Gel Manicure

I got my first gel manicure before Christmas . I loved it. It lasted for 2-21/2 weeks.I thought I will get these gel manicures all the time. When I wanted to remove the polish I was very surprised when I had to go the nail salon and have it removed. I had no idea. Since the polish was removed, my nails have been paper thin catching on everything. I guess my nails will have to grow out completely before This will stop. I doubt I will get another gm. So sad.

Did you get a Shellac or Gelish manicure which is a hybrid polish or did you get a gel/UV manicure where they have to sand down your nails? With a shellac or gelish manicure it is basically like a regular manicure with special polish that cures under a UV light. There is no sanding, drilling etc. You do not need to go to a salon to remove a shellac manicure. Simply soak a cotton pad in acetone and put it on your nail. Wrap the fingertip in tin foil and let it sit for about 10 mins. After 10 mins unwrap and the polish will pretty much pop off your nail. You can use an orange stick to remove any remaining bits of polish. The gel polish cannot make your nails thin as it is a polish. The acetone remover can tend to be drying on your nails, but if you use a little cuticle oil on them you will be fine.
