Garden Grocer Expiration Problems

I have used GG a couple of times and have been pleased - this time we are ordering a large order, like $500 worth, for a 8 night stay for 7 people.

We will still end up eating out once a day for most days but wanted to cover water, adult bevvies, snacks, bfasts, some lunch things and 3-4 dinners worth of food. I figure on a couple of days we will do a bfast outing (CP is my fave, and I want to try AK's Restaurantsaurus), and on those days we will cook dinner, and then the reverse when we have bfast in the villa we will most likely do a lunch or dinner out.

So my issue is since it is such a large order, and they do split the tip 3 ways (they don't ask for 3 tips, they just want you to be aware that your tip just doesn't go to the delivery driver), what would be an appropriate amount? If I do the 15-20% it would be almost $100! :scared1:

I was thinking $30....am I cheap?

IMO a tip is for exceptional service, not an additional payment to people doing the job that they are paid to do.

Tipping is out of control, just because a company tells you that tips are shared by 3 people, does not put pressure on me to give any tip.

We also rent a car for the day and it is cheaper than paying the fees, markups and tips that the delivery companies want and if Bell Services gets involved, there is another tip. :scared1:

You have convinced me Bill! I'm not entirely pleased at the idea of taking the time out to do this while there BUT if it saves a lot of money, I get to pick out the stuff myself and comparison shop, and I can do it while everyone else is unpacking, then its a win/win! Besides, then I am not pressured to buy so much at once and can go back to replenish if we need/want to. I think its only about $20 each way via cab if I read the threads correctly. There will be quite a lot of groceries so I will order the water and adult beverages from GG so the bulky things can be delivered.

We don't commando anymore and taking a couple of hours away from the parks is no big deal.

We usually eat on-site the night of arrival and shop on day 2. On day 2 we get the car, eat a good, less expensive meal off-site, stop by the Disney stores, and shop for food and anything that we forgot to bring from home.
We order Publix fried chicken and maybe a party tray.

If we have more than we can carry, we have Bell Services take everything to our room and if they do a good job, they get a tip.

Our last car rental in March was $32 plus a couple gallons of gas. We always use Alamo at the Dolphin.

Was it the delivery guy who asked you for the triple tip? If so I would call and complain to the owner, because that is not normal procedure.

Actually it appears to be standard procedure now. I just placed an order for my upcoming trip. It lists the delivery charge AND mentions that three people share the tip. They even give you an "example" of a tip that could be shared three ways. It says (ex. $12). Thought that was a bit brazen, but we had a good experience with them last year so I decided to try again this time.

It is a lot cheaper for a big order like yours to just get a cab and buy it yourself, but I just want to let you know in case you didn't that you can set up your order with Garden Grocer so that they will deliver some of the order on your arrival day and some on another day mid-vacation, and they will only charge 1 delivery charge. As far as convenience, I think that's a great service! It really just depends on whether time is more important to you or saving money.

by the time you pay for the cab rides or tip, a small rental car might be less expensive. you didn't say where you are staying, but if it is OKW (as in your sig), you can park by your unit to bring a your groceries in (even if at a resort with a separate parking lot, you've enough people that it wouldn't be that time-consuming to bring the groceries to your villa, even bulky items like water). or you could use bell services to bring the items to the room.
you would also have a car for any "i forgot" items (toiletries, medications (there's a walgreens nearby), sunscreen, more sunscreen , etc), as well as replenishment for shorter lifespan items such as milk, eggs, luncheon meats, etc.
the outlets are close also, if you have an urge to shop.

just an option to consider :)

I'm beginning to wish I hadn't bothered with garden grocer myself. They have just delivered our August order to SSR last night!! And so far are not responding to emails asking the to sort it out.

Edited to say they sorted this out for us with no fuss.

I've used GG many times and will continue to do so. We have never had a problem with any of our food including milk. We dont have a problem with leaving a tip at online checkout either. They are just letting you know who the tip will go to in case you were wondering. I don't recall them requesting I tip anyone let alone 3 people? It's a spot I can fill in or leave blank that's all.

We have NEVER had issues with GG in the multiple times we've used them. 3 tips? Seems odd. I know on the website there is a spot for a tip and a suggestion I think...call them, they do have GREAT (almost like Disney) customer service.

We use WeGoShop and never had a problem but I just wonder at the expense - charged a fee for shopping plus tip. All we're trying to avoid is paying $60 for a case of coors light ($15/6 pk in WDW or $4/bottle). Still think hoofing it to the Hess and carrying it back is the best deal but DH won't walk because he's embarrassed to carry back the beer. :confused3

Now I am wondering if the taxi isn't the better way to go $30/case + $20 taxi (includes tip) so I'm still $10 to the good :faint:

Bur or bring along one of those canvas reusable bags that many use for groceries. No one except the check out person has to know what he is carrying in the bag, lol. Mine hold an entire bag of groceries and fold flat.

We always empty out one of wheeled suitcases and take it to the Hess. Water, soda, and beer all fit and it's a LOT easier to carry back. I suspect people do it all the time because they didn't blink an eye when we walked in with the suitcase. :thumbsup2
