Gastric bypass and eating in the parks?

Does this work the same for Lap Band patients? Can they present a card from their doctor and be charged as a child's meal at buffets?
I don't know of anyone that has actually gotten a discount using a card. I checked when I booked everything and was told that I was an adult and would be charged a full price regardless of what I had from my doctor. And for the record, I don't have a card but would have tried to get one if they had told me it would work.

I would imagine it works the same. I don't think the child's price at buffets is an actual policy, but I've seen a few posts saying that the Disney restaurants were doing that, after being shown the card.

Just a FYI...I've found that some "regular" restaurants near my home will give you the child's price on the buffet too. It never hurts to ask.

Well, this at least is worth a shot. I just can't see them honoring this practice for gastric bypass patients and not lap band patients as well. I'm a little confused though so if you can help me out that would be great. This "child's price at buffet" practice is not an actual policy, right? For those who have gotten the child's price, what did they have to show the server? Was it just a note from the doctor or is there an actual card doctors give weight loss patients that state they have had the surgery? Before I go to my friend I want to make sure I have this all straight.

It is not a formal policy. However, what you would generally need to do is let the server know at the start of the meal that you have had bypass/banding and will eat very little.

This allows for the server to possibly observe how you are eating. It may be up to the server or a manager might have to be called in.

If they do give you the reduced price you may be pleasant, but don't expect it all the time.

I have the card but have always felt uncomfortable about asking for the discount. I know I shouldn't because honestly, I eat less then my 6 year old at this point, but I've always felt like I would be asking for something I really shouldn't be entitled to. I've just felt like it's embarassing and I'm just being cheap. Does anyone else feel this way?

Thank you for explaining the process!:thumbsup2

I don't have one nor would I use it. I'm not one to call attention to myself but that's just me. I don't want any server having to watch what I eat.

We tended to avoid the buffets and go to either counter service or restaurants where you order off the menu. I had no problem ordering a child's meal. Solved the whole problem.

The point of the server watching how much a person eats is to avoid cheating. A person could get a card from a friend who had the surgery or faked on the they could pay the lesser price and then pigged out while paying the cheaper price. I would not doubt that someone will eventually read about this discount and try to use it by faking the surgery.

Yeah, I figured that part out which is why I never even attempted to ask for a discount when I was at a buffet. I asked Disney Dining in a phone call about a month ahead of time. Once they said no I decided to just pay full price for all buffet meals. End of discussion.

If you read my other posts you will see that I never expected special treatment and I don't even have one of those cards. In fact, I've never even seen one.
