Actually, the "best" combination is a gas cooktop with electric ovens. Gas performs better and has more precise control than electric for stovetop use because electric elements take a while to cool off... with gas you can immediately control the amount of heat you are throwing at something. Electric ovens maintain much more even heating than gas ovens do. If you don't want to go for separate cooktop and wall ovens, they also make "duel fuel" ranges which have a gas cooktop and electric oven all in a standard 30" range. You can have the best of both worlds!
No matter WHAT you do, it will be CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP to wire and plumb for BOTH gas and electric. This way if you find you hate one or the other it will be a matter of switching out the appliance and not rewiring/replumbing your kitchen.
