GC Incentive if Housekeeping Declined? Update July 14 - Testing Concluded

I don't think so. I believe at this point, it is all or nothing.

Friends are there now and we're able to get their room serviced 2 days out of their 9 night stay. They didn't get gift cards for those days.

For deliveries directly by "the company" to Bell Services (eg Amazon Prime Now; Garden Grocer; Turner Drugs) there is no fee.

For deliveries by the Postal Service or a shipping/courier service (UPS, FedEx, DHS, etc), there is a $5 fee per item/package/box at the non-convention resorts and a variable fee (weight ? size? both? per item) at the convention resorts (they have a business centre that receives the packages).

SW
Thanks for this info. I was wondering about Amazon Prime Now as we plan to use it in Nov.

We always do direct to room.
If I go down on that first day do you think I can find out if they are offering this at All Star Sports in August ???

Couple of things...the new rooms at CSR and Pop and I think several others when all said and done will be easier to clean because they don't have carpets and most surfaces are level...they can swiffer and wipe down really fast. So less time to clean.

Of course Disney wants to cut costs. All businesses do. If they can save money, they will test it out.

I also think the fact that mousekeeping is a union represented group of workers is a factor. If they lower the total number of positions needed, they will save even more come contract negotiation time.

Well I'm probably in the minority here, but I like coming back to my room after a day in the parks to fresh towels, a freshly made bed and empty trash cans.
Well, after the experience I had with housekeeping at Pop this week, I think I'm going to have to eat my words! If I am given this option on my short 4-day August trip, I will probably take them up on it.

I was at Pop this week from Sunday to Wednesday, and had the housekeeper bang on the door and then barge in on me on Monday afternoon, and again on Tuesday morning, despite the fact that I had the PRIVACY PLEASE sign on the door both times! On Monday, I had been up and out early, came back around noon to take a nap, room had not been cleaned, so I put the sign on the door knob. I was awakened at about 12:45 to loud banging on my door, so I jumped up as the housekeeper started opening the door. I was not fully dressed, so I ran to the door and stood behind it and housekeeper asked me when I was leaving. Told her I wasn't sure, but didn't need anything as I had just arrived the previous day. She tells me to call housekeeping when I leave the room so it can be cleaned. I decided to leave again around 3ish, so I pushed the housekeeping button on the phone and got guest services. Told them I was trying to get housekeeping, but they said they could help me. I asked that my room be cleaned. I should have told them that the housekeeper barged in on me earlier despite the privacy sign being on the door, but I didn't. Frankly, I was worried about retaliation if I complained. Came back to room very late after MK EMH and room was cleaned, no problems.

Decided to sleep in on Tuesday since Monday was a late night, so had the Privacy Please sign hanging on the door again. Got up around 10:00am and hopped in the shower. As I was coming out of the bathroom (in just a towel!), housekeeper is banging on my door. I yell that I am still in the room, but she starts opening the door! I screamed at her that I had just gotten out of the shower and to SHUT THE DOOR! Thankfully, she shut the door.
Cannot begin to tell you how angry I was, so of course I immediately called "housekeeping", and talked to someone again in Guest Services. Told them what happened and that I was extremely upset. Person says he will have the housekeeping manager call me and then tells me to "have a magical day!" Too late for that!

Housekeeping manager calls me about 15 minutes later, so I explain everything to him, and reiterated that the Privacy Please sign was indeed hanging on the door knob both days. He just pretty much blew me off and said "well, sorry that happened, don't know why she would do that, I'll talk to her." I told him I didn't want anyone coming in my room at all until I checked out. It sure would have been nice to have a SINCERE apology!

Has anyone else ever had housekeeping completely disregard the Privacy sign??

That sounds super annoying, but I'm curious if you had the door latched shut? I always use the latch just in case housekeeping decides to come in unexpectedly. I've had them come really early at times (like 9am!)

No, I didn't because I was alone and I worry that if something happens to me, such as a fall in the shower, no one will be able to get to me. I guess I will have to rethink that strategy though.

Hi, we stayed at ASMo over the weekend and a GC was offered to us to decline housekeeping. As DVC members, I am used to the lack of housekeeping and always do my own so we accepted the offer. We stayed Sat-Tues and received a $40 GC=$20 for two nights. I must say, I haven't stayed at an All Stars in quite a few years and was troubled by the lack of updating and refurbishment. After staying and noticing the decline, I'm not sure if a GC in place of housekeeping is such a great idea! Are there any plans for a refurbishment to any of the All-Stars? It is desperately needed.
May I ask how this works? I will ne staying there in September. As soon as you check in, do they ask you? And if you say yes, do they give you the GC right there? Thanks.

First of all - wow on the annoying housekeeping. I would not have been amused. At all. I am a Privacy Please sign putter outer and I would have been so angry to be disturbed while chilling on vacation.

Secondly, I've read here that children have accidentally locked themselves in rooms with the latch and management (I think?) has a tool that can get the latch unlocked.

I think it will be the opposite, because just sweeping the floors is not cleaning them. I have tile, laminate and real wood floors in my house and we do not wear our shoes in the house and I can tell you that using a swiffer is only good for light dirt/dust, it will just push around the type of dirt that will be tracked into these rooms from shoes. So I sure hope they do not go in that direction, these floors still need to be vacuumed. Plus, they now have to clean under the beds again and I can tell you from past experience, that was not their strong suit in the past, before they started putting in the bed boxes. I am going to be very interested in a few years to see how these floors are holding up.

True on the laminate and under the bed part...didn't think of that.

Your thinking has its merits!

I stayed at a Cedar Point hotel for one night last August while traveling solo. I locked the hotel room door and also used the metal latch, as I was in for the night. I intended to color my hair, so I brought my iPad with me into the bathroom to use as a timer. (My cell phone was charging on the nightstand.) After using the toilet, and while still fully dressed - I tried to open the bathroom door, but it wouldn't open! The bathroom door wasn't locked, but the handle wouldn't turn - so I was stuck IN the bathroom! Since I had my iPad (thankfully!) and I was connected to wifi - I sent messages to 3 Facebook friends, hoping one of them was online. All 3 responded pretty quickly, but I asked the first responder to call the hotel's front desk to tell them I was stuck in my bathroom. Someone came up to my room right away, but couldn't get the door latch open. I waited about 40 minutes before someone from maintenance arrived who could open the latch on the door, and then let me out of the bathroom. They replaced the bathroom door handle so the next guest wouldn't get stuck in there - but I don't know what I would've done if I hadn't had my iPad with me!

Wow that's really annoying. In all of our Disney stays, that has never happened to us. Actually the opposite, when we stated at Kidani AK, when we cane back after the park (at 4pM) to our dismay our room hadn't been cleaned. (Even though as we left at 9am I called housekeeping asking for our room to be cleaned early). When the cleaning lady showed to to clean , she claimed the go not disturb sign had been on our door - but it wasn't as I always make sure when we leave the room.

I've never heard of that.

I don't think I would decline housekeeping though. I like a cleaned up room after a day out.

I sure hope if people decline housekeeping for a few days they throw out their own garbage! :p
Me either. Fresh towels each day are one of my favorite things about vacation :)
