyone but me. I have my shiratake noodles if I want them. I would just as soon have only shrimp.

Well, catch up with you all later. Have to work for a while today. Going to grease up that knee. Mike also got me a sauna suit for Christmas, and boy does it make me sweat  LOL

Later :grouphug:
Later everyone!!

Diane: Did they have the pants in a smaller size? For that bargain, it might just be worth a trip to the alterations place! I think Carol meant Haiti when she typed Jamaica. I am praying for survivors to be uncovered today. They are running out of time. They found 60 in a mall that are alive and got water to them with a hose.

Kathy: I'm using arnica gel on my ankle and knee. It's for pain, swelling and bruising. My sister used it after a surgery and recovered so well her doctor was amazed so she reminded me to use it. It's odorless and non-greasy.

I have to present an offer today up in the foothills and we are going to have a big wind and rain storm. I'm looking forward to being out anyway.

Wow! Small world, huh? My sister is such a Ross fan she joked to Mom and Dad that it would be funny for her to perish there. Bad joke, but true all the same. It's great to see your cute face!

Chloe and I spent a great hour or two in Ross a week or so ago. We had fun and got some great things.

I hope you are feeling better.

Thanks for all of the safe driving prayers yesterday - Chloe made it to Bend safe and sound. She said the 8 hour drive was "fun." Oh, to be 18 again... She has a shorter drive to Tacoma today and will have a school friend with her.

Yippee for the guardian angels on the road with Chloe! I'm glad she had fun.:)

OMG, I am so behind I don't know if I can ever catch up with your guys. I'm barely getting to use the computer, and then I have to harvest my farmville crops. :lmao: I hope everyone is well. The new laptop cord is being ordered the very next time I get paid. I miss you all!

I see that Carol had a significant weight loss just from a quick glance at the messages! Yay! I have to find out where Chloe was driving to yesterday. Arrrhhh! I hope I have the computer a little while. I also have to go and check for pre assignments on classes.

I went to visit with friends yesterday and Brenda (my friend) sent me home with a container of homemade chili with tons of beans, peppers and even mushrooms! Delicious! And with the amount I eat at a time it will last forever. I suppose I'm going to have to share though. :rotfl: Oh well. It's still really good. Hopefully it lasts a little while. I like that when she cooks that the veggies are not overcooked. Beans are so good for us too!

Well, I wanted to make sure you all know that I love you and am still with you in spirit even if I can't get my hands on a keyboard or my eyes on any posts. I put a new photo of my baby kitten Holly on facebook. I will attempt to catch up and share some more tonight. :grouphug:

Thanks, Lisa for correcting me on the Jamaica/ Haiti thing. I knew the earthquake was in Haiti and yet, when I was writing my post, I kept putting down Jamaica instead. A senior moment, again. We were able to put together about 114 hygiene kits last night and it always seems like so little. There were mounds of towels, soap, toothpaste, combs and toothbrushes to put in the bags but once they were sorted out, it was only 114 kits altogether. Just wish we could have made 1,000's and felt like we made a real big difference. I know that these kits will probably impact at least 228 lives as they are for families, I just wish I could do more.

A quiet Sunday here. Went to church this morning but didn't have my friends 2 kids as they were sick. Checked on them before, during and after church and then their parents were coming home as it had started to rain and they couldn't work on building their house in the rain. We are supposed to get a lot of rain this week as some tropical storms are headed our way. Hope to work on some sewing as the weather will preclude any outdoors activities.

Nell, sounds like school is going okay if you can just get time on the computer.

Kate, I'm glad Chloe made it to Bend safely. Making it thru that pass by Ashland is always the worst part in winter. Now she's on the flat area and shouldn't have much trouble. Wishing her a safe day of travel today.

Lisa, Hope the trip to the foothills went okay and that they like your offer. It must be nice to get out after being cooped up for so long. I'm glad the knee is doing better.

I didn't do too well on step1 yesterday. Had some snacks that were definitely not part of any plan. I'm doing better today and thinking that I just need to make a big pot of legal soup that I can munch on during this rainy week. That sounds really good

Have a good Sunday

Carol

Feast upon the Words of Christ

Carol: Soup sounds so good! Tom had some dental work so he's a big fan of soup presently. We're all in for a big hit with the storms that are coming in. We do need the water, as the lakes are very low. My clients are stuck on Hwy 80 stopped by the Highway Patrol above Truckee where they went for a basketball competition so we might have to do the offer tomorrow. Their daughter won the free throw competition though! I love that girl - she is such a positive spirit. When we were house hunting, she always pointed out features she liked, even in a dismal property. So refreshing in this age where some kids are kind of greedy. I hope everyone has a cozy Sunday evening and a great start to the week. I'm reading Pat Conroy's new book and waiting by the phone.

Hi Folks, rainy and dismal here today too...and Ali tells me they are going to get snow again tonight up north...hope you dont have that Kathy!

