I called up because I would love to go back to DL in Sept. I wanted a standard room for 2 nights Sept 26 for 2 nights, over $600.00....looks like I will not be going there, just going to do San Fran and Vegas, Disney is sucking the $$$$ out of people...I feel bad forthe ones that have little kids, you need 3 jobs to be able to take the kids. maybe it is me but come on just seems out of most peoples reach.

The good thing is that there are very reasonably priced good neighbor hotels across the street if you cannot afford the Disney prices. . . The price is quite high . . . . since this will likely be our only trip ever to Disneyland (or maybe one of two in our lifetime, we shall see) we are splurging. Luckily we have been saving some every month and are using a good chunk of our tax return :)

Maybe better rates will be released closer to the date?

I know what your saying...Im going on friday

Its my hubby my 14 year old..my 12 year old..my 9 year old and my 3 year old,and me.

so much money and we live here in cali i cant imagine if we needed a hotel room..:scared1:

Dayana~~!

You don't need three jobs, you just can't stay at the Grand every time!!! DL is pretty feasible if you save like me (we are one income and that one is not that high!)

We only do the Grand when we get great rates like $189 or $209 a night. If you go in October for the first two weeks, it's $209 a night! That would save you about $100!

Oh and I meant to say, it's not just you! I would love to stay there everytime but it is out of most people's reach, otherwise there would be no levels of hotels, they would all be the same. I mean if the Grand charges $100 a night, then the HOJO would have to charge about $5!!!

The Grand is something we have to save for and only do once out of every 5 or 6 trips! Or you could do what I am doing in April and go with family that will only stay there!!! It's a lucky break.

BTW, the first two weeks of October the DLH is only $169! Not sure if that interests you or not!! That would be even less!!

I just called last week to see if next year was open yet, and it's not yet, but the lady gave me some rates for off season time based on what it is now, and I checked the Grand Cali just to SEE, as I have pretty much decided on Disneyland Hotel for sure. She quoted me 350-400 a night can't remember which exact, but even she said yikes this was for a standard. I don't plan on staying there, but wanted to see what the going rate was if it was tempting enough then MAYBE, but I am not crazy about the Grand Cali. I like the looks of the Disneyland Hotel from pics family has shown me much beter, more classic theme. If you really want a disney resort check some less spa like ones. Try DisneyLand hotel, they arent cheap, but sure arent Grand prices, or paradise pier a bit cheaper than Disneyland hotel, but still NOT Grand prices. You will get to go, and still stay at a disney resort.

I did book GC @ $309. and change a night, I also book belligo and that was only $229.00 a night for partial view of the fountains...Oh well I really should learn how to save money. Last Deember I said I was staying there because I will never go back and I am going, I found my new love or Disney.:cool1:

Yes, famous last words for most people!! I love when I hear "this is my first and only trip so I am going big" and then before you know it they cant' stay away!! It'll getcha everytime!! Good for you! You will have a fantastic trip!

Gail,
We have a three day trip planned for the second weekend in Sept at the Grand as well. My DD works at Buzz and the Castmember rate is $290 for a view room - standard is cheaper, but they did not have any available (at the CM rate). I have it tenatively reserved, but am hoping for a better rate once the time gets closer. If it does not drop, we may cancel and stay at the Sheraton using points. I wish we could take advantage of the $209 rate in Oct, but those dates don't work for us. I think it is getting harder and harder to find great rates. Maybe we will get some awesome A/P rates? I am still hopeful for a deal!;)

WOW even though it is a view room ( lets face it, you don't sit looking outside the whole time)that is still a high price. To bad everyone wouldn't boycott Disney would reallize little $$ is better then no money at all. :rotfl:

Consider renting points from a DVC member. During value periods the Grand Californian is only 24 points per night. with much persistance you can get these points as low as $8. For $200 per night including taxes you can stay where you want to stay.

I agree with you. I looked into staying at GCH just out of curiousity because I thought if it wasn't a whole lot more than the good neighbour hotels I would splurge but to stay just a couple of nights was almost as much as it cost us TOTAL what we payed for our trip the year before. We're talking flights, hotel and transportation. I really thought it was ridiculous and I was sad. Maybe one day though I can justify it, but honestly I really like the howard johnson hotel and it's sooooo much cheaper. Maybe it if I squeeze my eyes shut really tight and hold my breath until my face turns red and make a wish to be super rich I will be able to afford GCH.

I just tried it, and I'm still not rich...
