I've been looking into DVC for about 7 or 8 months. Basically, ever since we got back from our WDW trip last Sept. WL is our home away from home. So I'm kinda interested in VWL. The delima I have is if I buy a VWL the ownership is up in 2042, right ? Now for the same amout of $ I can get the SSR. I understand that if I do the SSR and want to stay at VWL, I can only make ressie 7 months in advance. My logic is for the same amount of $, I can have ownership for 10 years more. What do ya think ?

Sounds like you understand it pretty well. Now you have to decide if you want to own where you want to stay, or if you will be flexible and stay elsewhere when necessary.

Ultimately, it's a personal choice. But yes, you understand the length of the contracts. There are more things to consider, though..including price, maintenance fees, current promotions, etc when deciding to purchase. You also have the choice of buying from Disney or using a reseller - like The Timeshare Store.

Lots of people here who can offer specific opinions. You've found the right place to ask questions.

VWL being the smallest DVC resort is one of the hardest to book at 7 months, but not impossible. If you would be happy staying at other DVC resorts, including SSR, when VWL is not available, and if[/i] you are young enough that those extra 12 years will be of value to you, then go with SSR.

If, on the other hand, your main desire is to stay at VWL, and you would feel disappointed if you had to stay at the other DVC resorts, then purchase VWL for the priority booking window.

What you need to consider is that as there are more members it will be harder to get the smaller resorts at the 7 month window. You need to weigh that against the lower dues at SSR and the longer contract. Good luck in your decision.

This is exactly how my family feels about WL, so we bought at VWL. I think that if WL/VWL holds as much allure for you and your family as it does for mine, that you probably would be "disappointed" if you weren't able to book there as often as you'd like.

Booking at the 7 month window is certainly possible, but since VWL is the smallest DVC resort, it can fill up relatively quickly especially during peak times.

I'd advise going into the resale market and purchasing VWL if you really feel "at home" at WL. If resort choice is not as critical to you, then SSR with its additional 12 years might be a better choice. At my age, I probably won't see those extra 12 years anyway so it wasn't that hard a decision for me. :)

Good luck...and keep asking questions! :thumbsup2

Granny is right. Unless you are in your 20's, VWL will be the best purchase if you plan on wanting to stay there most. You can always add on at SSR if you think the extra 12 years are important to you. Like Granny, I'll not likely be around by then anyway!

The other thing to consider is whether your trips will be booked 8+ months in advance. If not then it really doesn't matter where you own.

First off...I'm not plannin' on being around in 2042 anyway so that's an issue for my DD's to worry about.

Secondly, I just booked 6 nights for a co-worker of mine at VWL for the week after Thanksgiving and just b/4 the 7 month window. I got one of the last rooms available and the week after that is booked solid ...no availability for any type room...and that's b/4 the 7 month window has opened.

In my case the additional 10 years is not worth anything and knowing that availibility is tight at VWL at the 7 month window, I would not even consider SSR.

As the saying goes, "buy where you want to stay."

If you want VWL, I'd still buy there. Of course you could buy both with less points each place and moderate the issues. That way part of your points would continue and part would give you an in at VWL.

Just one opinion here, but we bought last year at BWV based on the "buy where you want to stay" theory, and are quite happy. There is no doubt that the math is compelling to buy at SSR. However, we believe that DVC will continue to expand, and we can "leapfrog" SSR and buy at the next resort (whatever/whenever that is) while enjoying the preferred reservation window at an Epcot resort.

Clearly, that is "betting on the come." If it doesn't materialize, then I'll have to just suffer through the next 36 years at the BWV.
