To final touch your tree?

We use garland, have been since we got married. I'd love to try beads, ribbons or something different this year, but DH doesn't want to break the tradition.

So...what do you use, and what colors? Our garland is a combination of silver and gold.

All of the above. The girls can't seem to not put something on the tree.

this year: garland, beads and candy cane
last year: garland, beads, bows, and candy cane.

Didn't feel like overcrowding the tree with ribbons and bows this year.

None.... Lights and ornaments..... that's it.

Growing up we used tinsel and when the kids are older, if we dont have a family pet that could get hurt, we will use tinsel again.

I havent really considered useing garland or beads.... as I look at the Christmas tree thread, I am warming up to the idea.

A few yrs ago I changed from garland to gold beads and love it! I'm from the old world and also love tinsel...the kids always remind me to go lightly....LOL. Past 2 yrs I've draped a R,W,B and yellow ribbon around our Angel topper for the soldiers ^i^.

Last yr after my dear Dad passed, the grands did Gma's tree for her. They themed it in just white lights, gold angels and sparkly burgundy balls. It was absolutely beautiful!!!

I used to use tinsel when my son was little. Now I have some beaded/snopw flake gold garland on one tree. On the Mickey tree I will have the Mickey garland (gold hearts and Mickey heads) and gold beads and red beads.

Even tho it's a health hazzard, I wish lead tinsel was still made, it works so much better than the stuff they make now.

I use that shiny garland on my stair railing, never on the tree.

I use only the lights and ornaments. I have so many ornaments the garland would cover them. I do like the way the beads look, but I always forget to try it. Maybe next year, our tree and ornaments are all up.

Just ribbon, bows actually. I'm just not a fan of the other stuff. Oh, I do stick stems of berries in my tree too.

I use silver beads.

my mom does ribbon and picks of "frosted" fruits...it truely looks like it belongs in a department store it's so perfect!

None of that ever looks good for me. So I stopped trying to use it. Just lights and ornaments for me.
Sometimes I use bows or candy canes.

We use "chain" garland. It looks like those paper chains you made as a kid, but is smaller and is made from metallic cardboard. It gives the tree a special look and I love it. Sometimes we use regular garland, and sometimes we use beads - really all depends on what the "feel" is that year.

We use marron beads and bows.

I'm curious. We have a kitty and although he hasn't bothered the tree yet, what is the hazzard of tinsel to animals?

We've neve used anything but ornaments and lights until this year. DD4 wanted to use tinsel and we just put it on the tree last night. Now you have me worried. :confused3

Growing up, we always used tinsel garland at my parents'. DH and I don't use it because of the cat (he's a chewer - especially shiny, ribbony things). Since then, we have tried ribbons (wound around the tree - looked terrible), snowflake garland (cheap - kept breaking), and have finally settled on silver beaded garland.

If I'm reading some of these posts correctly, I see that some of you put the garland on last. We do the opposite - lights and garland on first, then all the ornaments. Tree trimming methods and traditions are so interesting.
