FYI - There is NO GAS in Metro Atlanta

but, that just doesnt make any sense. with me being up north they have to ship this gas to us. one would think the closer you were to the refineries, the less it would cost:confused3 . shouldnt i be paying a small fee to get the gas to me?

I know...it doesn't make sense. But, imthatgirl...if you feel that bad...I'll send you my address and you can send a small fee to me! :lmao: :rotfl: I'll put it in my gas fund!

sorry, im not looking to pay more. nut i think everyone down there needs to start looking into this.

it seems fishy:confused:

I live north of Atlanta and all of our gas stations are out. I have a scooter that gets 100 mpg and I only live a mile from work so I could actually walk if I wanted to. People who have to commute to Atlanta for work are in panic mode. The OP wasn't exaggerating.

Hmmm...this post is ok to be in Theme Parks, but my post about gas prices in Orlando was moved to some nonsensical place last week. Weird.

I'm the OP - and I just tried to put the post in a place where it was most likely to get read by people about to leave.

The potential for families to get stranded due to the gas shortage as they are coming down 1-75/85 is very real and very immediate and I'd hate that to happen to anyone.

I live in a small town just outside of Chattanooga, TN but in GA and the only 2 stations here are out of gas today.

I live west of Nashville and you have to look long and hard to find gas. When you do find it you will have a wait. Hope it gets better soon.

Funny, I just read on CNN that a rumor about gas stations in Nashville actually caused panic in Nashville. Are you sure this isn't part of a similar rumor?
Here is the article:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/09/19/nashville.gas/index.html?iref=newssearch

I live right outside Nashville and it is true that 50% OF Nashville's stations are out of gas AND when they get gas their distributers are only allowing gas stations 1/2 of their normal gas orders.

In my little local area outside of Nashville - we are at about 4.20 a gallon

My brother also lives in the Atlanta (Cumming) and he returned home from Disney yesturday and he DID say that they had a hard time finding gas, once inside the metro area - I think it is probably where you live/travel through.

I think that the original poster was not wrong in alerting people to just know that there might be a problem and to be aware of it as you are entering the Metro Atlanta Area. I am sure they were not trying to start a panic.

Oh I'm not saying it's in the wrong place at all. I truly believe it's in the correct place. My post was doing the same thing. After Ike struck, our gas prices spiked dramatically. I posted here to warn people so they could be prepared for higher prices. Apparently the Mod thought I just wanted to discuss gas prices and moved it. They try to keep all non-Disney planning material out of this section, he said, as if warning about gas prices in Orlando is not Disney planning. There's just some inconsistency going on.

That being said. Some friends are in Nashville right now in the hospital, the son in law has cancer and the mother in law is driving back and forth from Memphis to take care of their kids and they are very nervous about the gas situation in Murfreesboro, it's the same thing you described in Atlanta.

I didn't mean to imply that there was not a gas shortage in Nashville. I was just saying the article claimed the shortage was caused by panic. I was struck by the post regarding Atlanta since I had just read about Nashville. But what I am taking from the posts here this is happening in areas throughout the south?

I'd be pretty concerned if I were in these areas and I had to get to work in the morning. I would be really concerned if I were passing through these areas with my family.

About two days before Ike, I was looking for gas and came across a station that had it for .20less than the other stations in town.

The next day, four or five of the stations were out of gas.

I live in Brandon, about 45 minutes away from Orlando. It's been all over the news that we've been short on gas. I was hoping the situation would clear up before this weekend, but it doesn't look like it's getting any better.

What's going on? :confused3

Well.... I don't think the line at Walmart and the gas shortage are related.

The line was huge because that's a CHEAP price right now. Same deal at my local BJ's. No line at the Shell at $4.29 however LOL!

Actually the QT near me only has regular, no preimum at all.

Im assuming that the poster meant that Walmart has a gas station.

Its scary, we saw it first hand on the way home from FL this past week and we stopped many times outside of Nashville before we found gas.

up in my part of "atlanta", acworth has been going dry for a day or 2 at the most, at least at the qt that i always goto. the primary qt for our area probably goes out of gas every other 2 days or so i think. but as u get out of the city there seems to be alright supply, at least gauging from my trip i made up to chattanooga the other day

thats crazy because the price of gas is DROPPING here. it went down almost .20 in the last 2 days. it was at $3.32 when i got home this evening.

seems crazy you ahve no gas, and we're dropping.

It's dropping here in central Texas, too, so I'm really confused about what's going on.

WOW, where was it at $3.32??? That's a great price! I live in western MA and we are still at about $3.49 unless it just changed this evening.

This is somewhat off the course in the discussion, but does anyone have information along 95? Thanks for any help on this. We will be driving at the end of the week. Hope this all clears up shortly. We are in NJ and our gas is in the 3 30-3.45 for regular. I saw 3.60 for premium today as well.

Imthagirl, I think it's a mix of greedy station operators and the consumers fault for going into panic mode anytime they get word of a possible shortage. We went through the same thing last week in Savannah when Ike passed by. First it was the refineries that were going to be offline and possibly destroyed, so the prices jumped $1.20 in a day. Then it was the consumers thinking, "well if gas is so high, I need to get the best price I can and fill up everything I own", and thanks to that there was a shortage in the area making everyone fight at the stations that did have gas. And now we have talk of the pipeline having delivery problems so even though we are finally back down to $3.70/gal, I'm sure that it will jump right back up. It only took a few days to get gas back to the stations that were out but of course everyone freaked and now have a stockpile of gas at $1.20 more a gal than if they just would have bought it this week. GA has been on federal watch since the gouging last week but when everyone painc's and dries up every pump, they are allowed to charge more because they have the supply that no one else has. So, PEOPLE DON"T FILL UP UNLESS YOU NEED IT_ YOU'RE ADDING TO THE PROBLEM.

Moving this over to the Transportation Board... it's a better fit there.

Thanks.

Knox
