Gate checking big stroller on small plane?

We are going to WDW next month and after reading lots of threads about strollers (rental vs. bringing own) I've decided to bring our Safari TT double jogging stroller. We have a 3 and 5 year old and I know my 5 year old, she needs a stroller. We'll be there 8 days and I really think having a good stroller will make or break our trip. I'm not worried about the size of it at WDW because it's not any bigger than the double rentals, plus it has the swivel front wheel so it handles really well. I'm worried about the size when gate checking it on the plane. We are flying on a smaller plane and I get the impression it's one of those deals where you walk out onto the tarmac and up steps onto the plane. Any one know if gate checking will be an issue? I'm thinking about making a canvas bag that it will fit in with the wheels off. Any opinions? Am I better off just leaving the wheels on and folding it and leaving it at that? Thanks for any help.

On the smaller planes luggage seems to get less beat up. I'd just fold it up and give it to them. Because those planes are small, they load quickly, and if it takes more than a couple minutes to get the wheels off, and it into a bag, then you could literally hold up the plane, unless you do it in the gate area before they call for boarding.

I figure we will be at the gate plenty early and would just pack the stroller in the bag then. Although if it's unncessary I'd rather just fold it and let it go like that. The thing is heavy and bulky even when folded in half and I guess I was thinking I should make it as easy as possible for whoever has to move it.
