Anyone have any experience with George Foreman Grills?
Good?....... Bad?.......?

I saw one at the market tonight, it's the larger indoor/outdoor model. The starting price was $99.99...marked down to $59.99 and with my supermarket member card another $30.00 off...yes, bringing the price down to $29.99!

I have a small 3 season porch that I thought it would be nice to use during the colder months out there, it also can be brought inside.
Being an electric grill......does it really give you that "grill" taste?
I know it's suppose to be the "healthier" way to grill, but does it really work?

Thanks in advance for any info you might have....the sale ends supposedly on Sat. night....so I wanted to ask her, before I made a desicion.....you all are usually soooo knowledgeable and helpful!

I had a smaller one, it could do six burgers at once. My husband didn't like it, I did. No I don't think it gave a grill taste.
My aunt and uncle love theirs and use it a lot, they have the huge one that you can buy legs to sit it on.

one of my roommates this past school year had one. It was kinda useful, although it always seemed to overcook stuff. It worked pretty quickly though, even on frozen patties ... and it was fairly easy to clean. I don't know if it's just that I overcooked stuff, but most of the meat I cooked ended up fairly flavorless.

I dont think food tastes that great from one. I made a grilled cheese from it one night. I closed my eyes I thought I was eating a shoe.

30 bucks down from 100 that is a pretty good deal.

For that price, I would get it! We can barbeque here year-round, but I still use the Foreman in the Winter. I'll use it this time of year only if the outdoor grill is out of propane. We really like it for burgers. I also split the Aidells sausages and grill those.

I have a small one made for in the kitchen use, and because it is tilted, all the juices from the meats run into the little trays it has, most of the time, the meat tasted kind of dry, definitely not a grilled taste at all, sorry, but on the good side, it does cook quick and indoor.

Thanks...just what I thought..a few good responses, a few bad!

Well, for 30 bucks I don't think I can go too wrong, especially if it's just for me in during the long cold winter months!

I use it for hot dogs. Yes, the grilling outside flavor is gone but it's a lot better than boiling them in water. My mom uses it to make portobello mushroom sandwiches.

I'm in the minority here. I like mine. I don't have a problem with it overcooking stuff because I only cook it as long as the recipe book says. I also like using rubs and marinades on the meat.
As for cleaning it, I find putting a damp paper towel in it and closing it and letting it sit while I eat makes cleaning it a lot easier.

we have 2, an inside one and an outside one you use propane with. I love them, the only bad thing about the outside one is you do lose that grilled taste, but it is very easy to use so its a trade off. You just take the grill thing off and wash off in the sink when you are done.

Yes this one has legs/pedestal under it, but the grill itself can come off and be used indoors also! Here's a picture of the one I'm looking at:

My sons love to use ours for hamburgers, esp in the winter when they can't grill outside. I usually get stuck cleaning the thing!!:p

My neighbor has one and she loves it! She's a single woman, and so she doesn't need to cook big meals, so it's just the right size for her needs.

DH loves ours. He can use it for cooking frozen hamburger patties for lunch. I like my hot dogs cooked on the grill. DH makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches on ours. Usually if I make them in the frying pan they turn out greasy.

I like ours especially in the winter months. It doesn't give the same flavor as grilling outdoors. Cleanup is easy if when you turn it off, you line it with wet paper towels. Keeps the gunk from drying on.

Thats the one we have for outside use!

Well.....I went back to the store this morning, got the grill & put it together myself!..(very easy!). I'll cook on it tonight and see how it tastes!
I figure for 30 bucks if I use a few times a month it will pay for itself! Now...should we have steak kabobs or chicken tonight?? LOL
Thanks for all the nays and yeahs.....anyone have any recipes they want to share??

We bought the same model as the one you did. We've used it a couple of times and like it a lot.

Helpful hint....be sure and let it warm up for the 10 minutes or whatever time it tells you to. The first time we only let it warm a few minutes and it sort of just steamed everything. In order to get those nice grill marks and have the meat brown, it really needs to be sizzling hot when you put the food on it.

I have the small indoor kitchen one. I use it almost every day, and love it. I don't know what I'd do without it.

I know some people have a problem with cleaning them (the smaller ones) - this is my tip for that: Wet down (liberally) some paper towels and place them in the grill when you've finished cooking (but after unplugging it). The heat from the grill and the moisture from the towels will combine to totally soften anything that's stuck on there, making cleaning much, much easier. Most times I just have to wipe it down when cool and it's clean. If I'm cooking something like a sauce (like teriyaki) then it takes a bit more work.

I don't know if that would work with the big one though.
