This will probably be boring to most, but for those who keep track of rules vs. what the system actually does, here is my story:

Background: I needed 57 additional points to complete my June 2008 reservation so I found a member on the rent/trade board with VWL points to transfer. I have a Dec UY. I will be using all my remaining 07 points and borrowing all 08 points for this reservation. (I know, time for an add-on, but my state won't let me buy here so it'll have to wait until our trip. )

Anyway, the transferred points were Feb 07 UY and the did retain their origianl UY from the transfer. No problem so far, the CM just said I needed to bank those points into the Feb 08 UY so I could use them in June 08. Here's the weird thing - when she banked them they went in to my Dec 08 UY and now MS is having a hard time booking the last night of my reservation. They are working on it and have been great - it's a system glitch and I understand that. I know it will all work out in the end, but I thought some might be interested in how the system is working.

Apparently transferred points retain their orginal UY unless you bank them and then they revert to your UY.

Thought it might help someone else avoid problems if they were aware of this. :thumbsup2

Thanks for letting us know - it never ceases to amaze me how complicated things can get when you are dealing with DVC reservations.

Thanks! We have friends who are fellow DVCers and may need to transfer points between us at sometime. This was great to know.

Not boring at all. For someone who is in the process of tranferring points for the first time and so far the process hasn't been very smooth, it is quite useful information. While I don't take any pleasure in your difficulties, it's comforting to know that others deal with the similar issues through MS with everything coming out for the best.

I started a points transfer last Wednesday (some of my 2008 Feb UY points into someone else's current inventory) and the points have yet (as of yesterday afternoon) to show up in the other member's inventory. I'll be doing my Monday morning call and hope I can get a hold of someone who can explain what is taking so long.

Thanks for your story and I hope things work out for the best. They certainly seem to be heading in that direction.

Regards,
Dan

I am working on a transfer-in of some Feb 08 points (My UY is Mar). I had read that points must be paid-up to be eligible for transfer, obviously not yet done for 08 points, unless by special arrangement with MS. The prospective supplier of these points has contacted MS and reports that they can transfer the points since his account is current.

I am concerned that I may become liable for the 08 dues on these points, or that if not paid by the supplier, any reservations made by me using them may be cancelled.

Does anyone have experience with this situation?

I didn't think you could bank transferred points? I presume both contracts (OP and transferred points) are VWL points, is that why OP was able to bank it?

Not only are transferred points bankable, the normal percentage restrictions and banking deadlines do not currently apply.

I just transferred some of my 2008 points out and it took a few days to be done manually, but they went through. Although the points are in your inventory, they are still paid for by the supplier, including dues etc. Depending on when you are taking the vacation, you shouldn't have a problem, although you are correct in the concern that ressies made with non-paid points can be canceled. The only question I would ask the supplier is how long they have been a member. Circumstances can change for anybody, but a long-time member isn't likely to "cut-and-run." Ask for a contract agreement for the transfer and if the supplier won't supply one, draw one up yourself stating what you expect to happen in the event of non-payment of dues. If the supplier is sincere, he or she wouldn't object to signing a contract.

No matter what, transfers and renting of points require a certain level of trust and if you don't feel comfortable with any aspect of a transaction, you are best to act on your instinct.

Best wishes to you with this concern.

Dan
