Thanks for the info. Your last comment is the way I was looking at it. If I am going to be "formal" like everyone else, I would like to be in one of the regular dining rooms.

I also, would prefer not to be at Palo's on the last night, given all the rush to pack, etc. Guess that doesn't leave much, does it? :)
Hmmm... and then the first night, wouldn't want to miss that either! Now that really doesn't leave much! Oh well.....we should always have such problems!

So on the western which rotation are we likely to get? We are a party of three, first seating with a nine year old son. I would like to be in luminares on one of the formal nights, we were last year on the western, I think we were Plaplap last time. (or whatever you call it, we ate in parrot cay first)

HOLD THE PHONE!! I just called DCL to request the PLAPLAP rotation to coincide with formal night, etc. They have changed things! I got the full scoop. Here it is:

Saturday - Casua - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Sunday - CASUAL - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Monday - FORMAL - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Tuesday - Casual - MASTER CHEF NIGHT
Wednesday - Casual - TROPICALIFRAGALISTIC
Thursday - Semi Formal - Captain's Gala
Friday - Casual - Small World Cuisine
Saturday - Home Cookin!! (boo hoo)

This is for the EASTERN ITINERARY! Good luck guys! I made my request for the APLAPLA. That way, we are in Lumier's for Formal night and Parrot Cay for Tropical. Thanks for the head's up. One last thing, the girl on the phone said that most people with "mixed seating" meaning we had kids but they were older, are usually put in the PLAPLAP rotation. I hope I am not opening up a pandora's box by requesting the kid's rotation......any comments?

Time for confusion! I just called and asked about the dining on the 7 day eastern for 11/2. I was told the following:

Saturday - Casual - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Sunday - FORMAL- Captain's Gala in your selected restaurant
Monday - Casual - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Tuesday - Casual - Your restaurant's regular menu
Wednesday - Casual - TROPICALIFRAGALISTIC
Thursday - Semi Formal - Master Chef Series
Friday - Casual - Small World Cuisine
Saturday - Eating out..... there isn't anything in the Fridge yet!

I called back to confirm, and they did, stating the "formal" nights are always nights 2 and 6.

Hope that helps.... Paul

mmouse37....
I just called to check with DCL again about the rotation and you were right!! I don't know what this poor girl was looking at last night, but it was way off! Thanks to you and Horace, I will now be very cautious and listen to you guys before I put much trust in DCL. Now I have to hope they can change my initial request back to PLAPLAP.....if they don't I will still have a great time.....I feel like I am starting to obsess about this cruise (not my normal nature). Again, thanks for your hard work on this chart. It is wonderful and ACCURATE!!:)

Now I'm really confused. Is Tropical night on the Eastern on Tues or Wed? I was able to make ressies for Palo with the AMEX package and I was told that Tropical night was on Tues is it now Wed? Anyone just returning from the Eastern cruise know the answer?

I'll confuse you further. I had to call DCL for something else, so I asked again about dining. This time I was quoted night 4 (Tuesday) is Tropical! I guess I need to call again for a tie-breaker! :)

I'll post what I find out.

Back in March 2002, the Eastern Caribbean schedule was:

Saturday - Casual - (Rotation menu)
Sunday - Formal - Captain's Gala
Monday - Casual - (Rotation menu)
Tuesday - Tropical attire - TROPICALIFRAGALISTIC
Wednesday - Casual - (Rotation menu)
Thursday - Semi-formal - Master Chef Series
Friday - Casual - Small World

On the list above, "Rotation menu" means that you have the restaurant's own menu and the restaurant's own personality. For example, when you're in Animator's Palatte on the rotation night, you get the Animator's Palatte menu and the restaurant's transformation.

This plan works really well. Because you have rotation dining every other night, you get all three rotation menus.

With the schedule that psimon posted, you would have he same menu on Saturday and Tuesday, and you would miss one rotation menu entirely. That just doesn't make sense to me. I think DCL gave misinformation to psimon.

