Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Laura: Sorry about your nose! You could try a humidifier? Or just breathe over a steaming bowl of water with a towel over your head.

Don't you love the cute things kids say that you'll never forget? Baby soup! How funny!

Good Morning All!

Nell - Good for you, back in school. Please try to post when you can, we miss our information lady!

Lisa - 2 months :sad2: You will need to be very careful with that knee. It sounds like something that could easily be re-injured in the future

I'm struggling a little keeping legal on step1  It's not as easy as I remember prior to the holidays. I think some of it has to do with the dark, dreary, wet winter days. I'm fine during the day but find myself wanting to overeat in the evening. So far it's legal foods but my mind is wanting to share Lisa's popcorn and icecream while I'm hunkered down under my fake fur throw watching TV or reading. I am NOT going back to the bad old days. Spring is coming :)

Strangest thing happened to me yesterday, for the first time in 44 years I had a nose bleed  I was like What the french toast! :surfweb:I have read where it can be a vitamin K deficiency, so I ate a bunch of spinach yesterday. Turns out it could be from all the cold weather we have been having down here and running the heat that it might have dried up my sinuses. eeeewwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too much aspirin can cause nose bleeds too because it thins the blood too much. My sis started getting nose bleeds by taking baby aspirin every day :confused3

Stay strong, Barb! Some days I did over snack on the nuts, but at least they are legal. I especially don't know what I'd do without Cocoa Emerald almonds. You'll be back to Step 2 before you know it. Thank goodness I got over that popcorn and ice cream craving! I ate frozen grapes instead. Greek yogurt has been a really nice treat, too.

Nell: We are so proud of you going back to school! Don't you find you appreciate it so much more than the young kids who might not have a clue yet how grateful they should be for their education? Post when you can; we miss you and love you!:grouphug:

Hello gang,

Sorry for being MIA, but I have been reading all of your posts. I'm so sorry to hear of the aches, pains and accidents that you all have experienced. So glad that you're on the mend. I'm especially glad to hear two more people have accepted Christ into their life. That's wonderful, Robin. I'm so glad that you weren't afraid to share this gift with Dennis and Rick. I'm doing great on the second round of Step 1. I decided to just do the whole month of Jan and will start Step 2 in Feb. I haven't weighed, but will probably do so tomorrow just to see where I am. Nell congrats on going back to school. It can be difficult at times, but it's well worth it. Well you all be blessed and I'll be talking to you later.

Sandra

Laura, in winter months, Carrie has horrible nose bleeds. Our doctor said to put vaseline up your nostrils. This will help retain moisture. It is the dryness that is making them bleed. Just a suggestion. Helps all of us.

Good evening everyone. Not much going on here today. Just resting some this evening.
Sandra, good to see you this evening. Glad you could check in and say hi. Jan. will be over before you know it!!
I'll check in later everyone. Just going to check emails and chill a bit this evening.
Later everyone :grouphug:

My sister lives very close to the epicenter of the earthquake. She was in the mall (at Ross in Eureka, Kate!) at the time. All of the glass came crashing down and she was walking around with a stool over her head trying to figure out how to avoid falling shelves. Part of the ceiling of the mall came down, but there were no major injuries. Her friend lost a lot of glassware and furniture. Olivia was fine in her apartment on the top floor of an old Victorian home, thank God. It was a doozy, but everyone survived pretty well. There were 25,000 out of power.

Lisa - I am trying to get caught up on everything that I missed lately and I came upon this post. The Ross store in Eureka is in Brad's district and he knows the manager there pretty well. Brad's boss has spent the last few days at the Eureka store because there was so much damage. It sounds like a really scary experience.

Back to reading and catching up!

Okay. Wow. I am caught up. Not sure why I have been MIA? Probably because I can't seem to really, really get back on Step 1? I am not doing horribly but certainly not following the plan to a Tee! I had a wonderful few days with my girls in Tahoe earlier this week. We left on Sunday and came back on Tuesday - we stayed in a condo. We played scrabble, watched movies, skied (I ski - the girls are on snowboards). Chloe is packing as I am writing this. It has been so wonderful having her home for these past few weeks (almost five weeks - yikes). She decided that she wants to drive her car back to school and of course, I am worried to death. She is leaving in the morning and will drive to Bend OR where she will stay with a friend from school. That part of the drive is about eight hours. She and the friend will drive from Bend to Tacoma on Sunday - another five or so hours. I would love some "safe driving" prayers for Chloe this weekend.

Lisa - I was so sorry to read about your accident. That was so unfortunate and must have been so scary for both you and Tom.

Nell - tell us some more about school.

Carol, Kathy, Jocelyn, Barb, Robin, Tom, Laura, Melanie, Sandra - I have missed you! I hope I didn't miss anyone!

Hi Kate! Good to see you!! I think I'm ok to say we all missed you! I am like you, step 1 is harder to get into the swing of. I haven't really been "off" step 1 since starting in Sept, but since the holidays, I'm finding it very hard to stay on it. I am finding that when I'm stressed or really tired, those dang cravings come back with a vengeance. I have been doing pretty good at staying on it. Yesterday was a hard one though. I am hoping once the weather breaks for spring, I'll be doing better.
Sorry the girls had to head back. I know how hard that is. I just thank God Tris lives close by. I will say a prayer for Chloe and her friend to have a safe trip.

Good morning everyone. It is a bit cloudy out this morning, with RAIN headed our way! It is a nice morning out though. It is about 35* out and it is to get up to around 45*. I do believe I am going to take Tyson for a walk before the rain gets here. I think being outside will do my soul a bit of good today.
I was thinking yesterday about how about this time of year, I am usually pretty depressed, and ready to get some medication. This year, I don't feel it yet. I still get my down days, but nothing like it used to be. I think it's because of this WOE and the extra vitamin D. I am taking about 4,000-6,000 iu of it a day. I think between the two of them, I am feeling about 85* better. I do find on my down days, it's not quite as "manic" as usual. My up moods are more and more common now. It is just amazing to me. It's almost like a whole new word is opening up for me. I love to watch everyone transform. Not to be rude or mean, but Nell, you are the one who I have seen transform right before our eyes. It is so amazing, and I am so proud of you for what you have done and what you are doing.
Ok, guess I'm done rambling for now LOL. Have a great day everyone. I am going to print off our recipes for my mom and get them to her this weekend. I am also going to take Bev's advice and make a list of legal step 1 foods for her. If I can remember all them LOL. I have to remember that nacho chips are NOT legal (thank you Lisa LOL)
Ok, going to :surfweb: for a couple more minutes. See you all later!!

Good Morning...I am sitting at my desk contemplating another 13 hour day...OMG, I am SOOOO Tired!! LOL, the price we pay to make a buck some days!

Kate - Good to see you back...glad you had a good trip with the girls! Seems everyone is on a sort of modified version of step 1 these days, but we are committed to a GREAT MM Year!!

Hope everyone is well, Kathy and Lisa have improving knees, Nell is studying hard, Barb is safe in her office, Carol's counseling is going well, Laura is drinking her water, Gena's Dad is content, Jocelyns computer is working right, Cindys exercise program is going well, Diane is enjoying the gym, etc etc!!!

Tom - sounds like you and Rebecca are buying a house?! Congrats on that!!

I am so glad that it is finally morning. I couldn't fall asleep last night until almost 1:00 a.m. and then I kept waking up. I kept dreaming about Chloe on her drive today. I wish she didn't have to do this first long stretch by herself. We went to Whole Foods last night and she bought all kinds of good stuff to eat - pita bread, humus, guacamole, fruit, trail mix.

Robin - I am sorry that you have such a long day ahead of you.

Kathy - thanks for reminding me that I am out of Vit D. I gave mine to Chloe when she was home at Thanksgiving and never replaced it....

Nice to see you back,Kate. Sorry you have to ship Chloe off today :sad2: :sad2: My oldest son went to school up in Portland, Oregon for 2 yrs and I too, had a hard time watching him drive off knowing that he might hit snow or ice. We'll all keep our fingers crossed and our prayers going until she's safe at school. I'm struggling with step 1 also. My meals continue to stay on plan, but some of my snacks are more legal for step 2. For me, the weight is still coming off so I'm not too concerned. I know that more would come off quicker if I stayed strictly on plan, but I seem to be doing okay this way. I find that I have truly changed my way of eating...even the cheats are minuscule compared to the carbs I ate before this WOE. Give yourself credit for what you are eating on plan and stay in touch...we miss you! :chat:

I'm off to see if I can find a store that will either donate a case of toothpaste or sell it at a reduced price. At church tonight, we are putting together Hygiene Kits for disaster relief areas like Haiti. There will be face towels, soap, toothbrushes, a comb, and toothpaste in each gallon size baggie. These are shipped to one of our church storehouses around the US or in other parts of the world and will be ready if a disaster strikes. I wish there were more I could do for all those poor people that are suffering in Haiti and places like that. It's hard to watch my brothers and sisters suffering so and be limited in the ways I can ease their burdens and mourn their great losses with them. I do believe though, that these things happen for a reason and that good will come from their trials. I think that conditions in Haiti will improve from now on and this is in some ways a good thing that has happened. Not the loss of lives, but world attention and the demands for positive change. I am so grateful for the great blessing it is to live in This land of freedom, where my needs are met and I have the liberties to pursue what makes me happy. And, as Forrest Gump would say, "that's all I have to say about that".

Hoping you all have a wonderful MM weekend,

Carol

Wow! Small world, huh? My sister is such a Ross fan she joked to Mom and Dad that it would be funny for her to perish there. Bad joke, but true all the same. It's great to see your cute face!

Kate: I just read that Chloe is taking off on her road trip today. I'll be saying prayers for her safe travel all weekend. Olivia drove herself down here for Christmas for the first time and my parents were beside themselves with worry, but she was fine. Dad then spent the whole week going over every aspect of her car.:rotfl: I like J-P to text me when he stops for gas, etc. Just the name of the city as he passes through is a big comfort. I had to gulp this last time when he arrived he texted "Home". I'm glad he feels at home in Portland.

Did Chloe sent in her letter to the Admin about her cafeteria plan? I'm anxious to hear if she wins her point.

Sounds like you really took full advantage of the time you all had together to make some wonderful memories. I hope Brad isn't working too hard in the New Year. I found my favorite career skirt in Ross again 2 sizes smaller so I bought it for inspiration! It was only $14.99.:dance3:

Just a word of inspiration of how MM is working...I lost 2 - 4 lbs. over the holidays and my favorite Spring skirt from 4 years ago fits again. Not bragging, just want to encourage those that are having trouble sticking to it that it's soooo worth it! I've never, ever weighed less in January than in November! Even without being able to exercise because of my hurts, I'm still losing.
