I just read an older thread that mentioned Gators by the canals. I actually requested site by canal so I can fish....:) If my wife hears any whisper of gators all bets are off and she is going to do one of those wife freak out things....:scared1: (In this case it may be justified as we have little ones and a little dog).

Are there gators and or a threat from gators by the canal and or in the campground?

Also; do the sites have internet connections?

About the gators, I don't know but I hope not, I have a beagle we are taking with us that likes to keep her nose to the ground and snoop things out. I called FTW today and asked about internet service, I was told that if you are staying in a prefered camp site you are offered internet service for 10.00 a day or you can go down to settlement station or something like that but it still cost you the 10.00 per day, you get a convertor box at the front desk and have to have a credit card on file. A little steep for me even though I did want to email some WDW pictures while we were there. Oh well.

The possibility of gators is there, a picture on this site a couple of months back shows one in the canal/pond at the meadows trading post. I have personally seen a couple of small ones at CSR. Disney usually removes them if they are reported and get too large. Having said all that, I wouldnt worry and change my plans as they not that frequent and dangerous. I haven't read of a guest being lost to a gator yet.

All Florida has gators.....I as there over New Years...rented a boat in the campground and saw a 3 foot gator on the bank of the canal. Also saw an otter. Disney policy is to remove them as they get larger-I don't think you will see one that is more than a few feet. We have two small dogs and take them on the pet walk area nar the canal...I would not let them get away from me, but do not have any concern about being out there. The gators a more active at night and in warmer weather.

I would not worry about it.

My daughter and I did the little canoe ride back in August and we didn't see any gators. I won't ever pay again though to canoe there as it is a joke. All that area is, is a retention pond.
