Hi there
They are allowed but not during take off and landings. The crew will let you know when to turn them off and when its safe to turn them back on.

I would not survive the plane ride if my DS could not play game boy!!!!!! We even bring it in the parks so when we are waiting in lines he can play..

I know I am not mother of the year!!!!

We have never had a problem with the kids using their Gameboys. Just remember to bring extra batteries. We used a few packages on our trip to Europe - 3 hours waiting at the airport and 7 hours in the plane = many dead batteries. The girls now have the Gameboy XP's that do not use batteries but have to be recharged - so we will see how long they last when we head out on our Jan. trip.

Nope, no problem, just keep them turned off when instructed to do so during take off and landing.

On the batteries, my sons have GBA's, but not the new kind (the square sort of ones when folded up); with a pair of PowerEx rechargeable batteries, 1800 mAh, they can get about 15 hours of playing time. We carry the charger with us (our digital and video cameras use the same size, so it is practical), and it is fast enough actually to work in an airport layover if need be :D Here's basically what we have: http://www.mahaenergy.com/store/viewitem.asp?idproduct=353

These are in fact longer lasting batteries than the ones we have. I don't know why the PowerEx's seem to hold their charge longer than a comparable other brand (same mAh), but they do.

Hello!

I have to say, we would not make it on long dinners or trips or car rides without Sony.

The gameboy XP is what my nieces and nephews have, and keeps them quiet and occupied wherever we go when they start to "wiggle".

I even have my own gameboy XP (Im 29!) and linking cable so I can link up with them and play against them if one of them wishes so, I usually sleep or read on planes tho.

I don't know what we would do without them. We are travelling with 3 5 year old triplets, and their 8 year old neice. I can't wait. What a magical time we will have!

In our past experience, the airline crew only asks they be turned off for takeoff and landing, just like the other electronic devices.

We were so planning on bringing the Game Boy as well as the Video Now (gotta love that!) So that is good to know!

Ya know, Gameboys can make planes crash --- NOT. If everyone on the plane had an electronic device or two on during takeoff and landing, the plane would continue to function normally. If not terrorists would be bringing bags of electronics onto planes in thier carryons and have them all turned on.

The reason for turning off your electronic equipment is for everyones safety in case of an emergency during takeoffs and landings (when most problems can occure) so you can quickly evacuate the aircraft and not be distracted by your pc, game or movie.

We took them on the plane..just shut them off with the cell phones when instructed. Kids used them on the flight with no problem. I did make a rule that no gameboy was allowed on the ship and everyone co-operated. I wanted them to do things they couldn't do at home! ::MickeyMo

My DD takes hers all the time. They have be turned off, along with CD players, cells phones, etc., during take off and landings because they mess with the signals.

However, be aware that my DD got pulled out of line and her backpack searched because the plug in nightlight that you can buy for the Gameboy looks like a corkscrew on the screening machine. They laughed when they saw what it was and that was it. No problems.

Yeah, I never take a flight without my DD's Gameboy. In fact, they come in handy during long boring meetings at work too.

In theory, electronic equipment such as GB's, laptops etc could emit electronic "noise" which might interfere with other electronics, such as the plane's avionics. In reality, the chance of that happening is so remote, it's ridiculous. Plus the units themselves have to pass certain FCC standards for noise emission anyway. They only restrict use during takeoff and landing, which is when a hiccup in avionics could be more catastrophic.

By all means bring them on the plane. Just obey the rules. Nothing will happen if you ignore them...but why take that chance?
