General Star Wars Discussion

Right! I mean, what do people want?

"Galaxy's Edge should have been based on the Original Trilogy with all the characters that I love!"
Disney brings in Luke Skywalker.
"He doesn't look a thing like Luke!"

There is no winning here.
Yeah I don’t need the OT human characters at all, wouldn’t complain if they brought C-3PO, R2, Vader around to Galaxy’s Edge more.

Bring me a Death Star run with MFSR, or just more adventures that tie across the saga.

Why isn’t there the same issue with Rey though? I mean she has a face too right?

Or are you suggesting no one cares about Rey, so her face doesn’t matter?

It’s really not debatable at this point, Disney rolled the dice focusing solely on the ST stuff…….and it was a mistake. I understand why they made the decision they did, I mean they had no way of knowing that Rian Johnson was going to split the fandom in half with the most divisive SW movie ever in TLJ. It was just a mistake, own it and be better moving forward. Disney seems to be doing this imho.

I've seen a Rey that looked a LOT like her, and I've seen some that only sort-of did. You've got to give it a little leeway. My point is that fan expectations can never be met, no matter what they do. They get grief no matter what! You don't get fans saying, "I'm excited to meet Luke Skywalekr at Disneyland!" but rather you get "He doesn't look like Luke." So, did fans EVER even want Luke at GE? You say, "Yes, of course they did," but they'd only complain about whatever they were given.

Rey has generally been cast pretty well. from what I have personally seen, maybe it also helps she is usually up high so you dont get too close

I Like the characters that are more alien or masked myself. But to be fair I have said this before and not just about Star Wars, the wigs for the male character actors look kinda dumb, the only one I have ever seen that looks good or close to the real thing is Captain Jack....

It's certainly easier to match animated characters since there is more wiggle-room. Hoestly, though, what did people expect? They aren't going to be able to cast exact Mark Hamill look-alikes. It is what it is.

I don't know how you would make it work with the queue/pre-show, but a MFSR mission where you are providing cover for the Death Star trench run would be beyond awesome. Again, I have no idea how you would make it work with the queue/pre-show, but having different missions in different eras could be fun.

I am sorry that I annoyed you with my comment that it did not look like Luke... but to be fair BrianL I have said before the character actor showed up that I personally do not want Luke Leia or Han either as recasts or face characters. it is hard to meet expectations and a black robe is not enough

It's not really your comment - it's more the immediate and widespread clapback that you see online whenever they do...well, anything! I just wanna enjoy Star Wars, but people seem determined to at least try to prevent that.

It’s kind of the nature of these forums though, this week Disney shared dates for new shows, but complaints that the parade date wasn’t announced.

Disney announces things for an attraction, but it’s either what’s getting taken away, or what’s not included with said attraction that gets the attention.

Disney announces a character meet and greet, well that’s not the exact look I had in mind for that (Luke, live action Ariel, Elsa, etc.)

I think it's cool Luke is meeting, but the hair is WAY too dark. I know it's Mando Luke, but ROTJ Luke in that black outfit is my all time favorite Luke.
I don't expect face characters to look just like the actual. For Star Wars weekends, (SOOOO miss them) you could meet Luke, Leia, Anakin, Mace, and maybe a few others w face paint like Maul, Ahsoka, Kit Fisto, etc. Sometimes they looked like them, sometimes not, didn't matter to us.
Not a SW character, but the funniest one was a Star Lord we met several years ago. I mean looked nothing like him, except the outfit. We still laugh about it, but it was still a great meet/greet. Which is all that these are.....meet and greets in a Disney theme park. It's just fun!

The CM has been cast well when I've seen Rey (a couple of times, years apart). But as I've said previously, I believe there's a huge difference in DL visitor acceptance of later characters vs. Luke, Leia, and Han. Rey and Kylo and Finn are well known, but the first three are iconic, and fans are going to be much more strict in their expectations.

Indeed, I just found some videos from Luke's appearance at Disneyland yesterday, and sure enough, the comments are very mixed. It's a no-win situation for Disney to bring the OT face characters into the parks.

At first I thought you meant DL had Finn walking around and I was like, no fair! We should totally have Finn, Poe, Rose, and BB-8 in Galaxy's Edge. I promise I won't complain that they don't look like the actors. 😂

Hah, sorry for the confusion. I was just trying to name some well known recent characters. Now that you mention it, though, it's odd they haven't had Finn, considering that they've had other characters who aren't as prominent as he is. Although maybe Disney has been pushing characters who are in their TV series.

That's my impression, is that recently they have been rotating through characters from the various Disney+ series--like, trying to promote their latest projects. I have to say, even though Mando breaks the timeline, he seems like a fun character to have in the park--asking parents for parenting advice, etc. 😂

But it does seem odd to me that Finn hasn't been there from the start--just a little lonely to have Rey there without her friends!
