So it's looking like I'll be driving from Philly to WDW later this summer. I'm sure there are all kinds of gas stations at the various exits of 95. For those of you that drive are there an abundance of any one particular gas station? I'm going to start getting gas cards to use for the round trip and don't want to get any if there are no stations along the route. Sunoco, Exxon, Shell or any others that are seen frequently?

Try the i95exitguide.com, it has what is available at each exit. I have found it useful, especially when someone has a craving for a cracker barrel or a frosty. We travel from south jersey, 20 min from Philly, and I don't recall any 1 gas station dominating the market. What about just prepaid visa cards to use anywhere?

Prepaid visa cards are a better option - you won't see typical gas stations on I95 corridor like we have around the NE area.

However, you might want to top off your tank at one of the stations at Exit #3 in GA. Their prices are much lower than in Florida.

We drive down from the philly area. We prefer FlyingJ/Pilot. Run in your first time and get their frequent travelers or rv card. They are free but get you a couple cents off per gal and more importantly...cash price when using a credit card. We use the stations in Carmel Church VA, Latta SC, then we use the raceway at exit 3 in GA (going south take a right at the end of the I95 off ramp). The gas in disney is also not too bad, they are Hess stations and the walmart on Vineland RD is a murphy gas but you need a walmart gift card to get the best price. Just run in the store and put a couple hundred on a gift card. No special gas cards necessary. Just your normal credit card. Good luck have a nice trip.

I usually get Shell GC's and have never had a problem finding one on I95.

I wouldn't buy gas cards, for the simple reason that there are so many different brands as you travel south that we don't have here in New England. My experience was that there would often be two or three gas stations in the same intersection, often with wildly different prices. I would hate to pull up and have a card for station A, but see Station B across the street for 10 ¢ a gallon less. If you really want to do a prepaid card, get one of those preloaded M/C or Visas instead, then you have the option for any gas station that has a better price.

Gasbuddy.com has a cool travel tool. Put in your starting point and end point, the make and model of you car and it will calculated how much gas it will take & when you need/should stop for gas. it tells you what gas stations are located near the exit ramps and what the cost of gas is at each of those stations and how much the total cost it will be to fill your tank at that station.

I agree.

We just drove in April. We used iexit on the iPhone and could see what was off each exit-food, gas, hotels.

One shell station may be the ritz and the other I wouldn't want to step foot in!

We tried to use the TAs and pilots but they were all not so great either.

Put money aside for gas vs gas cards.

South Carolina has much cheaper gas than NC and GA. Here in NC there is an abundance of BP stations.

Keep your eyes peeled for "Flying J" truck stops.

In our experience along 95 they usually and consistently have the lowest gas prices.

That used to be the best place, but no more (well, not 6/2012 and 12/2012 anyway).

What happened to the gas prices in GA? I avoid it like the plague now.

It really depends on where you are in GA when you are getting gas. You must have stopped at a higher station/exit. I would avoid exit 76 in GA but 3 and 29 are still good in GA. Like a PP said, if you fill up at exit 3, you should make it to WDW in most vehicles. Then fill up at the Hess stations on property as they are cheaper than off property. You can then get back to exit 3 and start all over on your way home. :thumbsup2

No, because we always got gas at the exit 3 gas station. And it was quite a bit higher than in SC.
Again, this was just 2 times in 2012. Perhaps it was just a coincidence.

I agree with the idea of getting Visa cards rather than gas cards. There are so many different types on the ride down south. also, some close at night and if you drive through the night you might not find the type you need.
One big hint though, exits down south are fewer than here up north. Here in CT we might have 6 exits in the same town, but down south they are miles apart. Don't let your tank get to the red before looking for a station. I usually drive down during the night and it is scary to have 3 kids under 12 in the car and have the tank go down to red when the sign says "next exit 27 miles"

Well we just made the I95 south trek (last night and today).

Florence SC came it the least expensive at $3.17 average.

Exit 3 in GA came it at $3.37 average.

Exit 1 in GA was $3.29.

Here at Disney I think it is about the price it was at exit 3 in GA, in some cases a little lower.

I love my Gas Buddy App!

No, prepaid Visa/MC/AmEx is not a good option -- the fine print on those cards clearly says "cannot use at gas stations".

That's what I was going to say! :thumbsup2

Also, keep in mind when you charge something on them, some places will hold a larger amount than what was charged and you might not have acess to the full amount you have left on the card for a day or two. This happened to us when we used one to pay for our hotel on the way down to Disney. It took days before the full amount was released.

We used cash I had set aside. I had heard about scanners at some gas stations that can read your card and steal your information. I just felt safer paying cash. (We drove during the day)

You might not be able to use them at the pumps, but you should be able to pre-pay inside before pumping. I got a promotional gift card from Bright House ($100 prepaid credit card), and had no problem using the last $5 and change at the gas station. I knew it would be impossible to use it all at a store, so I prepaid the amount remaining on the card. Worked out perfectly.

If you pay at the pump, they can ping the account for a penny to a hundred dollars till the transaction goes through. I think here in Texas they only ping for a $1 but in California it's like $75.

I like Hess, Mobile, RaceTrac, QuickTrip, and Murphy for Florida traveling. Shell, BP, and Chevron are also common in the SE but I find them to be a few cents higher than the others.
