No, I don't think so, Doug. I believe they constantly test the waters, and when one doesn't work such as this event, they move on to the next a bit better informed. If they were to offer this a week before the opening of SWGE at DHS, and they charged $50 more, they'd likely sell out in hours. Greed knows no bounds.
I'm glad that both this and Reunion Station both flopped. The expensive fleecing of some of your best customers, and calling it "membership magic", is not a good business model.
However, I expect more of the same to continue. If Disney selects a 200-seat venue for an event, they only need to appeal to 200 members. Not every event/offering needs to be positioned to appeal to thousands of owners, pass holders or day guests. I've never attended any of these DVC paid meals or events, but I'm not offended by their presence. If someone else feels they're worthwhile, more power to 'em.
There was a timing issue in addition to monetary issue here...it was to be held a day or two before Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, which had a date down 8 months prior to the DVC announcement.
