General Question about Housekeeping Expectations

Clean freak I am not, and I do not hold the Hotels to a diffrent standard:confused3 . I just want the basics, rugs vacumed, bathroom pretty clean etc. But If I have one some what requirment its the Bed, I want the bed(although i do not lol) made, I just love how Hotels make there beds:rotfl2: I can not make them that good LOL. But really as long as your not seeing garbage on the floors and a Inch of dust down I am fine. Butr thats me:wizard:

I expect my room to be very clean when I arrive-clean bedding, fresh towels, cleaned & empty fridge, vacuumed floor, surfaces, toilet, sink wiped & disinfected. Mostly because I have no idea who stayed in the room before me.

Once I'm there, I don't need much on a day to day basis. Definately don't need my bedding changed everyday & I'm ok with reusing our towels for 2 days or so. I do appreciate my bed being made, floor vacuumed, & a simple wipe down of surfaces & such. We pick up anything we left on the floor & try to move our stuff out of the way every morning to make it easier for the housekeeper to do his/her job.

We have no children & are generally clean people. We are certainly not neat freaks at home, but like another poster said it's different when you are sharing a room with strangers who were there before you. Also, housekeeping is an amenity that is built into the price of the resort stay so I do expect the minimum that I mentioned above.

We have always been more than pleased with the housekeepers we've had in any resort we have stayed in. At WDW especially, they definately go above & beyond our expectations! :)

Having just got back from GF, my expectations of Disney housekeeping has gone down tremendously. As I posted at another thread, the turndown service meant just pulling down the sheets and putting some chocolates on the bed - not touching any dirty glasses or replacing them. One day we came back in the evening to see for the 2nd time, turndown service done without any glasses replaced. Also, they had kept two glasses with Coke with them right outside our door, and our frisky 6 yr old knocked against it while jumping around. I immediately called Housekeeping and told them about it, and how it will stain the carpet if not cleaned up. Next day morning the glasses were still there, with the towel I had placed there to soak up the stain still there - and of course, the carpet stained!!!

Very indifferent housekeeping. We would put in a tip for housekeeping every day and there would be a towel animal waiting for the kids. The day we forgot, there was no towel animal. The next day, we put the tip there and saw the towel animal's appearance again...

I think most people have a problem because hotel room dirt is "other people's dirt" and, hence, other people's germs. I don't clean my bathroom everyday. But when I check into a hotel I expect to find a spotless bathroom. I want the glasses to be wrapped (or brand new plactic ones) so I can be sure they haven't been used be someone else previously. I don't care if they change the sheets every night of my visit, but I expect clean sheets on all the beds when I arrive. Even if it looks like the previous guest didn't used all of the beds, they should be changed. You never know if someone climbed into a bed and then remade it later.

My point is that I don't do certain things in my house all the time either. But with so many people using hotel rooms, I do expect to find them very, very clean when I first arrive.

I feel the exact same way as mentioned above.

After all of the horror stories I have read, I don't expect anything.

I am a CSI style traveller. Complete with black light... In fact its already packed and ready to go to SSR on Saturday!

I take my own sheets, towels etc. We are staying in DVC so I won't have daily housekeeping but that doesn't bother us. We like that better because it means fewer people in and out of our room. We'll miss the towel animals though!

I like that we will have a washer/dryer because my sheets/towels will be fresh as often as I like since I can do them myself.

I am just a germaphobe, so when I get in, I inspect and clean the hotel room myself anyway... I go thru tons of lysol and clorox anywhere spray!

I'm not picky at all. Of course when I GET to the resort I want a clean room since there were strangers staying the room before us, but honestly while I'm staying there all I would really need is the trash cans emptied out and a few clean towels. I DO NO want my bed made and with clean sheets put on everyday. After I sleep in it for a night I have made the my own and it smells like me, so I want it to stay that way so I'm used to it. I don't want it smelling like bleach or new detergent. I left a note on the bed a few days to not make it up. One day they did make it up (too lazy to leave the note).

You know, I never thought of myself as fussy when it came to this stuff. I mostly expected new towels, the bathroom freshened up a bit, the beds made, etc.... I straighten up after our family and don't expect mousekeepers to do that sort of thing.

BUT... I have been wondering if I'll be disappointed if our room isn't spit spot this time since we're staying at BC and we're paying a LOT of money per night. Should I expect more when you pay that much more per night? hmm! Maybe I shouldn't expect because then I'm just setting myself up for failure?

I think I'll go with the flow, but I won't hesitate to complain if something is obviously wrong & not being done to our liking?

Hmm!

I am really not too picky but you might have seen my other post about housekeeping putting all the wet, dirty towels and wash cloths (that had been on the floor) in my suitcase on top of my clean clothes at POR!!
I really felt that the rooms this year were not very clean over all. Dirt and cob webs in the corners. I really don't expect a lot but if I were paying $159 per night at a chain hotel I would expect much better. We did tip every day but the only difference it seemed to make in service is that we were occasionally left a towel animal. I would have preferred a clean room and no wet, dirty towels in my suitcase.

We often leave the Do Not Disturb sign in for days. We reuse towels at home and don't make much trash. I just unmake the bed the minute I walk in anyway. No towel animals neccessary. We are able to tidy up after ourselves sufficiently. I would rather not have anyone else in my room.

My only request that I have not seen mentioned is that if housekeeping is aware that someone has been sick in the room :scared: that they clorox it well (doorknobs, remote..) before the next set of guests arrive.

I do expect the bed to be made everyday, and I do expect the bathroom counter to be wiped down every day, and if there is obviously dirt on the carpet, I would expect it to be vacuumed. If not, every few days would be fine. I absolutely want clean towels every day. No, I do not wash mine daily at home, but we all have our own towel racks. In a hotel room, my kids will put their used towels down on the bedspread just because they don't have a place to hang it (yuck). And, if you shower in the morning before you leave for the day, and you shower again in the evening after a full day at the parks, or after swimming, most likely, the towels you used in the morning will not be dry. I don't want to reuse towels that are still wet. I do not expect sheets to be washed daily, but every 3-4 days would be nice. I feel that if housekeeping is not done on a daily basis, then your room rate should be reduced. If I don't clean my moldings or ceiling corners at least every couple of weeks, cobwebs will develop. Therefore, a hotel room should be cleaning those on a regular basis. You're paying a lot of money for the room. It should be clean.

I am a pretty neat person and I pick up after my family each day before we leave for the parks. I do expect a clean toilet, towels folded, beds made, trash taken out, supplies replinished, no dust or cobwebs, and no mold in the shower or tub.
We just got back from OKW and there was urine caked around the outside of the toilet. It was pretty nasty. Also, dead flies everywhere, mold in the shower, and the whole villa felt like it had not been really deeply cleaned in a loooong time. They should dust the blinds and scrub the mold and the toilets more frequently.
However, we were magically upgraded to OKW (2BV) and I paid the rate for POR so, I blew it off. The amazing amount of space and the W/D, jacuzzi tub, and view of the golf course made me able to overlook the cleaning issues. I would never been okay paying rack rate for that room. It was not worth the $600/ night rate.

I would actually prefer housekeeping not come into my room at all during my stay. I'm not that messy a person, and if they just drop by in the morning and exchange my wet towels for clean, I can wipe the sink, make my own bed, and keep things relatively clean until I leave. But I DO expect the room to be fresh and clean when I first arrive. Spotless, not necessary (they are hotel rooms, after all), but cleaned, everything needed in place, and free of obvious signs of the previous occupants.

I agree 100% with both of you. I keep a very clean house and expect a clean hotel room when we check in. I don't expect them to pick up after us as we keep all our stuff organized. I do think clean towels daily and sheets at least every 3 days (same at home) should be expected. Also when we stayed at poly there was tons of dust, filthy carpeting, bathroom was not cleaned well and the refrigerator was just stciky and gross. There definateyl shouldn't be mold or mildew in the bathrooms :scared: . Vacuuming should be also be done before check in and as necessary IMO. Also I can't imagine not making my beds daily but that's just me :goodvibes .

at home i'm an uber clean freak - and yes, i do pack the clorox wipes and lysol spray....

thank goodness i'm terribly nearsighted - because if i really started looking things over in our disney room, we'd probably never return!;)

we try to keep the bar low for mousekeeping expectations - DH teases i clean up for the maid - and we don't need any towel origami, either!

The housekeepers are, IMO, spending way too much time making towel animals in a bid to get tips.

I don't really expect a whole lot from housekeeping...just clean towels (only if we need them, certainly not every day), empty trash if it needs to be emptied, vacuum only if I accidentally dropped a muffin, for example, that would create a bunch of crumbs that can't really all be picked up by hand, and that's about it. I don't really even care if they make the bed or not, I don't make my bed at home every day, so that doesn't bother me. Some dust doesn't bother me, unless it's an inch thick, or even a small spider or two is no big deal to me.

Two things that stick in my mind about WDW resort housekeeping...

For this kind of $$$, this is the kind of cleaning we get?

No matter where I stay, it is "other people's dirt, not mine" when I arrive in a hotel room and I don't want to see any of it!

WDW is sorely lacking in housekeeping, when you consider how much you pay for a deluxe resort room.

Unless the room was just refurbished, all Disney deluxe resort we've stayed at have had:
1. Black mildew in the shower tile grout (hello, bleach-water spray bottle)
2. Dust bunnies on the baseboards, around furniture, and in corners (once a week, move furniture to vaccuum. This isn't difficult, once a week would do the job.)
3. Windows are streaked and always dirty...come on!
4. Brown water stains on ceiling tile, these tiles are very easy to replace.
5. Grimey/sticky bathroom floor tile. (Toothpaste, toilet paper tidbits, etc.)

It's SO bad, that we've started to pick our resort based on which one just finished refurbishment. We look forward to our BWI stay this October.

I agree absolutely.

For what Disney charges for it's rooms...it BETTER be clean!

I travel for work and have the same expectations for the Holiday Inn....for far less $$$$ than Disney.

Disney's problem....they set the bar. Now they will not live up to it.

I could never work for a hotel becaue of people who have unrealistically high expecations. If you are staying at a deluxe, sure, I could see asking for for the moon and stars to be dusted and sanitized everyday. But everywhere else? Come on, you get what you pay for. Even the mods, think about it, you are paying $150 a night? For $150 a night, I expect a clean room but I am not going to give it the white glove treatment to look for dust. I think people who even some of the things on this thread are just looking for a handout. Maybe I am just cynical from my years in restaurant management (you should see the stunts people pull looking for a handout in a restaurant!) I don't know. I think because of the unrealistically high expectations, people who DO have a legitimate complaint are often overlooked.
