We have to cruises booked right now.
DCL- Nov 2020 ( merrytime double dip that is so hard to cancel, I was looking forward to first time on the Fantasy, double dip at Castaway and first Merrytime)
Royal- June 2021(thankfully booked refundable deposit)

We are not going to keep either of these. For our family that has some higher risk issues I don’t see us cruising until 2022.

We have about 2200 down for the deposit and while I don’t need it right now I would like my money back sooner rather than later.

We are booked through Costco so should I just submit the refund request now and let them get to it when they get to it or wait?

Thanks

Since you are certain you aren't going to cruise, I would cancel now. I don't believe there is any particular delay with routine cancellations (prior to PIF), so it should be fairly simple and quick.

I'd cancel now and get my money back. My aunt's refund from Royal took almost a month but I've heard some travel companies (hotels, airlines) are not giving refunds for 90 days plus! Thirty days seems to be about the norm for the air/hotels I've had to cancel.

Disney cancelled our May cruise on the fantasy and I cancelled our 3 September cruises on the dream. I figure if it is safe to sail, we can rebook closer to sailing and probably pay less also.

We were past PIF with our May cruise, so we had to wait it out and hope disney cancelled to not lose money. I didn’t want to be in that situation again for our fall cruises.

If you are sure that you are not going, there is NO value added for you to delay in requesting a refund. The longer you wait the more you incur the risk that in a prolonged cruise shutdown that the cruise companies will shift to a 90 day refund policy or something similar to try to delay having to find money while they have no operating income. I doubt that DCL will cease to operate, but I can easily see a long time frame for a refund down the road.

Agreed. We cancelled our August cruise before PIF so that we had control of our funds and our plans.

I agree. I’d do it now. From what I’ve been reading about Costco on here, I’d not wait.

To be honest, after hear Neiman Marcus going Bankrupt, I was getting nervous about getting my NCL back. Got it today and relieved. That took a month! So.....keep all the unknown variables in mind as the refund may not happen overnight. Just saying.....

I was going to wait on our October Wonder cruise because I didn't want to overwhelm my TA when they have more recent cruises to deal with. But now I'm not sure if Jetblue is going to refund us for a May flight that they canceled, even though it is illegal for them not to, so we're out almost $1500 on that. I don't feel like leaving my money with companies that may choose not to refund us in the future, or may choose to only do so with "credit."

ETA Jetblue just refunded my flight with zero argument, so perhaps they've had a change in policy after the round of bad press. We'll see how long it takes the credit on my card to show up.
