FW cabins or Poly concierge?

Hi all, we will be going to DW next spring with 7 of us. 4 grown adult children DH and myself and 4 yo granddaughter. We have always stayed at the Cabins @FW and have a great time, rent golf carts and 2 cabins so everyone has some privacy. We like to have breakfast at the cabin and take sandwiches to TL or BB. We love the water parks too so the pools at FW aren't that big of a deal. However! I really want to try something else but DH is set in his ways about the cabins. Would poly concierge be equal convience wise, ie privacy since we would have 2 rooms at the poly. Is it hard for people at the poly to get kids down for a nap if you are in the same room? I know the pool would be great, do you think if the pool is nicer than FW we would be less likely to need to go to TL & BB? Please let me know your opinions, it is driving me crazy. The cost does not have any effect on this. I will just work harder at saving.

We stayed at the Poly Concierge in Dec. When you walk out of the Hawaii building you will be right at the pool. We wanted to go to BB or TL but never made it because the Poly Volcano pool was so convenient and the kids loved it.

I don't know about naps, my 4 year olds have never napped while at WDW. We take things pretty slow. They tended to have a lot of energy.

The Concierge lounge is a wonderful place to get away from your room. You will meet a lot of nice families and the kids love to play together and make new friends. The CMs are very nice.

Your husband will probably love the ease of transportation by using the monorail. With a 4 year old you will more than likely be going to the MK a lot.

I am thinking too that having a pool bar might be something nice for everyone too. I was hoping someone would say that the poly pool is so nice and convienient that BB isn't such a priority. Thanks alot. Any more opinions?

I think you would love the Poly concierge. We were just there last month with DH and myself and my 3 DD's ages, 3yrs, 20 mos and 2 mos. I don't think my 3 yr old napped while we were there though. Too much to do! We enjoyed the pool, but didn't use the pool bar. We also never go to BB or TL, so I'm not sure if the pool will replace those. I honestly felt like the pool was a little on the smaller side compared to other Disney pools. The quiet pool was under rehab though, so maybe it was just busier at the main pool.

I don't think it's difficult to get one child to take a nap though. We just closed the curtains and everyone took a nap. In the past with my kids, I have sat on the balcony and read while they napped.

The concierge lounge is nice for us because it's a little hectic to eat out every meal with the kids. If we can cut it down to one or two meals a day out, it helps save our sanity! Also, as pirateofthecarolinas pointed out, the concierge building is located next to the pool and it's also close to the boat dock. We love the Poly and plan on returning again next time.

Wow Sprntfan, my hat goes off to you for taking 3 kids that young to DW! I guess I shouldn't have to worry about 1 -4 year old. There is quite a bit of things for a littleone to do at FW and we always said it would be fun to take a grandchild there . But it would be nice not having to shop for groceries and have someone else take care of me for a change. I have visions of just me and Chloe (my GD) taking off to the MK all by ourselves as many times as we want and coming back without a lot of trouble. How long does it take to get to the MK from the Poly?

thumpersfriend,

Just a thought have you ever thought about staying at a one or two-bedroom Villa at DVC Resort...The Beach Club Villas have the Stormalong Bay Pool which anyone would love.

Well, on the monorail you have to stop at the GF and then you're at the MK. The return trip takes a little longer since you have to stop at CR and then TTC. My DH took my DD (3) to the MK one night after dinner and he took the boat back. He liked that the most since it was less crowded coming back.
I agree with MAGICinMyHEART though about the DVC resort. That's what we're doing next time. We love Storm Along Bay,s o we're sold on that!

Now I am having a big dilema and will probably change my mind several times. Why does picking a resort seem like such a big job. Guess it is because it is alot of money and you want the best bang for your buck. The boat from FW was fun and didn't take too long either, I know kids love it. The DVC villas sound great too but then I would be about the same distance to the MK as FW wouldn't I? This is harder than I thought it would be. We only get to DW every 3-4 years so I want it to be as perfect as possible. I was going over the amount it would cost and came up to 2,800 more if I stayed at the Poly instead of FW. I know I said money didn't matter but that is quite a difference. Just need reassurance I guess that it would be worth the change.