I'm wondering if the CMs are getting confused because the Eastern and Western itineraries are different due to the ports and the arrival days. One thing I do know is that they are different. For instance, Sunday on the Eastern is a sea day, Sunday on the Western is Key West. Therefore the formal night had to be changed for the Western. Formal and semi-formal nights being on at-sea evernings.

AAAHHHHH!!!!!
I just called and asked again. I specifically said I was interested in the 7 day Eastern. This time I was told Formal is night 2, Semi-formal is night 6 and Tropical is night 4. This yields the following:

Saturday - Casual - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Sunday - FORMAL- Captain's Gala in your selected restaurant
Monday - Casual - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Tuesday - Casual - TROPICALIFRAGALISTIC
Wednesday - Casual - Your restaurant's own menu

Are we confused yet? Why is this so hard? I just don't get it.

Paul

If it helps with some of the confusion, I spoke with the dining coordinator when making the reservations last week. I made the Palo reservations specifically for Tropical Night. We wanted Tropical night because it was the only night without a show so we can do dinner with the kids, then head to Palo and then go to the deck party. (Luckily my DH doesn't mind a few quick clothes changes) She double checked while I was on the phone and it was on Tuesday. I would assume she would know what day was what, she did seem really great and completely informed. Hopefully, somone recently returning from a 7 day Eastern will confirm that all is the same for us.

Summary: Nothing has changed on the schedule for the Eastern itinerary all year. You don't get the same menu on the 1st and 4th night, and you don't miss any of the rotation menus.

And nothing has changed in terms of DCL providing misinformation over the phone.

Oh my....are we having fun yet?

I think we'll just wait until our cruise and be surprised!

They must be getting alot of phone calls today!! I also called and they said again that formal night is Sun and semiformal night is Thurs - DCL said the confusion is because the Western is different. I'd like to know ahead (of course) so I can plan our Palos options.

Palo's is exactly the reason I want to know. It wouldn't matter as much to me about the other nights (though it would be nice to have the formal night in Lumiere's and tropical night in Parrot Cay). I'll eat no matter where! :) :) :)

I may have to call one more time to see if there is a tie breaker!

4nana,

I'm with you. I might as well be surprised about something on this trip since I have micro-planned everything else.:D

Thank you, Thank you, thank you, mmouse37!!!

I've been reading the boards for quite a while and although we leave next week, I still didn't clearly understand the dining situation!! Now if I could just figure out what I'm going to wear!! ;)

Thanks for putting together the chart, it's a big help.

So formal night is on Sunday for the Eastern and on Monday for the Western, is that right?

If the suggested dress code for the day is casual and I'm in Lumiere's, I can go casual.

But if the dress code is formal and I'm in Parrot Cay, then I gotta go formal?

Do I have it right?

With my luck, I'll get LAPLAPL and I'll end up formal 5 out of 7 nights. That's when room service and buffet will save the day.

Hi!
First, Awesome chart!!!!! Thanks!!!

I was noticing that on the Western, day 1 & 4 are "regular rotation" menus. Since we are in the same restaurant on those days, do we get the same menu??

tiggerhoo: Hate to break it to ya, but Lumiere's is always "jacket requested". They have their own dress code. The asterisks on the handy-dandy chart indicate this.;) So, on the Western, you'd want APLAPLA (2 dressy nights)...Eastern you'd want PLAPLAP (3dressy nights), because of where the Formal nights fall. That's what I'm going for! :teeth:

mmouse37: Just one more question for the chart. Do you know the times for the Palo High Tea?? TIA

December 31, 2003 (New Year's Eve) is on a Wednesday, and I would really like to dine at Palo that evening. Since I'll be staying in room 8602 and have concierge service, are my odds better at getting my preference for that evening? Or do the ships throw the schedule out the window for that holiday week (Dec27-Jan3 Eastern Caribbean)??
