Hello,

Thinking of taking a trip to the fw cabins and have questions.

Would 4 adults, a seven year old and a one year old be too cramped in a cabin?

Does Dvc charge $95 for this exchange?

Do you get daily housekeeping?

Are any of the beds pillowtops?

Is the Murphy bed comfortable?

How far is everything like swimming and buses from the cabins?

Are the cabins really moderate? Some pics looked bad!

When were they last refurbished?

Would our experience be better at vwl?

Thanks!

Hello,

Thinking of taking a trip to the fw cabins and have questions.

Would 4 adults, a seven year old and a one year old be too cramped in a cabin? Yes nicely but there is only 1 bathroom.

Does Dvc charge $95 for this exchange? Yes

Do you get daily housekeeping? Yes

Are any of the beds pillowtops? I do not believe so.

Is the Murphy bed comfortable? Yes it is better than a pull out couch.

How far is everything like swimming and buses from the cabins? buses are ok, we usually rented a car. They are awesome at Xmas time. people usually decorate there campsites and that is a lot of fun to see.

Are the cabins really moderate? Some pics looked bad! They downgraded them but that are MUCH nicer than moderate. They have full kitchens to make whatever you want to eat in the room.

When were they last refurbished?Dunno.

Would our experience be better at vwl?Depends on your tastes. They are very quiet.

Thanks!
:thumbsup2

Does the 7 year old like the top bunk? You could have 2 adults in the Murphy bed in the LR, 2 adults in the double in the BR, the 7 YO on the top bunk, and the 1 YO on the bottom with bed rails. Or, the 1 YO could sleep in the Pack and Play (which will take up floor space), and 1 adult could sleep in the bottom bunk (if they aren't too tall).

Does Dvc charge $95 for this exchange?

Do you get daily housekeeping? Yes, although like at other Disney resorts, the quality has declined a bit.

Are any of the beds pillowtops?

Is the Murphy bed comfortable? Yes! My MIL slept in it one year, and DH and I slept in it the second year. :thumbsup2 from all of us!

How far is everything like swimming and buses from the cabins? The cabins are pretty close to their quiet pool and laundry. We requested a cabin near a bus stop the first year, and we rented a golf cart the second year. I highly recommend the golf cart. Pricey, but lots of fun, and a great way to get to the main pool and boat to the MK.

Are the cabins really moderate? Some pics looked bad! They were fine.

When were they last refurbished? It has been within the last 5 years, but not recently enough for flat screen TV's.

Would our experience be better at vwl? I haven't stayed at VWL yet, but if you like the quiet of the cabins and having your own separate space, the cabins are great! Also, if you have a car, parking right outside the cabin is nice, too. We drove to all parks except MK, and taking sleeping kids inside was so much easier.

Thanks!

Of couse YMMV, but we loved the cabins and may go back to them someday ($95 fee and all).

You should check out the camping forum. They will tell you everything you would like to know.

We stayed in the cabins a few times before we bought DVC and we really liked them. Fort Wilderness is a unique experience in WDW.

Love the cabins, but found we either had to rent a golf cart (best part of our trip to be able to cruise around but pricey over the years) or have a car. It is a unique experience and will stay there again, probably with a cash ressie. The cabins are nice, outdoor space, deck, picnic table and grill are even better. Murphy bed is comfy for a double bed (not queen) and double bed in bedroom with bunk beds. We have stayed there every year for 15 years and the past 2 years they do seem to need some updating due to wear and tear but I have noticed that at other properties also. Full kitchen is great, boat ride to MK is convenient, boat ride to Contemporary and then riding the monorail is fun. Oh yea we are a family of 5 (3 teen daughters) and we all felt like we had our space and I think a big part of that is being able to have coffee/meals on the deck!

Love the FW cabins! We have stayed using points and didn't regret it. We did stay before the $95 fee, but I would do it again even with the fee. For getting around the fort I highly recommend a golf cart. It's pricey, but my kids loved it so much it became like going on a ride at MK for them. The nightly campfire is something that hasn't changed since I was a kid, and is always great. I love VWL as well, but they are two different vacations. The cabins while not rustic, give me that camping feel while allowing my DW her modern ammenities. The grill outside your door is great and I love parking my car right outside for when we went to parks other than MK. I also did the segway tour at FW, which is in my top five favorite things I've done at WDW.
