We are moving soon and we will be having a huge garage sale. I have a question though, we are sellig our white side by side refrigerator because our new house has black appliances. Would you put the refrigerator on the drive way so people know its available. I want people to know it works great but I don't think I really want people coming in my house to see it, especially because there is a chance I might be by myself with my 2 boys holding the sale. What is your recommendation? Also it is a 10 year old white side by side with ice and water in the door. It works great we are only selling because of color-what would you sell it for? I am hoping $350-$400.

I don't know that I would want to drag it out front and then back again if it doesn't sell. Is $400 for a 10yo fridge really what they are selling for? That's alot of money.

but having it in the garage is fine (personally I do pull big things out on the driveway, but we have several tables in the garage, so I would leave fridge in garage w/ sign on it...plugged in to show it works)

I agree w/ OP...you are asking WAY too much. I have done MANY garage sales, and attended many as well. I would say $150, MAYBE $175 would be the most you will get. Be prepared to bargain...but NOT at the beginning of your sale.

I imagine you are disappointed that we feel your price expectations are too high. BUT you will be FAR more disappointed if your sale is over and you still have that fridge on your hands!!!!

(BUT personally, I LOVE having an extra fridge. We put pop/beer in it, and it is great to have the extra freezer space when there are good sales at the store!
PS If possible do NOT put extra fridges in garages...the temp changes aren't good for them; killer on the fridge and electric bills. Ours is in our basement)

We already have an extra fridge in the garage. The reason I felt this was a fair price is that you can buy a fridge for $450 that is like the one we have in the garage already (freezer on top, no ice maker, much smaller). So I thought this had more to offer for the same price-yes I know it is still 10 years old but refrigerators usually have a long life span. Thanks for the input. Unfortunately, we are in Oklahoma City, no basements around here so our extra fridge has to be in the garage.

since you may be by yourself on the day of the garage sale, I recommend listing your garagesale on craigslist.org in the ad, you can state that you have the refridgerator for sale and to call if they want to come by before the sale to check it out. Also list the fridge under the household section as well. I had a garage sale 2 weeks ago & did great on sales even before the day of my sale because I listed my ph# for people to call & come over before the sale. During the sale, if you are able to get someone to be there with you, keep mentioning that you have the fridge for sale when you have groups of people there, also put up a sign stating you have it for sale & tape it to a table or maybe make a big poster & hang it from the garage.
ITA that expecting $400 is not likely. Even though it may be fancier than just the basic fridge, it is 10 years old, out of warranty & probably not very contemporary looking as the styles seem to change from time to time. I personally would be afraid of shelling out $400 and 6 months later it clunks out. Right now you can get a brand new 25.1ct ft side by side water/ice dispensor on door Kennmore for $750 and several others from Sears for less than $1000.

You can typically figure selling used items for about 10-25% of what you actually paid for the item, especially if the item is 10 years old. That being said, I'm still trying to sell my 6 yr old big screen tv for the past 3 weeks with no takers. People are just afraid of shelling out several hundred dollars with no guarantee that what they buy will still work in a couple months.

I'd hesitate to pay $100 for it. You can often find people giving large appliances away to get rid of them. We have an extra fridge that a neighbor gave us for free just so we'd move it away.

Check out craigslist.com for what they are going for. Look under your closest city and then under household. I think $100-$150 is probably what you're going to find they're going for, but good luck.

I Agree With Others That $450 Is Most Likely Not Gonna Happen. I Used To Work For A Used Appliance Business And $150 Is About Max Even For One As Nice As You Are Describing.

Good Luck With Your Sale!!

I could not sell a 10 year old side by side for $75 on Craigslist or anyplace. I finally listed it as FREE just to get rid of it! (It did go away then LOL!)

Well, I appreciate everyone's help! There is a chance that the fridge will be put into the contract on the sell of our house so it may not be an issue anyway. I love going to gargae sales but it is so disappointing that people just want you to give things away. I do dread the bargaining. You mark somthing perfectly good for $1.00 and someone says I'll give a dime, then you agree and they pull out a wad of bills for you to break a $20 for it!! It wears me out.

This is exactly why I don't do garage sales. I did one and ended up not selling any of the big baby items because people were nickel and diming me too much. I ended up donating them and taking a tax deduction. To me the few hundred dollars I might make isn't worth the time and aggrevation.

I would keep the 2nd fridge-you will save so much $$$ by stockpiling it would be worth moving it. We moved in Nov. I kept my old fridge as a second and donated an older one the previous owners left in the basement. We gave it to the fire dept who gladly picked it up and gave us a letter for our taxes.

That is what I was going to suggest you do, include it with the house. We did that with our last one even though it was an awesome and fairly new fridge, we just didn't want to lug it across the country.
