FYI for RCI Exchangers into DVC

So basically, this means that it is great to own at DVC if you love going there, which I do. Love Disney.
I think what this really shows is be careful in what you buy. I have seen far too many posts about folks picking up "cheap" timeshares to use to trade into DVC. The problem with that is what works today, may or may not work tomorrow. Some people did this with II traders and then were not happy when DVC left for RCI. DVC could (not saying they will, but could) up and leave RCI and go back to II. It could even be that eventually, DVC makes use of BVTC and just handles exchanges on it's own with other like systems (wouldn't that be great?).

Again, if you buy a timeshare, you should be willing to stay there (or in that system) for a majority of stays, or you could find yourself very disappointed.

Totally agree. If your primary reason for getting a timeshare is to go to Disney (on Disney property) then you should buy in the DVC system or you could end up with something that you are paying for and don't use.

My husband bought into RCI about 10 years ago he was a young single guy with money to spend and he really didn't know what he was buying. But, he got a good unit in a place that we actually like to visit and we have also had decent trading power so we are happy. RCI -> DVC is just a cool perk for us and we'll take advantage of it as long as we can, but that agreement can change at any moment. If it does, it will be a bummer but if we have to stay off-property in order to go to WDW then we certainly will in order to make good use of what we have available to us.

And....things have changed again. DVC resorts are now ranging from 22-36. 22 for studio, 32 for 1 bedroom, 36 for 2 bedroom. Very frustrating for someone who's been waiting patiently for March inventory to pop up. We were using a week with 33 exchange power and will now need to use a later year in order to get the 2 bedroom we need. Arrrrgg said the pirate.

I renew my bet. ;)
I'll bet a mickeybar that this isn't the last valuation change we ever see.

Edited to add: unless you really need to have separate ongoing searches for some reason, it is always wise to have one deposit that is well above anything you expect to need, and then combine all your searches onto that unit. That way you don't get caught by trying to line things up too perfectly. If you need to combine some deposit lines to get such a deposit, the $99 is a small price to pay for the peace of mind.

Plus the $99 extends the expiration date of those deposits (credits) and cleans up straggling points. It's always good to have something to play with. The way RCI currently works though, you can see what's there even if you don't have sufficient trade power.
