GCH Concierge question

oops...my bad, the one time I think I have some info for someone and I'm wrong!! I could have swore there was one in there...there is a toaster though...right?? Or am I really losin' it? :confused3

They do have a toaster out at breakfast, but they put it away after breakfast when they are getting ready to put out the lunch items.

And to the person who asked about cordials, I don't believe they do those anymore. I believe it is only beer and wine (at least that is all they have had the last several times I have been there).

We've never have done it, but had developer points from buying into DVC that we had to use!!! Will probably be the only time we do this.

We are leaving for our first trip to Disneyland in 21 days. We had to use up our developer points also. Have never stayed concierge before but after reading all these posts I am really looking forward to it. Glad to know there is food pretty much all day. My two boys 11 and 8 can eat like there is no tomorrow!! :)

Also, for those of you going shortly, they serve their sodas in glass bottles (upscale I guess...), anyway, you cannot take glass into the parks, so 1 thing that we do when staying there, is to drink a water, and then pour the soda into the plastic bottle that has a lid, so that you can take it in your backpack with you. If you enter through the gate in the Grand to DCA, they supply cups and lids, but those won't go into your backpack. PP and DLH both have cans in their concierge lounges, so you don't have to worry about it there.

You can also take stuff to your rooms so that you have supplies in there for your kids when the lounge is closed. We take ziploc bags with us to put things like the gold fish crackers or the trail mix in to take with us.

Thanks for the great ideals! Will be sure to put zip lock bags on my list!!:thumbsup2

I hope you'll give us a review (with pictures!) when you get back. We are down to 28 days..going on Labor Day sunday and Monday then also Tuesday and Wednesday. I know it will be crowded, but hopefully not as bad on Tues and Wed. My birthday is labor day, so really wanted the giftcard to use to upgrade our PH to AP and see how that works.

oohh i'm going in september..i'll take pics too:yay:

You have to ask for the cordials. We were in Concierge in April and June and cordials are included, but they are not in plain view, you must ask for what you want.

OK, they used to have a sign out on the counter top that showed that they have them, but now they don't put that sign out, so I just assumed that they no longer had them (plus, I hadn't seen anyone drinking them either).

It seems like a subtle way to cut costs, it is not advertised (sign out), but it still available and still part of the concierge package.

If people are new to concierge they do not know to ask for it, so they don't. We had Grand Marnier and Bailey's, but most people either did not order or just had wine.

I will definitly post some pictures and review once we get back. We come home on Labour Day Monday.

We stayed GCH Concierge last May on Developer points too (I see a trend here :) ) We absolutely loved it. We are sad that the new villas won't have a concierge option as I'm sure we'd book it now that we've had a taste. The breakfast was a huge time and $$ saver, since our kids still nap we were able to take advantage of the afternoon snacks and quiet time, and the evening appetizers and desserts were our dinner many a night. We also took full advantage of the free wine and beer :goodvibes

My kids made a few friends at the nightly storytime that they got to see again each night. It was also a great way to wind down a busy day given the park closed at 8pm.

We just got back from a DLH stay but didn't do concierge. Didn't have enough points at the time and just didn't think it would be as special as GCH. I'll have to figure out a way to recreate concierge in our GC 1BR villa when we return in April!

Just a note...you know that The Grand Californian Hotel will not be available
after December 2009 for DVC points or Developer Points. Once Disney has DVC as part of the hotel, the hotel section can no longer be used on points.

I will also recreate concierge at VGC by stocking our fridge with little bottles Dansai water. :)

Many thanks for the confirmation, disney4metoo. DH and I will certainly be asking for them ... so good with the chocolate covered strawberries! :drinking1

Would anyone know what time they start serving breakfast at? I am running in the 1/2 marathon and we have an early start. Just wondering if I should pack my own oatmeal?
Thanks! :)

I do not think anything is open at that ungodly hour that you have to be up, so you better plan on bringing your oatmeal. We are doing the 1/2 in WDW in January and will have planned breakfast (i.e. protein drink, protein bars, etc).

Breakfast in the lounge begins at 6:30...

We are staying in three weeks in a theme park view room, no concierge. What floor is the lounge on? Is the door open? I'd love to peek in and see what is available so possibly next trip we do it. To be honest we stayed at the GCH when it first opened (years ago) and we were exploring the lounge floor (was it the 5th floor?)....there was an open door and DH and I went in. We took some cheese and drinks like everyone else. We later realized it was concierge and not part of our package. Opps, but funny! No one carded us or asked a question. As the door was standing open, I didn't see a sign. And no, I don't make it a practice of walking into conventions and start eating :rotfl:Anyways I don't remember what it really looked like or even what floor except it was in the inner atirium (spelling).

I don't know what it's like at GCH, but if its anything like PPH an DLH, it has a locked door accessible only by a key card. There's a thread somewhere here with photos of the concierge lounges though.

Thanks for the responses. I will pack my breakfast food just in case.

I will also be at WDW in January. Attempting the Goofy:goofy: challenge for the first time. Where will you be staying?

The CMs in the lounge fixed 'special' hot chocolate for my girls when we were there. When we'd show up in the morning, the CM would run in the back and come back out with giant hot chocolates smothered in whipped cream with chocolate syrup garnish! They do have cocoa packets on the counter with hot water to make your own, so that was really awesome of the CMs, I thought.

I didn't know you could order liqueurs! Wish I'd known when we were there.

I did see a guy who was very friendly to the CM get served well past the happy hour! He had beer clear up until 10 PM. It was kind of funny, because he said he normally never drank but he was on vacation and didn't have to walk very far to get back to his room. The CM laughed about it and kept him supplied, but he wasn't sloppy drunk or anything.

There is also a computer you can use plus games and movies/TV in the lounge. Here are a few pictures, which unfortunately don't include food:
