General Question about Housekeeping Expectations

I could never work for a hotel becaue of people who have unrealistically high expecations. If you are staying at a deluxe, sure, I could see asking for for the moon and stars to be dusted and sanitized everyday. But everywhere else? Come on, you get what you pay for. Even the mods, think about it, you are paying $150 a night? For $150 a night, I expect a clean room but I am not going to give it the white glove treatment to look for dust. I think people who even some of the things on this thread are just looking for a handout. Maybe I am just cynical from my years in restaurant management (you should see the stunts people pull looking for a handout in a restaurant!) I don't know. I think because of the unrealistically high expectations, people who DO have a legitimate complaint are often overlooked.

None of these expectations are unrealistic and I don't think anyone is looking for a handout. This thread started by Anonomom stating that when she checked in POR she noticed dirty baseboards, a dirty bedrail, and a dead spider. If something is that noticeable to us upon entering our room, then it's something that needs to be addressed. Granted, it's probably not the housekeeper's fault due to lack of time and staff, but it is definitely upper management's fault! If dirt and crud accumulate during our stay, then it's ours. But when it's there upon arrival, I can guarantee that 99.9% of us will either complain or be freaked out about it. Nobody is asking for the moon and stars everyday, just the beds, baseboards, and spiders upon check-in.
