I'm "just thinking" about a trip to California for late 2009 and going to Disneyland (for a change from WDW as we've done 4 trips in 3 years!!!).

I have to have plan very carefully and get things covered as my youngest son (13) is severely autistic - our trips are fine in WDW because we always get a GAC and are able to get the assistance we need.

Does Disneyland have the same criteria for a GAC there, and also what about Knotts Berry Farm and Six Flags, does anyone know???

I could not see us being able to go otherwise and will have to stick to WDW as all the parks are so accommodating there.

Thanks
Sharon

We were at DL last Jan. and our DS (6) is autistic. It was just like WDW and we did not have any problems with the GAC. I don't know what it is like with Knotts Berry farm because we just stayed on DLR the whole time. We have a six flag park here in Texas and it is probably the same policy as CA, but what they do here is give you a yellow booklet that you take to the handicapped entrance. There they fill out the book and give a time to come back for the ride so you don't have to wait in line. However, most of the time the just fill it out and let you on. Hope you have fun. We had a fun time there at DLR and what is nice is that the hotels are really close so you take necessary breaks.

Hi and :welcome: to both DisBoards and disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information.

Post #6 deals with the GAC. Basically they follow the same policies at DLR as they do at WDW. Post #14 will give some information about DisneyLand Resort.

There are also a couple of forums on DisBoards dealing with DisneyLand as well as other Southern California Theme Parks.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

We live in Northern California and visit Disneyland regularly. Our five year old son has autism. Yes, they use the GAC the same way at DLR as WDW.
And like a PP said you will be surprised just how close everything is - including the hotels. No buses needed! Very nice for mid-day breaks. The weather is also nicer - no humidity! :thumbsup2

Thank you for all your wonderful replies, I really appreciate it!!!:thumbsup2

At this very early stage of planning, everything seems rather daunting, I suppose I have gotten so confident with our holidays at WDW that it feels like I'm beginning from scratch again by going to California.

And one thing that I am looking forward to is the lack of humidity in California!!!

Again, many thanks:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I am glad someone asked this, because for some reason I thought it was different at DL. I even thought for DL, I needed a doctor's note. I would not even mind getting one. (18 year old son has down syndrome and autism, also uses a Convaid chair at the parks as a wheelchair).

I was at DL last month with my daughter on a Make a Wish trip, and saw the GAC type passes there. (We had the Make a Wish pass, so we were often taken before others waiting with the standard passes.) The Oct trip I will only have the son. (I could not handle him on the MAW trip without his care taking over the entire trip, which needed to be about my daughter).
