Garmin recommendations

I would like to buy a Garmin watch that has GPS to track my distance/time/pace.

I don't care about the heart rate monitor, I hate wearing that strap around my chest. As long as you are just looking to time your pace and distance you are only wearing the watch, right?

I always heard running was a cheap sport but with all of the local 5ks I've paid to enter, the UA clothes, running sneakers, Disney trip to run the TOT run, it is all starting to add up.

I would like something under $200. Can anyone recommend one? There are so many it is overwhelming.

I just got the Garmin Forerunner 210 and am really happy with it. It tracks time, distance and current pace - and you can upload your run data to their website to see more detailed info on your splits and route, elevation, calories burned, etc. I know it can do a lot more as well but this is how I am using it so far (I've only done 3 runs with it so far). I got mine brand new on eBay and it was less expensive than a sports store. Good luck!

When I bought my GPS watch 2 years ago the choice was easy. I bought a Garmin 305 and I've been very pleased with it. Unfortunately Garmin discontinued the 205/305. If I had to replace my watch now, I'm not sure what I'd buy. That being said, you may want to look at http://www.dcrainmaker.com/ . He has in depth reviews of all of the GPS watches. Finding the right watch in that price range is going to mean setting up your priorities.

I have run with the 305 for years now. I recently purchased a 405 with a HR monitor for under $160. I know the 405 hasn't had many fans with its bezel and auto flipping issues while running. I figure for the discounted price it was worth giving it a try; I plan on locking the screen on distance/time/pace when running. That's really the only data I presently use with my 305.

Just so you know, various Garmin Forerunners are on sale at Amazon as part of a Mothers Day promotion. The 405CX, 110, 405 water resistant, 205 and green 405 are all between $150 - $199. The 110 without the HRM is $157.

I'm interested in a Garmin too; what about those of us with very very tiny wrists? I have to have watches and bracelets custom-fitted; my wrist is very small. Anyone have a recommendation in that case?

From what I have read the Forerunner 405CX would be the best choice because it comes with some additional wrist straps. You should be able to go to a local running store or sporting goods store and try it first just to be sure.

Great info...I was going to ask a similar question so I'm glad I found this thread. Definitely checking out Amazon for the mother's day sale. Happy training to my fellow Disney runners! :)

I have the Forerunner 210 and love it. I have small wrists too and it can be made small enough. It is kinda clunky but it is comfortable enough. I just figured out that I can set it for intervals if you use them. My only problem is I run with my iPod so I wouldn't hear it. Would be great if it vibrated.
