GCV Models Closing on 9/30

I am completely bummed! DH and I were just talking tonight about how we were excited to see the GCV model in December when we were at DLR. It certainly sounds like there probably won't be anything to look at when we're down there. :(

Same here. They weren't open when I went in May and now will be closed when I go in January. :(

UPDATE: Now word is that the closure is only temporary. :headache:

The models WILL reopen, although there is no specific timeline as to when that will happen.

LOL!
Just my luck. I'll be there in 2 days mainly to check out the model and they're closing it down... :rotfl:

Same here, this is the primary reason we scheduled this trip so soon (after being there over Labor Day when they were open and our "guide" neglected to tell us that they existed~~but that is another story). :sad2:

Word I am hearing is that they are looking to modify for Hawaii. They are confident that GCV will sell out...probably with the existing members (never reach public sale).

We toured the model yesterday morning (9/29) for the first time. It was beautiful and matched the theme of the Grand Californian, but not nearly as fun of a theme as the Boardwalk IMO. Really loved the extra bed that comes down in the living room (in addition to the sofa bed) that will make it easily fit five people! And the bathroom shutters opening to the bedroom (just like the BLT model online).

Here's the scoop we got! Before we toured we were told that they were closing so they could tweak the room. The CM said the model room was not an exact representation of what the rooms would actually look like, so they are closing them and redoing them to reflect minor changes that have been made.

Also...the CM said we should expect the GCV to go on sale at the end of this year of the start of next year!

We just bought BWV and can't wait to buy GCV since we live in Seattle and get down to Disneyland once a year. We're waiting to see what happens with the stock market, as all our extra $ is tied up there right now and things have been so crazy!

Not DVC...but kinda interesting, and maybe this is already known to many, but my mom's shuttle driver at Disneyland said they will be taking out the CALIFORNIA letters in front of California Adventures and removing some parts of Downtown Disney to expand the parks out & add more rides!

I'm kinda scared to ask this question: When buying BWV did you buy through Disney and if so did you get the option to become a founding member of VGC? If so I'm going to be frustrated. We were told the only way to do this was to buy AKV (BLT wasn't yet for sale to the public at that time). Luckily it was our second choice WDW DVC resort. But if I could have bought at our first choice and gotten the founding members option I would have preferred that.

This is all encouraging. I saw the updated post on DVCNews this afternoon that tjkraz runs, and was encouraged, though mystified by the on again off again status of the models! Hopefully what DisneyDreamers07 says about going on sale at end of this year or beginning of next ends to be the case, and not just another CM line!!! :) We can all hope!!

It's closing, it's opening, it's closing, it's opening......whew! :faint: All I want to do is buy it! :yay:

I forgot to mention that our guide said all of the GCV would be views of the park, no standard views.

Berthy...We aren't Founding Members, we bought BWV resale for $81 per point. We have our names on a waiting list now for GCV, but won't be able to buy until after the Founding Members get their chance. If we are able to buy points that will be GREAT, if not we will keep going for our great deals & beautiful Priceline rooms and will be happy too. Last year we stayed at a 1-bedroom Hilton Suite for $50 per night inc taxes & fees and breakfast using Priceline, this year we stayed at a $340 room at Disneyland, and it made for a good DVC discussion for my DH and I.

We also were talking with our guide that it would be likely for Disney to add other DVC properties at DL when they see how successful GCV will be...so that could be an option in the future.

We loved seeing the models last Sat. 9/27 and were told they were temporarily closing for tweaks. Our guide didn't think they would be on sale until Spring 2009.

That was what I was initially told a year ago. Wow, can't believe it's been a year! I actually hope sales don't start until then so I can save up more money for even more points. I do wish they would release the info on points and price, however.

Exactly... it's not like it's a "secret" like BLT was... they need to just release the dumb chart already!

I think it's a good decision to wait until the last possible minute to solidify the chart and the prices. Why commit yourself until it's necessary? Especially with the craziness in the financial markets right now. They are going to want to position and price VGC in the way that makes them the most money. Pricing is a delicate thing - a fine line to walk.

hmm... you think we could show up together and beg our way in?

Our new guide is Jim Marshall (1-866-477-9617) and he's very nice and based out of the DVC office in California, seems to be available often. Maybe you should call your guide, or call Jim, and ask for the scoop? See if it will be open again, or if they can arrange for you to see the model, while you are down there.

Well, I am here!! I say we do it! Maybe we can sneak over there and no one will notice?

I asked the person at the DVC table if I could tour the GCV model. He said "Oh, sorry, they are closed for a couple of weeks, they decided to modify the design."

To which I replied "Oh, so they aren't shut down forever, just a few weeks?" and he LAUGHED AT ME and said "yeah, like they'd spend that much money putting them together only to have it open for a few months. No no no, they will open back up again shortly. I'd suggest calling first before you come back." I asked if he knew a date, he said no.

So, for what its worth, that's what I was told here a couple of hours ago. ;)
