Hi all. New poster here, although I've been lurking for six months (thanks Dis for the heads-up on the 40% off code that expired 3/15 - WL bound Thanksgiving week).

Guess I'm a WDW geek, but I can't believe how great the place it - especially when staying on site. We stayed at CR last November and the experience was just so cool.

I post on a parenting site and was reading the blog entry a woman was righting about her recent trip to WDW. She started out by saying that she was ready to hate it, the commercialism of it, the cheeseiness, and the silliness of it. She was going for her kids but thought it was something to be endured. After she got back she said that she was swept off her feet, thought it was wonderful and magical, even cried at some of the sentimental stuff. In short she loved it. I think that sums up my feeling about it (and I'm posting here because I think the on-site resorts add so much to the experience) - its just such a magical escape.

Anyways, you may see me post more often. Stayed on site for first time last November at CR, have ressies and hope to go back and stay at WL this November.

I just wanted to introduce myself.

Welcome to the DIS, andys! I feel the same way about WDW. We are complete junkies, and are going through major withdrawl, as it will have been 15 months since our last trip. We are so spoiled! :)

Welcome 'andys'!!
My 'rents took me to WDW when I was 13. I never planned on going back. That is until my girlfriend (now fiance) convinced me to go with her in '05. I was expecting to just 'grin and bear it' the whole time but I couldn't get enough of it! We went back in '06 and will be there in Sept '07. We're even getting married there in '08. I plan on going every year for the rest of my life.
Now to justify this being on the Resorts Board before Knox locks the thread, my stay at the Polynesian helped make the experience that much more magical.

:)

Our family started going way back in '72 or '73. Every year, we'd stay in Orlando for a day, then drive to Ft. Lauderdale for a week. We did it less frequently as we got older, and finally stopped shortly after Epcot opened. My parents went once more with just my younger siblings after MGM and Universal opened.

I didn't go for 15 years or so. I forgot.

In 1999, DH had a short business trip to Orlando. I thought heck, I'll go for two days (MK, and MGM). DH had no clue what the trip would unleash!

DSister had been going with her kids once a year, so the following spring, we joined her for a five day stay. We stayed at a budget place offsite, while she stayed at the BWK. We were so jealous.

In 2002,we brought along my other DS, a strange trip due to 9/11...she was in NYC when it happened, so the trip really helped.

After that, the whole family has been going, more or less, every year.

The memories of our early trips are part of the draw, but none of us has really continued the tradition of going to southern FL. Sometimes my folks still go in the winter, and sometimes one of my siblings will come along, but Disney is the annual MUST. It's interesting to see how our family has changed over the years in relation to trips to WDW; it's sort of like looking at old family Christmas photos.

The Ft. Lauderdale of my childhood is gone. A few years ago, they completely tore down our favorite hotel. All of the restuarants we used to eat at are gone. WDW has expanded, but the heart of it- MK, has largely stayed the same. It's one of the few things from our childhood that has.

Welcome from one newbie to another. (to the boards at least).

You are not alone. My first trip to DW was back when I was 13, mom took me. I have been an addict ever since 1 :lmao:

Seriously; After a nearly 13 year hiatus due to a number of things, including the birth of our first child, my wife and I took our first trip back two weeks ago. The magic is still there, worse than ever, and we have already planned a 2nd tro for this August. I also made a promise to myself that we would visit at LEAST once a year, from now until, well, until we just can't anymore! :goodvibes

Anywho, again, welcome. These boards are a GREAT place to feed the addiction, and of course, obtain some of the best information out there!
