Future of DVC Sales Offices

I just had a thought while reading Doc's excellent review of SSR progress. He mentioned that the DVC Sales offices at BW will be moving to SSR once more of it has been built which raises the very interesting question, what will they do with the space at BW?

Unlike at OKW where they razed the Commodore House and made more units to sell, because it is on the BW level I don't think they will add more units for sale there.

I would like to see them add a coffee shop that has REAL coffee (not Nescafe concentrate :( ) and pastries. It could provide a badly needed alternative spot for breakfast at BW or a late night snack. ;)

Any other ideas we can suggest to DVC? :)

The sales office and models at BWV are not suitable for conversion to retail or restaurant space. They have low ceilings.

The space will be converted into additional BWV units. In many cases the walls are already there, and it's just a matter of installing BVW fixtures (kitchen and bath), furniture, and decor.

The BWV sales office space has already been sold to members for new villas. Sales for those began several months ago and little, if any, remains.

No renderings have been released, that I'm aware of, to indicate what the final form of the storefront area (entry to the sales office from the BW) will become, but I'm confident that specific area will not have patios or actual guest rooms.

The interior models and DVC offices will be remodeled into new BWV villas however. This should take place once SSR opens next May!

Stay Tuned!

I'm very curious as to whether the first floor BW view will have villas or not. :) I'm not sure what I'd think of having one if they had them.

Is it the entire "Crest O'the Wave" building that will be BWV now? Or are they just converting the BWV individual models themselves?

I don't think I'd want a first floor room on the Boardwalk, people always walking by, especially right next to Jellyrolls. My guess is they will not put rooms there. The other model rooms face the pool I believe.

My guess is that the first floor, facing the Boardwalk, will have villas. (After all, the models that are facing the Boardwalk can easily be converted into actual viilas.) And, my guess is that those villas will have patios, with a buffer of landscpaing between these patios and the Boardwalk itself.

But these are only guesses, and I could be wrong.

How'd you like to get home from the parks one evening and find your patio crawling with people sitting in your chairs, eating from your table because the chairs and tables on the Boardwalk were full? Shades of John Candy in Summer Rental.

Maybe those with easy access to the Boardwalk will be w/c access units?

Actually, my guess is that the bottom floor units won't have easy access to or from the actual Boardwalk — to avoid the exact situation that the post from Deb & Bill describes. The Crest O' The Wave building is set back from the Boardwalk, in relation to the buildings on either side of it. There should be enough room to have a small patio for each unit, and a barrior between those patios and Boardwalk.

I would think DVC thought of what to do with those units when they built the building in the beginning.

Don't worry be happy! They will be fine as units with boardwalk view. They will take the ramps away and add something to block people from coming onto your deck. Most of the rooms are facing towards the Swan/Dolphin in the rear.Lets just wait and see what happens.

I'd be extremely reluctant to have any 1st floor room overlooking the boardwalk, and wouldn't find a patio on the BW very relaxing at all. I know DW would reject those rooms flat out.

If they insist on turning these into rooms, I'd prefer they omit the patios and just close these off with windows. Also, coat the glass so you can keep the curtains open but not allow any gawkers.

I think those rooms would be just great get up and sit out at the walk and talk to the passers by that is what I consider a very enjoyable way to stay. Just imagine you sit out there watch the fireworks and talk to everyone when they go by you really never meet a friendlier bunch than you do at WDW usually anyhow.

I woudl not feel safe in thsoe rooms. Not that I think anyone woudl break in cause it woudl be in the open, but just the lack of privacy of the whole thing. I can just see one of my kids opening the curtain whiel I'm dressing. If I got one of those rooms it woudl freak me out. JMHO

I believe that they will not use the space along the BW for additional DVC space even though they will use the space along the back of the building for that purpose. I may be wrong, but that space appears to be the same as all of the other retail space along the BW in terms of ceiling height available. All of that space has DVC rooms above it. There could be more space above the ceiling than is apparent in the DVC "models". Also, I don't recall particularly high celings in the Big River Grill Brew Works. Call me crazy but, I'm still hoping for an establishment with real coffee. :teeth:

In any case, I am pretty sure that that space along the BW itself will become retail space. As Doc says, I will "Stay Tuned".

.........I second that.

On the Inn side of the hotel there are first floor rooms going towards the pool. I believe the have a little garden in front of there rooms and a picket fence with a gate that you have to use your room key to open(if I remember correctly it has been a few years since I was on that side) to prevent people from walking right up to your room. Maybe they will be doing that on the boardwalk side, there are plants there already near the steps to the office.