Poly concierge is more expensive and I have never been to the FW cabins. But my family has been to Poly concierge with my sister's twins 2x they were 3 1/2 the first time and 4 1/2 the 2nd time. The kids loved it as much as the adults. In the morning every one can get up at their leisure and have breakfast in the lounge. The staff encourage you to take water and soda back to your room and to take water to the parks. The pool and beach are right outside the building so your granddaughter can play in the sand. You can watch the fireworks from the lounge or the beach and not have the hassle of the crowds at MK. In fact if you see the parade from the just by the entrance you can be back at the Poly before the fireworks start (if you can hurry). You can also use the lounge for appetizers and/or desert depending upon when you eat dinner. Last thing the staff was very nice and always extra accomodating when it came to the kids, giving them chocolate milk or the peanutbutter and jelly uncrustables. Have fun whatever you decide.

You know, I have waited quite a while for my beautiful granddaughter and I really want something extra special. I think I will do Poly consierge since everyone seems to love it. I remember years ago when our kids were very young and riding the monorail, we came to the Poly and the kids said"I wish I could stay in some place like that someday." Thank you for all your comments, I appreciate it very much. Guess I messed up and posted my last question twice, sorry.

No advice from me; I just wanted to wish you a wonderful trip. Your 4-year-old granddaughter is going to be absolutely swept away by the magic wherever you stay! Poly concierge sounds like a great decision, though--that is first on my list of "dream" trips!

I know this is an echo - I would consider a 2BR at Beach Club Villas - steps to Epcot and the Boardwalk

Would be a good choice

thanks

Having stayed at both resorts, I'd say concentrate on what would make your vacation most enjoyable. If you are looking for privacy, extra space and the ability to cook an occasional meal, FW is probably your best bet. If location, the monorail, a spectacular view and all the ammenities and conveniences of concierge would make it magical, the Poly is it. Both resorts are equally child friendly. Have a blast choosing!!!

You have a neat dilemna, but a dilemna none the less! I appreciate your desire to try a different area in the vast WDW offerings.
I haven't stayed at the Poly Concierge, but I have stayed in FW Cabins and the Beach Club Villas. Each has their unique "draws". The boat access to the MK from FW is special - there is really nothing else like it! The convenience to Epcot and MGM from the BC Villas is unmatched! We loved it - a family of all adults. In addition the Villas offer proximity to the Boardwalk and some "nightlife" if you would enjoy that. On the other side of the coin, FW offers wonderful outdoor actvities, more space and privacy. Perhaps your first decision is where will you spend the majority of your time and what do you want to do? FW is clearly convenient to the MK, has lots of internal diversions, and wonderful comfort and privacy. But it is much less convenient to the other theme parks. The Villas offer unparallel access to the "adult" theme parks i.e. Epcot and MGm, but I believe less room, less privacy and fewer outdoor activities. Personally, any Hotel room, even in a Concierge setting, offers less room and privacy than we desire.
As I said, we loved the BCV, but I would return to FW in a heartbeat! Whatever you choose it will be a wonderful vacation!

I am still having seconds thoughts about not going to FW. I was talking with my son (father of my granddaughter) yesterday, he loves FW and the experiences we have had there, but he says it might be fun to try something new too. This is my granddaughters 1st trip and I want it to be as magical to her as to me. I don't know if we would get the privacy and ease of getting everyone together as we do at FW. The cabins are so quiet and comfortable, I read about some villas and hotel rooms being noisey . The BWV's sound wonderful but if they are in the epcot area the travel time to the MK would be compromised somewhat, please tell me if I am wrong. I think they would be very nice though, if anyone has thoughts on this please let me know. If someone could tell me how long it usually takes to get to the MK I would appreciate it. Also, doesn't SAB close earlier than the other pools? Is that quiet pool nice too? I looked up the pictures and they are beautiful!! I guess I couldn't go wrong with whatever we choose.

We chose to stay at FW cabins this year. We've stayed at FW a few times in the past but not in a cabin. It was before my now 5 year old son was born so I really wanted him to have the FW experience. I knew he would love visiting the petting zoo, playgrounds, Disney movies and campfires with marshmellows, and we will also be doing Hoop De Doo for the first time this year. I know all of us will love that! Good luck with your desicion, I know you guys will have a blast wherever you decide to stay with your little granddaughter!:D
