So my daughter will be 12 when we go in March and my husband is actually the one that wants to do one character meal! We are staying at the Yacht Club (only 3 nights - 4 full days though) and decided to book Cape May Breakfast. We got a good time - 7:30am and planning on doing to Hollywood Studios after. Should work out well. We ate there last time and was one of the better character meals. It will be super easy to get to also. I hate to pay the price though since my daughter is considered an adult by Disney. She doesn't eat like an adult! Anyways, I just noticed that the Garden Grove also does a character breakfast on the weekends. Is that a buffet only option, or can we order off the menu on the weekend for breakfast? Also, what characters are there. I couldn't seem to get a list. Some said Chip n Dale and others said Goofy and Pluto. I can't seem to get reservations though. Is that something I should worry about? Do they open up? We are looking for very early March.

Any thoughts on Garden Grove breakfast vs. Cape May?

Thanks!!

Anyone? Any feedback would be super helpful. Still no luck with Garden Grove and thinking it might be fun and different than Cape May. Thanks :-)

We went in Oct. We always stay at the Swan. The breakfast is first come, first serve no reservations. You usually dont have to wait more than 15 minutes.

They have a menu you can order off of but we always do the buffet. We pick that because they have a great chef made to order omelet station.

We had our adult ds with us but were going for the food not the characters. I think Goofy and Pluto were there. We got there after 10 am I think. We only had Goofy stop at our table and Pluto never even showed up. I do know that more towards 11 the characters stop coming around. If you are there earlier it shouldnt be a problem. I know we have seen Chip and Dale too. I think they alternate days? I really cant remember.

This is not on the disney dining plan so you would have to pay out of pocket. I did notice that the characters spend a lot of time with the kids, the adults not so much. Also sometimes the servers disappear so make sure you order what you want. It took forever just to get some butter last time. That is not on the buffet, you have to ask for it.

We actually prefer Garden Grove over Cape May. The food is much better and, if you have a AAA card, you can get 20% off which is great when you are paying Disney prices! As luvmarypoppins said, it's walk-ups only, but we've never had much of a wait. I've seen Goofy, Pluto and Chip and Dale there, but, as PP noted, I think Chip/Dale and Pluto alternate days.

Thanks you so much! I will see when I would have to cancel my Cape May reservation, but sounds like its worth trying Garden Grove instead!! We would probably try and get there around 7:30 am as we are going to DHS after breakfast for the day. We are staying at Yacht Club (only 3 nights) and hopefully not too bad of a walk to there. Any comment on how bad the walk is from Yacht Club to Swan? Walkable? I am not a big fan of buffets, so would probably enjoy ordering off the regular menu if that is an option on the weekends.

I had no idea it was only walk ups for breakfast.

Its very walkable. I use a wheelchair like a walker most of the time and we did it before when we were at the YC too. If it is raining though the area by the Swan gets a little slippery so just walk slowly.

We will be at the Swan again in about 2 1/2 weeks and we will do the buffet one day, prob our last day which is a sat. so it will be character day. We have a tiw card and they take that but I think they said they dont do the ap discount.

Is the not taking reservations new? Because every time we've eaten there, we've made a reservation through the Swan and Dolphin dining phone number.

We've always had good service and good character interaction here, and good food as well. We've done breakfast and dinner a few times. I used to love Mediterranean night, but unless something has changed, they've stopped it.

I agree with PP that we found it a much better value than Cape May.

Did this a few years ago and the character interaction was limited (Pluto only) when we went. But Pluto did stop at every table (it wasn't crowded) and the food was better than most Disney locations.
This place also gives a discount to DVC members. Be sure to ask at any restaurant for a discount if you are DVC, Annual Passholder or Disney Visa holder.
