What exactly is Gay days?

i know it was in october but can anyone inform me on what people really do on those days?

I'll attempt. Some very nice people get together and go to Disneyland. They offer a group discount on tickets and I believe hotels to likeminded people. They bring friends and family and ride the rides, see the shows, eat the food, and walk around. Just another day at the park with nice people.

So don't go those days. Its like 2 or 3 days out of the whole year. I'm not bothered by it. I've seen war and abuse; those things bother me far more.

Umm, what they "do" is what everybody does at DL. Ride rides, see shows, eat food, enjoy being on vacation with friends and loved ones. What are you trying to ask?

Yes its an annual convention event for people who like the same gender to get together and go to the park for the weekend, and just enjoy their time there like everyone else going on rides, watching parades and shows and such. The park hours are the exact same for these groups as everyone else. Its just like taking a big family to the park to enjoy the day. This event is usually the first weekend in Oct. These groups are usually dressed in Red T-Shirts so they are quite noticeable. There are group discounts for tickets and hotels and such that you can get for this event. Anyone can purchase these park tickets at a great discount. You just dont get EE with it.

I dont want to lie, I do not find this event a little weird, cause it is personal choice and I dont knock it, but some people do get uncomfortable as it is noticeable at times. So if you are the type who feels a little uncomfortable around such things I would suggest skipping that weekend.

It is an unoffical gathering of people with their friends, families and significiant others who specially go to enjoy all that DLR has to offer in a red shirt on a specific weekend. Oh and they happen to like the same sex in relationships.

I have been and the only bad behavior I saw was from a some who was not apart of the gathering, who was acting very badly and worse in front of his son. Otherwise it was any other weekend for us just a bit busier.

I have been apart of another unoffical Disney gathering for a few years now (Bat's day) and I much prefer people asking about the event instead of pre-judging the event. Since the reason these events only occur because we love Disney like everyone else and like to have an occassion to be even more ourselves while enjoying the parks.

The trip reports elsewhere sounded like it was just a blast. Lots of straight family and friends go, too, wearing red shirts, for camraderie.

fairycat, you have an extra http// in your veggie food report link...off to go read it, I love veggie food reports!!!

Ok yea someone told me something totally different....on what they supposedly do.. kind of bizarre lol

but i guess its suppose to be a really fun time

It's an annual get together where gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, etc. get together to enjoy the park. Most people wear red shirt to identify themselves to others. The organizers put together a lot of dance parties, etc at the various hotels.

As a lesbian, I was going to go this past year, but the parks are unbelievably busy.

Everytime I visit Disney I see gay people, gay families, etc. It's the happiest place on earth and even the gays want to visit.

If you aren't comfortable with the gay lifestyle, I would recommend just not visiting that weekend.

There's nothing they "do" other than enjoy the park. They just choose a weekend of the year to show solidarity in their visit.

Well, no i have no problem with that

but I am most concerned about crowds......

We try to go once a year. So i just want to see when the best times to go

even, though we probably are going to go in February.

Also, during Gay Days is the park dressed up for Halloween yet???

I would love to go when the park is decorated for Halloween! =]

It was decorated a bit in the middle of September, but by the 1st of October, everything should be up!

Sept 21 this year was the first "official" day of Holloween Time.... So it was all up. It takes a bit of time to get everthing up so there was stuff from right after labor day if you happened to be there...

Just like this weekend, there were a bunch of Christmas displays up, but Christmas time hasn't "officially started" yet.

As for the original question, I used to be very against "gay days" of any sort, not because I am against gays, but simply because I didn't see the need, they don't hold "straight" days etc...

But after talking to a gay person one time, he convinced me of the reason and rational behind it, and I changed my thoughts.

Also, I think most folks perception of anything "gay day" related is the outlandish stuff you see in some of the parades on TV, this to my understanding is not the case at DL, because, well, it is DL after all.

And I agree with the rest, if your offended or uncomfortable, then just pick a different weekend.... then there are no worries.

Honestly, it's just like any other weekend in the park except a little more busy and lot of people wearing red. We went last year, we had made our plans before we knew about the event and were concerned about the crowds. It wans't really bad at all. There were no public displays of affection that we had to try to explain to our daughter or anything.

Also I know they do have a scavanger hunt in the park. And each day is dedicated to one of the parks. Like Sat is for DL and Sun is for DCA. Not sure if that helps or not.

My brother and his friends go every year and love it. They joke around that it is the only weekend that the # of gay guests outnumber the # of gay CMs. My brother and his SO join us every year when we go for Thanksgiving. They are really nice, fun guys (and so are their friends we've met). The only antics I hear about regarding Gay Days are when they group together and try to trigger the weight limit sensors on the rides with weight limits (POTC, SW, Space Mtn, and Splash Mtn).

Agree, always chuckle when i read the homophobe posts as to gay days (whether @ WDW/DL); assume the individuals have no idea of the persuasion of many of the CMs:rolleyes1

i'm not keen on any overt PDAs in public;) ; course i don't rule the world - yet lol.

Did read there was a "mini-gay" event @ DL this April (6 months after the October '06 one). Had hoped to perchance snag tix for our summer trip; anyone know if it's going to happen again in '08?

My DW and I went to WDW during a so called Gay Day weekend in 2001 without knowing it was going on. And except for the abundant "pride" attire, and the more than average same gender couples holding hands, we'd have never known the difference.

I personally wouldn't hesitate going as long as you are tolerant of other people's views.

We went to DL during Gay Days '07. One or two others posted they'd never go again due to "inappropriate behavior", but didn't explain what that meant. All we saw was LOTS of people wearing red shirts and holding hands and laughing and having a good time.

There was only one incident we witnessed. It was in DTD near the monorail, and a pre-teen boy looked at the sea of red shirts passing by and yelled out, "Ewwww, gay people!" then looked around at the crowd for attention. I rolled my eyes at him and kept walking. It seemed he was completely ignored by everyone, and he slithered back to his family. :sad2:
