We're at Disneyland right now and stopped by one of the DVC kiosks in the park. The CM there mentioned that the GCV models are being taken down and will not be viewable after 9/30 (Tuesday).

Just thought I'd pass the info along for anyone out here or who will be visiting in the next few days.

That seems rather strange as GCV still has not even started to sell. One would think that they still wanted the models up and running as and when this goes on sale. Could this be a sign that they are abandoning GCV?

Wow, that is strange. It didn't make sense that they opened the models before they were available to sell. You walk through the model, are impressed, but then you can't buy and leave. I would be sad if GCV fell through.

Did you ask why?

My guess is that there are so few GCVs, and they will be so popular, they will sell without an active model.
Seeing as though BLT is so much larger, a model may be needed.

Just a guess.. :smokin:

Hmmmmm.... how odd. Glad I got to see them in July. Wonder what's up...

Hopefully someone else visiting DL will ask and we'll get more details. Maybe they are closing them down to make some final changes prior to opening and starting to sell? Seems very strange they'd build the models then close down to convert into another DVC resort model prior to GVC going on sale....

I would think that if they had not decided to go forward with DVC they would have just closed the models . . . . .not keep it open any longer even for a few days. I am going to call my guide tomorrow.

My suspicion--it is so small they expect it to sell out and they are converting to BLT.

ASSUMING of course, that it's true they are closing the models; those kiosk workers have been known to be wrong . . . .

My guide is at the DL resort. Maybe I will give her a dingle and find out what's up?

As if they don't have the room for two models on site? I find this very odd.

actually, the place where they have the models is only big enough to handle one two bedroom model. guess they could build another building somewhere else . . . .

We toured a week ago today and the guide told us that they were to be closed for awhile for updates. She specifically mentioned that the pull out pantry needed to be re-engineered because it comes off the track.

However her comments could also be true if they were updating them to look like BLT. I wouldn't be at all surprised due to the size and demand for VGC. But why would they have done the models in the first place? As a trial run for the designers before they started building out the interior of the real building/villas?

I really hope it's a little while longer before they go on sale - I need to save up more $$$ first if possible! Has anyone actually looked up CA timeshare laws about when the units can sell? I might have to Google it.

Something like this makes more sense. Since GCV isn't on sale and it seems that it won't be for awhile there wouldn't seem to be a real need to have the models open yet - except of course for us who want to buy in and can't wait!!!!!! I'm hoping that this is the reason. It would seem a bit strange that they would spend all the money to convert the models to GCV and then switch to BLT before they even begin selling GCV.

OK I just asked DH how he interpreted her statement. I was in La La land at the time because we'd just decided to finallybuy in - Happy Anniverary to me!

Anyway, I didn't plant anything in his head from this thread- just asked what he remembered her saying about them closing. He said his imipression from her statement was that they were closing for good at the end of October (or maybe in Oct?) and "redoing them" to something else.

That would still fit with the pantry comment because that same design is in BLT.

FWIW, she also said that if all the founding members buy 160 points that would add up to around 500,000 points sold (but she aknowledged that many wouldn't buy that much - but I think many will). Then it would go to all other DVC members. She was adamant that it would never go to the public. Really adamant. Of course that could have easily been a sales tactic of course - or maybe half and half.

A couple months ago I asked here at the Dis why they would even bother to do VGC models if they thought it would sell out so quickly. Someone here had an excellent response that made sense but I don't recall what it was. I remember that it made me less sure that the resort would make it the public.

Maybe then they feel that once sales open up they can just open a room at GCV in case they do need to showcase it if it doesn't sell out to DVC members. I could also see that they might think that the excitement of BLT might be something to get their sales going at a better pace at DL.

Still - seems like it was a bit excessive to ever do the models, but I guess they figure they have it sold if they are closing them! :rolleyes1

I can't wait for someone to find out something concrete. This is bizarre. If they were going to do a BLT model, why would they have not had it ready before, so that it could have been open the day they announced BLT sales?

Has DL ever had a model of a WDW DVC resort? I doubt it, otherwise they'd still have an AKV model on site & it would certainly make more sense to re-do that one than GCV.

Truly weird. They aren't even the same floor plan...the GCV has two bathrooms in the 1 bedroom like AKV and the BLT has only one, or not??

BLT also has two bathrooms in a one BR.

I've already called my guide to let him know we want an add-on as soon as points are available. We bought at WDW, so no priority window for us :sad2:
