Hi everyone.....

(10/19/02) OK, I HAVE UPDATED THE CHARTS A THIRD TIME WITH INFO THAT I THINK IS CURRENT. I HAVE ALSO ADDED SHOW INFO.

I know many people are curious as to what the dining rotations are on each of the itineraries so I began gathering the info from these boards.

I created two charts that list all the dining rotations on each itinerary along with the ports of call and the dress code for each night.

If anyone would like to take a look here is a link. Click on each chart and you should be able to read them. If "Fit Window" is showing for view, use the dropdown arrow and change it to NORMAL. If you still need to see them larger you can scroll down a bit you will see a VIEW FULL SIZE option. Click on that and you should be able to read them fine.

Also, if anyone notices any discrepancies please let me know so I can change them. Thanks.

That's really cool. Thanks ever so much for putting that together! Looks like on the 7 day western the APL rotation is the one to get!
Since we travel with kids 7 & 10 for our next cruise, I'm thinking we will probably get PLA. What do you guys think? Can you request a rotation?

You have "Small World" listed for attire for Friday suggested evening dress code. Can you please provide an example of what that might be or did you intend "Casual" here as well? :Pinkbounc

Excellent post - thank you so much!

Sonya.....On our last two DCL cruises we did request rotations based on the charts....because we wanted to be in the Lumiere's on formal night and Parrot Cay on Tropical/Mexicali night.

I called DCL about a month before sailing and REQUESTED, but they said they could not guarantee. The CM actually said he didn't know what would happen but he would pass the request on to the dining department. Both cruises we got the rotation we requested. How receptive DCL will be to everyone requesting rotatations is yet to be seen!!!

Noris.....I did mean casual, but wanted people to know that was Small World night refering to the menu.

Hi!
How do we determine which rotation we are? I know we are early seating, but how does that work. We only cruised 4 day last time and this time we are doing Western 7 day!

Thanks,
Jodie:bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

You don't get your dining rotation until you check in at the port, it will be printed on your Key to the World Card. It will also be in your stateroom. :)

Did you real mean to write "Suggested Evening Dress Code: Small World" for the Friday nights? How should a lady and a gentleman dress for the Small World look? Perhaps I'll wear a Tyrolean hat, lederhosen, and embroidered suspenders -- unless shorts aren't allowed.

But seriously, it's a very nice chart. May I offer two suggestions:
  • It might be good to add another column for "Menu" (such as Master Chef Series, Small World, Parrot Cay rotation, etc.) instead of trying to combine the suggested attire and the menu in one column.
  • It would be useful to identify the character breakfast day for each rotation. (That's helpful when picking the best day for brunch at Palo.)
Thank you for making the nice charts!

Is it really possible to request a certain dining rotation? We are a large group and this would be so so helpful.

Thank you! I also called and requested PLAPLAP and I am happy to hear that you got your request. Will keep my fingers crossed!

mmouse37 :)
Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to to this for us. You are so sweet! I can just make a copy and have it handy. Now, if they'd only give your dining rotation when you pay in full !

MJ...Thanks so much for doing all that work. If its not too much work to alter, it would be great to know the dinners planned, meaning master chef's etc. So then as soon as we see our KTTW card we whip out our chart which will have been printed and in our carry on and rush to Palo's. LOL

Thanks Again for all your work

HOLD THE PHONE!! I just called DCL to request the PLAPLAP rotation to coincide with formal night, etc. They have changed things! I got the full scoop. Here it is:

Saturday - Casua - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Sunday - CASUAL - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Monday - FORMAL - Each Restaurant serves own menu
Tuesday - Casual - MASTER CHEF NIGHT
Wednesday - Casual - TROPICALIFRAGALISTIC
Thursday - Semi Formal - Captain's Gala
Friday - Casual - Small World Cuisine
Saturday - Home Cookin!! (boo hoo)

This is for the EASTERN ITINERARY! Good luck guys! I made my request for the APLAPLA. That way, we are in Lumier's for Formal night and Parrot Cay for Tropical. Thanks for the head's up. One last thing, the girl on the phone said that most people with "mixed seating" meaning we had kids but they were older, are usually put in the PLAPLAP rotation. I hope I am not opening up a pandora's box by requesting the kid's rotation......any comments?

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions...I will update as soon as I can.

Target....we did not find a substantial amount of kids at our Plap rotation on the Eastern. We were late seating so that may have had something to do with it. I think there are going to kids at every rotation, that's is too be expected. I don't think a few more here or there makes any difference!!!

Werner...thanks for the suggestions, I will make another column...oh BTW....I love a man in lederhosen!!!!

BTW, mmouse37, thanks for all your hard work! It is caring cruisers like yourself that proves invaluable to new cruisers like me. I have no problem eating with other kids (I have two and was a kid myself one time...). We also have late seating (I am very happy about that-heard it doesn't break up the day as quickly). I have only been waiting since September 13, 2002 (that is when we booked) - I am so excited, I have permanent knots in my stomach!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I don't know how you guys stand it when you book 2 years out! I only have to wait until December 14, 2002! Thanks again mmouse37. I am looking forward to the cruise.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Very nice handy chart but ....

I guess since I haven't been on DCL before, I don't understand why I would want one rotation over another. Why did you want the PLA rotation vs the other two? Am I missing something?

Also, if you went to Palo's, which restaurant did you give up and why?

Thanks.... Paul

Just be careful with the infomation that you get over the phone from DCL.

I talked to DCL before our cruise last spring. The guy I talked to gave me all sorts of misinformatiopn about which night was which. I was surprised, because his story didn't match what I had read on this board. Not surprisingly, it turned out that the DCL guy was wrong and the folks on this board were right.

And looking at the list that Target posted, some things just don't make sense. For example, why would each restaurant serve its regular menu on the formal night? When a restaurant serves its own menu, it matchs the theme of the restaurant. In other words, would they really do the Animator's Palette transformation on the Formal night when the serving staff is wearing tuxedos? You can't do both. That's why on the formal, semi-formal, and tropical nights, all restaurants use the same menu.

I'm not doubting Target's integrity. I believe that Target honestly posted what DCL told him. But I won't believe that the rotation schedule has changed until I read -- on this board -- that returning passengers are actually experiencing the schedule that Target posted.

Horace, thanks for the input! Now I regret acting so fast to place a request...I guess I put too much faith in DCL. You guys would know of their information mix-ups. What do I do know? They are closed for tonight, should I call tomorrow and check with someone else, or cancel my request? I need to be more patient about these things....:(

Any recent Eastern cruisers out there that can tell us what nights are what currently on the theme dining nights, etc.

Hate to post outdated info. Would definitely like clarification from recent cruisers.

I do agree with Horace that many times, unknowingly DCL can give out wrong info.

psimon....you are right...it really does not matter what rotation you get, you will have a wonderful time.

Our own personal preference is to be in the more formal dining rooms on formal and semi formal nights, and in Parrot Cay on the Tropicali/Mexicali nights. Just puts us more in the spirit/themeing of things. As I said...this is a personal preference and really would not hinder our experience at all if we did not get our preferred rotation.

On our Eastern cruise we went to Palo on Friday night only because we made ressies late and that was all that was open. The only thing I did not like about this was not being with our regular servers on the last night. We did tell them we would not be there and we saw them at breakfast on Sat morn.

On our last Western cruise 8/3, we did the Palo brunch. We had Palo dinner on Thurs (semi-formal) but the only reason it was that night was because we were invited to dine with the Captain with three other couples and that was the night for the invitation. On a side not, the Captain never made it to dinner due to the Cuban Refugee incident. All of us couples still had a wonderful meal at Palos anyway!!! We did miss the Captain, though...

I would do Palo on any night other than the formals or Tropicali/Mexicali nights.
