Gambling On Contemporary Dvc

Many (myself included) believe that as soon as CRV is announced, the bottom will fall out of the market for BCV and BWV. While those two resorts certainly have their own appeal, the single greatest factor driving their popularity appears to be proximity to the theme parks. Well, if CRV comes to pass, it will also have the benefit of close theme park proximity PLUS 19 more years of ownership.

Now that the precedent has been set with OKW, isn't it likely that DVC could offer an extension on the other DVC I resorts? If the prices do fall significantly, could Disney ROFR a bunch of points and then resell them at the higher price with the extra years?

Just wondering as we are also considering our first purchase. We love BWV, but I can't see us buying points that expire 15 years earlier for similar up-front costs. We are in our twenties... We have been waiting for CRV, but I can't see paying for any more trips while we continue to wait without even knowing the details. At this point, we're leaning towards purchasing at AKV and considering an add-on at CRV when it's announced.

That's a great plan. Or just buy resale for a smaller number of points (<160 minimum with DVC) and then add on CRV.

Or you could buy 2 smaller AKV contracts to equal the 160 point initial buy-in, then somewhere down the road sell one of them.

The iinitial purchase would have to be one 160 pt master contract. To the pp, it is not known if DVC will follow the OKW precedent.

Have you taken the tour? Check out the SSr and AKV models, you might like one of them. AKV does look like it is going to be an excellent resort.

Are there any plans for a pool complex or other stuff to be part of the new Contemporary?

there is a pool shaped like Mickey - but don't think it is pool park or anything. this is in the middle of the C. there is also a BIG hot tub.:goodvibes Jerry though it was a second pool. this is between CRV and the main pool of CR.

wish I felt as strongly as some posters that CRV was going to happen.

DVC has changed it mind in the past too many times.

when they start selling CRV it is a done deal - until then :confused3 no guarantees

been waiting for a DVC monrail hotel for 15 years - sure do hope this is it!!!

You make good points, but I have heard that it can be quite difficult to gat a reservationat the beach villas inside the 7 month window. i would have a much bettr chance with 11 months as a home resort. yes I could buy resale at the beach but the current incentive is hard to pass. They are giving me $8
off per point ($1280) 160 2007points, 160 2008 points this year and a bonus 160 developer points (I have to use these by 11/08).

I got a week in late July at BCV with no problem at the like 6 month window.

I like to play Private Investigator when I am board so I did some snooping/googling. Here is what I found. In 2004 disney had to file plans for CRV with the local water and utility company. These plans wich included blue prints were filed to get work permits. I saw copies of the plans and while no mention of DVC were made the proof was in the pudding. You could clearly see kitchens, washer and dryers and extra large tubs (jucuzzis). I am sure no one is surprised by this and I fully understand from a business perspective that announcing CRV would slow current purchases as some would opt to wait for the new resort. I made my decission and bought at AKV yesterday. The current incentives were tough to pass. Yes I would have liked to by CRV but who knows where it will be priced and what it will look like. All of our home resorts are amazing and thre will always be bigger but not necessarily better resorts comming in the future. I am sure none of us got into this in hopes of making a profit. And so what if "The bottom falls out" of certain resorts, ask yourself if the prices of my points went up would I sell. I guess not, so who cares if they go down. We are in this for another 40 to 50 years, welcome the new DVC's as a great new place to visit and not as, "I wish I had bought that one instead".

Maybe CRV will not even be CRV but just CR with suites?? VERY PRICEY SUITES.

Congratulations! I think it was a wise decision - you are right, you don't know how much CRV will run! Welcome home!

I see a lot of responses addressing the fact that some of the DVC are close to a particular theme park. Since I live in Georgia, I will also drive down so I will have a car available to me. Is the location issue important because many people fly in and do not have access to a car? Do people who have a car really care how close the resort is to a theme park?

Oh, you can tell your new here! :rotfl2:

To some, being next to a park is the only option. Anything else is off-site.

To me, there is no magic resort that has it all. All of the resorts have one short coming or another. To me, just being in WDW is good enough. The Disney transportation will get me to where I want go.

The "close to a park issue" jut means you can walk from the park exit to your resort room at the end of the day. If you are at the beach villas you tke a short walk along the water and you are at an entrance to EPCOT. No bus, no monorail, no boat. Its a matter of conveinience. The CRV would enable you to walk to the MK.

If you end your day, every day at Epcot. What about the other 3 theme parks, 2 water parks and DTD?

But is that walk from EPCOT to BCV shorter than walking to the bus to take you out to the parking lot to get into your car?

Funny, If I was at SSR and "someone" was staying at BWV. We both were going to Test Track at Epcot. Who walks further to get there? How much time difference is it really?

What about the same two people going to Magic Kingdom. Who gets there first, how long does it take to get around WDW?

Over a length of a trip, its all equal.

That helps, but my question is whether most of the discussion is for those people who do not have a car and must take a bus.

If you had a car with you, would you care as much where you stayed?????

Just to clarify, you are at the WS entrance to Epcot. Future World is still a hike away. We found the Epcot resorts to be convenient only to Epcot. The studios is still a long walk away, or a very slow boat ride. Everything else is by bus, which is often shared by BC, BCV, YC, BWI, BWV, Swan, Dolphin. That's 7 resorts the buses sometimes service in one trip! We love the BCV, but I don't consider the ability to walk to the back entrance of one park the main reason why.

When we stay at the Boardwalk we usually take the boat into the Studios. The critical thing with being able to walk into Epcot and the Studios however is that the timeline is under your control. There is no "what if we just missed the bus."

Its about a fifteen minute walk to Future World, or about a fifteen-twenty minute walk to the studios. We usually plan on it taking 40 minutes to get to AK or MK if we take the bus - if we get on the bus when it arrives, it isn't that long, but there is no guarentee the bus will be there when we want it.

A car would give you the same sort of flexibility, but we don't like to rent cars. Cabs give it as well, though cabs from SSR/OKW might be more difficult to catch if you weren't close to the main buildings.
