We, ok, I am trying to plan another Disney vacation next Oct.
I thought about renting DVC points, even contacted someone, but my DH does not want to pay that much for a room.

He said we will hardly be in the room. Which, of course, he is right!

Dec we stayed at POR and loved it. This next time we will have six of us. My DD is taking her best friend. They will both be 18.

Would it be better to get two rooms at AS or all 6 of us stay at FW cabins.

Do they have connecting rooms at AS?

Lisa

The girls would probably like to stay up later chatting. They could have the Murphy bed in the living room of the FW cabin, and you guys could all go to sleep in the bedroom.

Otherwise, you will have to split the connecting AS rooms (which they do have) by six people. Are you going to give the girls a whole room to themselves. That'd be cool!

i just called Disney to see if they had connecting rooms in the AS and they said yes, but no guarantee we would get them.

Anyone have any experience on this.

I do like the idea of having a big fridge in the cabin.

Any cons to the cabin?

The only "con" to the cabin that I can think of is that with 2 girls-only one bathroom and a small one at that. However, if it were me, I'd tell the girls to survive. I've stayed at both places and am NOT a big fan of the All-Stars. However, I've stayed at FW 3 times, soon to be 4. For theming, you can't beat FW.

I'd vote for FW, too. Stayed there with 6 people--4 adults and 2 teenagers (both boys) and it worked just fine. We just took baths at different times--night vs. morning. Also there was a mirror and dressing table in the bedroom. Worked just fine and the fridge was wonderful!

Are you permitted to use the showers that are there for the other people in campers?

Who else is going?? We took my niece and nephew to the ASSp in Nov and gave them their own room. In the other room, it was DH, myself, and DS (age 5). This arrangement worked out great!!!! The bathroom was not even an issue and the kids come could and go as they pleased at the resort (the food court, pool, store, arcade). When I made the reservation, I asked for connecting rooms and was guaranteed it, because "they would not look after our teenagers". To those who think 18yo are adults, get real. At the cabins, however, they might charge the extra adult charge per night for the two girls. I am not familar with FW, so I don't know how far the walk is to the store/restaurant. Personally, with two kids that big, I would want more space and privacy.

The people going are my DH and myself, our two boys who at that time will be 10 and 7. We will also be taking our DD 18 and her best friend, 18.

You know I was thinking of connecting rooms. I called Disney about two hours ago and they could not guarantee connecting rooms.

I even said to her, Well...with two 18 year olds, you never know what might happen.
She said those rooms were for families with smaller (younger) children.

Re: Using the showers at the Comfort Stations

Fort Wilderness is set up with many "loops". Some loops have campsites and others have the cabins. While you could use the showers at the comfort stations there are no comfort stations on the loops with the cabins (since the cabins each have their own shower). It would be quite a hike to the nearest comfort station, just for a shower.

Check out http://home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/fwmapnew.jpg for a map of Fort Wilderness. The cabins are on loops 2100 - 2600 (located at the bottom left of the map).

I would go with the cabin at FW. You'll have a full kitchen and the resort is sooooo peaceful.

I do remember, however, that one time when we were staying in loop 2100 (I think that was the #) and one person was in the bathroom, DH went to the comfort station in another loop!

Lisa,

I think it was very strange that the CM told you that the rooms were for families with younger children! I suppose they don't allow senior citizens in? Three times at Disney (in the past year), I have requested connecting rooms and three times I have gotten them. Two times (at ASMo and CBR), it was four adults and one child. I would just ask them to note it on your reservation and then call or fax the room controller five days before. I think with boys and girls that age, you will have dressing issues, etc. I would get two rooms. As much as I LOVE my niece and nephew , all of us in one "quarters" would have been too much (and we only stayed two nights!).

Susy,
thanks for the suggestion. Yes, that is what the CM told me when I called.
She said it is for people with younger kids.
So, I guess if I asked for it there is a good chance I would not.

I still am torn about where to stay. We want to save money on the stay, but I think it might be kind of cramped. But, then again, if we only sleep and shower there, it might be okay.

AAAHHH!!! I need another choice! I wish the AS had big fridges like the cabins!

That would make my choice easier. Thanks everyone...

Lisa

I think what the CM meant is that they will guarentee connecting rooms for parties with too many kids to fit in 1 room. The 18 year olds are not considered children, so they may not be allowed to guarentee connecting rooms. It doesn't mean you won't be able to get them!

For example, if it was you, DH, and four 10 year olds, they could give you a confirmed reservation for 2 connecting rooms. But they (& I'm guessing the computer) look at your family as 4 adults and 2 children.

The cabins are really nice, but that's a lot of people for one bathroom! If they had an extra sink, it might not be so bad. I guess you can brush your teeth in the kitchen!

Nothing is walking distance from the cabins. You have to take a bus to the store & restaurant. You can park by one of the stores, but only for 15 minutes.

You could do OKW 2 br Sunday- Thursday night for $240.00 per night total cost. $1200.00 for the 5 nights. maybe start your vacation in 2 rooms at AS and finish it in style. Pleanty of room and you can save some money on meals. Just a thought.

I agree with Rich, check out renting points for a 2 bedroom at OKW. We are renting a 1 bedroom for Nov/Dec trip this year and it looks like a 2 bedroom would run 24 points a night and that includes your tax. I think the extra space would be great for your group and you can tell dh you get full kitchen (not that you have to actually use it ;) ) but could be a money saver for breakfast and snacks. Good luck
Pam

Don't even get me started on how wonderful OKW is. Renting a unit there is a great idea, but if that doesn't work out the cabins are great AND Simba's Mom was correct. Loop #2100, Bobcat Bend, IS adjacent to a camping loop and therefore offers access to the Comfort Station. We stayed last Spring in site #2140 and it was perfect. I told them when making the reservation that we were a large group (6) and needed access to the extra bathroom. There is also laundry at the Comfort Station and Bobcat Bend is on a major bus stop. We had a ball!

The cabin is not "huge" but we did fine. The bedroom has a full bed and a set of bunks. My kids loved it! There is a full kitchen and lots of room for "stuff" plus a nice deck and a BBQ grill. We stayed with my parents and every morning my Dad went to the Comfort Station for shower and shave. These are spotless and would be fine for your girls.

Have fun!

at the AS, could you tell them the connecting room would be for the 10/7 yo? Wouldn't that guarantee connecting?

erinch,

Yes, I did tell them the ages of the kids that would be coming.

She said it was not guaranteed and that it was reserved for people with "younger" children.
I believe she meant under 5, but not sure.

Lisajl

From what I've read here (we only have 1 kid), you have to have 5+ to get guarenteed connecting at the All stars. And it has to be 3 or more children.

I'm sure it's not that your kids are too old to qualify, but rather that you have 2 "adults" in each room and therefore have no unsupervised "children". I can't imagine Disney wants 10 year olds staying alone, but an 18 year old is an adult to them, so no special treatment. :(

If your family was you, DH, DD18 & friend 18, you'd have to pay extra for the two teens if you all stayed in one room. They're Disney grown ups! :)
