Gasp...I'm thinking of straying off WDW property to go to Universal!

I'm already planning a week-long trip to the Orlando area next March during my son's spring break. He specifically asked about going to Universal and IOA instead of WDW only! I am tempted to oblige, since my AP will expire in October, and I'd have to start a new one in March. I checked hotel rates at the Lowes Hotels web site, but they are showing nothing available for my dates. Is it that booked already, or do those hotels not accept reservations that far in advance?

Why the gasp? You probably should have done this a long time ago.

I don't think the 2006 rates are out yet, that may be why you can't get booked. You can call the reservation line directly and they will let you know for sure. I do not have access to my AP at this time, or else I would look up the number for you. I am pretty sure it is available on www.UniversalOrlando.com

Thanks! I did check with UniversalOrlando - and they don't have 2006 hotel rates, and probably won't - until fall.

NancyIl, don't hesitate. Universal's resorts are comparable to Disney deluxes. We stayed off WDW property for the first time last May. The only thing we regretted was not staying at the RPR longer. Don't get me wrong, WDW was incredible (we stayed there after staying at Universal) as always. But Universal was great too.

We decided that we are going to alternate between UO and WDW each year. This year we are staying at the Portofino for 10 nights. We don't plan on setting foot in WDW during our stay. Next year, we are back at WDW.

If you're bringing teenagers you'll probably all LUV the Hard Rock. We luved it there, I liked the Royal Pacific which we did last year but liked the Hard Rock better. You'll really like it, even if you split your stay between Universal and Disney. Next time we're hoping to try Portofino Bay. I really disagree with some of the posts that say it doesn't have the magic Disney has, I really luv Universal also. And if you stay on site, you jump everyone on line, its soo fabulous! :goodvibes

PS. Since you know when you're going, call as soon as they have those dates available to book, also I know they used to offer Entertainment Rates also but if you check around u can snag really good rates, I think the earlier the better chance.

I got a great rate for spring break '04 on hotelkingdom.com-had my flights and kept watching rates and then some nice person posted on this borad that hotelkingdom was having a sale on Universal hotels and I snageed a gardenview for $151.20 which was about 40% off regular rates so I'd advise to just check often. Mine are wanting to go back but it'll be next summer probably!!
