In your opinion, do I need to purchase the Genie during our end of August trip. And if not, do we need it for the weekend if not the rest of the week? TIA!
Maybe the weekend. Not sure about the week. But I do understand why you ask. The availability and discounts at the end of August at the resorts are awesome!!! Wish I could handle that heat.
We bought it every day and paid for ILLs 'mostly' to minimize our time in lines in the heat. We've gone a few times at this time of year and last year seemed especially hot. The crowds were definitely not light but not that crazy either - we mostly just wanted to get our faves done as fast as possible before the heat of the afternoon made it unbearable.
It is worth it! We get to the park 30 min before it opens and stay until lunch (noon/1 pm). Then I start stacking for the evening. I’m averaging about $2.50-3.00 per ride.
We don’t have dining reservations or anything that would cause time conflicts.
I was there the last week in August last year and the longest wait I had the entire week was 25 min. Other than that, most rides were walk ons or 5 or 10 min. wait. My son and his family were there the week after Labor Day and said it was very busy. I never buy Genie+ but, I go often (once or twice a year) so if I don't ride something it's not the end of the world and we have always just waited in lines. We rarely even used FP or FP+ when they were offered. It just depends on how long you will be there, if you have park hoppers, the make up of your party - younger kids tend to not tolerate lines as well as older ones and what your goals are. Do you want to ride as many rides as you can or do you just want to ride certain rides and just enjoy the place?
We are Genie+ fans and would buy it regardless what time of year it is. I don’t have the patience to stand in line anymore so whatever I have to do to avoid that - Genie+ or ILL, we’ll do it - LOL!

We are going at the same time and for us it will be a wait and see. I will monitor things the week before we go to get a better idea. It really will depend on crowd size and wait times. Since 2022 didn't really have a lower guest time we can't really use it's data to determine what might help in 2023.
I'm budgeting to purchase it a few days (MK and DHS) but am hoping not to need it.
I haven't bothered with it for Epcot or AK ever. Arriving Aug 30, will definitely buy it for my HS day (Sunday of Labor Day weekend) to stack LL for the evening, was considering it for one MK day (Aug 30), but with the new pricing probably not.