Tried to get some down time in today, but between grocery shopping, ponies, cooking, laundry, etc etc it seems like a Pony's work is just never done!! LOL

Had to laugh when I went to the dump today...the retired gentleman that presides over the transfer station has had a bit of a "crush" on me since we moved here...I see him every Sunday when I go, and he has asked me out on a couple of occasions. My neighbors bust my butt about it all the time, as whenever THEY go to the dump, he stays in the little "guard house" thing, but when I go, he comes running out to help me with my bags! LOL, my Godson comes with me sometimes and never fails to report back home to his parents that Ron was flirting with me! Well today he came running out in the rain and stopped in his tracks and said WOW, you're losing weight! OMG, I guess I LOVE him after all!! haha, nice to hear the compliment from someone who hasnt seen you in awhile...I have been going on Tuesdays and this was my first Sunday there since before Christmas. Bless his heart!

Watching the Golden Globes Red Carpet walk and marveling over all the celebrities and their pronouncements about all the money they are donating to Haiti Relief....not that it isnt a GOOD thing, which it is, but fails to amuse me that they feel they have to do it for the publicity...and where are all their big donations to assist all the Americans who are suffering from this economy? Sorry, it just ticks me off.

Good to see you Nell, this occasional posting from you is NOT working for me!! haha, hope that laptop cord comes soon so we can see you more!

Hope to catch up on posts later, or tomorrow at work...Im not sure whether the holiday will bring us lots of calls from folks who are home, or NO calls, because folks will think we arent open...heres hoping its MORE calls!! 1/3 of our work force chose to take the day off, but Im all for the double time and a half!!

Mom is finally feeling better and her voice has returned, so I threw a couple of homegrown steaks on the grill and even held my nose and my breath and sauteed her some mushrooms to top it with! YUK YUK YUK

Made a nice big miracle quiche with broccoli, peppers and onions and actually found some alfalfa sprouts in the store today, so now that I have them and Perricone says they are so good for us, what the HECK do I do with them!??

Wrapped a slice of turkey, a bit of cream cheese and a handful of sprouts in a nice green leaf of lettuce for a snack...it definitely had the slight taste of grass...hmmm help me out here....what do I do with alfalfa sprouts!!

Robin: Use alfalfa sprouts like lettuce - in salads, on sandwiches, etc. Even better for you are broccoli sprouts. They are 300% stronger in antioxidants than broccoli itself. I use the sprouts a lot in salads. They go especially well with avacado and/or tomato.

Thanks Lisa, I cant even believe I actually found some ALFALFA sprouts! LOL, probably no chance at all of finding the broccoli ones...I try to eat broccoli pretty much every week though. Was hoping to find a way to use the alfalfa sprouts so I didnt have to taste them! LOL, they kinda do taste like grass...I can get by the weird texture, but the taste is definitely not my favorite! I suppose cooking them in some way would just ruin their benefit. Is there a broccoli sprout supplement?

Sun is back out here and looks like we might even hit 60 degrees one day this week! WOW, weird weather this past few months...but we will definitely TAKE this warm week over the deep freeze we have been in lately!

Dennis remains doing pretty well at home, but has radiation scheduled for every day this week...we thought they were going to quit that, but apparently they want to continue...so crossing my fingers and praying it doesnt give him any bad reactions this time.

I have to coordinate and lead the February team meeting at work...any ideas for snacks besides Valentines cookies or candies?

Chloe is back in Tacoma! I slept so much better last night. I think that now that she has done the drive once, I won't so much of a wreck next time.

Robin - that is so awesome that your "crush" noticed your weight loss! And, I can just picture you cooking those mushrooms. I think that sprouts take come getting used to but I love them in my low carb wraps with some deli chicken or turkey, some fresh spinach, red bell peppers and sprouts (and I little lite mayo). I usually make three or four of these to have in the fridge at work.

I finally got the soy beans that I ordered from Amazon so I am going to try the chili this week. Which will be a perfect week for it since we are supposed to have a lot of rain.

Nell - your kitty is so cute! I can't wait until you get back on the computer.

Jocelyn - we need to plan a field trip to your house. I could really go for a nice get-a-way to Hawaii and hanging out there with you ladies would be just perfect!

Carol - I was worried about the Ashland part too. I kept asking her if she knew how to put her car in 4-wheel drive (she has a 1999 jeep cherokee) and kept telling me that she would figure it out if she needed it! I, for one, think you should figure it before you are somewhere on the road alone in the snow but..... How's my buddy Lobster - I haven't heard any tales lately?

Lisa - if you show that property today, be careful out there driving.

Kathy - I agree, you need to resign yourself to the couch for awhile. If you can sleep there, then why not?

xoxoxox

Kate: I forgot to tell you that the Oregon transportation website has cameras at many locations on I-5. You can look in real time and see if the road is plowed, etc. I found it very comforting last Christmas when the snow was so heavy and J-P was inching his way home. We try to encourage him to make it over Mt. Shasta (the pass by Ashland) before dark each way.
