Ok, I have two questions about gas logs. We moved into this house last summer and right before Christmas got new gas log set. The grate that holds up the logs has turned white from the flames. I don't like the look and called the company who installed it and they said that always happens and to just live with it. Is this true? I have never heard of that happening before and I have seen other peoples grates with gas logs and theirs are black. Is this guy just telling me a story to get out of doing something about it or is he correct?

And I have never had gas logs before this house. With gas prices so expensive, is it expensive to have a fire going?

Thanks!

We had a gas fireplace put in when we built our house about 8 years ago. It might be a little different because our logs were part of the fireplace, but our grate is still black and the logs/grate still look the same as when they were installed. We use it at least once a week in the winter and fall.

Not normal. Defeats the whole purpose of the look and I would try and get new ones.
