Furniture condition at BCV

Just completed another stay at BCV in a 2 BR villa. I was appalled at the condition of the furniture. I was showen several rooms (pretty embarrassing for me, but I guess more so for them) as each one was worse than the previous one. The tables were chipped, sofas stained, very bad 'bubbles' outside the shower wall (someone painted over mildew, I think).

All ni all, I was very disappointed considernig the resort is only 2 1/2 years old. I have not found this at OKW, BCV or VWL.

Is it only the 3 rooms we looked at?

I think that some rooms are probably worse than others, but several have commented about "beat up" furniture in their rooms, especially coffee tables. Our room(a studio) last May, was just out and out not clean. I could make a list a mile long of all the major and minor issues, that it had. I complained mostly about the housekeeping issues, and really never got it solved to my satisfaction. I guess it's just luck sometimes, and apparently, you weren't lucky this time. There were things that my DH and I liked about the BCV, but overall the whole time I was there, all I could think was that I could not believe that resort was only 2 years old. DH agreed, that it looked much more worn and unkept than the other resorts we have stayed at. If I would of had guests, I would have been embarrassed. I think the DVC has had many complaints about this resort, and suppossedly, they are "working" on it. I don't by any means think that this resort is a dump, but I've seen way too many reports on this board to not think that this is a problem. Beware, many people on this board will make you try to think that you are just nit picky, because they have had good experiences. Unfortunately for us, that was not the case. I'm not sure what the answers are for DVC with this resort, but I'm glad my points are elsewhere.

On a side note, I grew up in Bradenton! I graduated from Bayshore HS. My family moved in 1989, while I was attending college. My last visit was in 2002, I couldn't get over how much the area has changed!

Dd and I are staying in a studio at BCV in June. I had read a lot of reports about the less than perfect conditions here. But since we are planning an 'all girls trip' in 2006 with friends, we wanted to check it out ourselves before we made firm plans. If we find it to be not what we hope for, we will be staying at BWV. Here's hoping the condition of rooms gets better.

I know this is just a sample size of one, but we had a Studio in December and had no furniture issues whatsoever.

okay you need to check with your guide - but I think in the model rooms we were told that the furniture was beaten up - it is surpose to be grandmother's house and the furniture is surpose to have that used quality.

don't get upset with BCV - get upset with the silly interior designer.....

they should put a note on the doors - this is surpose to look this way....

I expect to see some wear and tear on the furniture at the DVC resorts. The furniture can't look showroom new when the rooms are probably occupied by a hundred families per year. Some wear and tear is from vacuum cleaners repeatedly bumping into the bottom of furniture. Housekeeping probably needs to wash of crayons and markers, until the finish is gone entirely from soem spots. Other damage is from carelessness with luggage or thoughtless guests who don't treat the DVC furniture as they would treat their furniture at home.

That said, I think the wear and tear on the furniture in our BCV 1BR a few months ago was excessive. And before anyone questions me on this, allow we to point out that I know the difference between "distressed" finshes and places where the finish has been rubbed off entirely.

DVC needs to use more durable finishes. And DVC needs to change out damaged pieces, without always wating for some sort of 5 year cycle.

When I was there in Dec at BCV, saw several end tables and trunks being replaced on our floor. Also they were touching up paint in the hallway outside as well.

Looked like they were working their way down the floor, replacing things....

FYI, Goldi

4th Floor, Illuminations view.

Are you saying that they let you look at three rooms before they assigned you one?

We are going in March so I will see for myself. I plan to be very picky - or at least as picky as I can to try to see it thru the eyes of someone who notices more stuff than me. Was there in Oct 2003 and Dec 2002 and noticed nothing out of the ordinary.

Sure do wish there were some photos of the carnage though and I'm not calling anyone picky here - just wondering what so bad about it? Maybe I would think it was bad too if I saw it. A stain on a sofa? How big? 1" across? An entire cushion? Well - do we expect them to replace them immediately everytime there is a stain they can't get out? Nicks and bumps and stuff in the coffee table - well, how bad is it? Is a 5" section corner off the table? Or is it a normal wear and tear - a 1/2" gouge on a corner? What is it that made it so appalling?

Just wondering..................

I've stayed at BCV several times and haven't noticed anything really bad in the way of furniture, other than I think some of the sofa bed frames are getting bent.

Sorry if this makes anyone feel nitpicky, but it might reassure some who have already committed to staying there.

Guess that's why we own and always stay at OKW!! Never had any complaints about the condition of furniture there!

I'm guessing you're being snide calling it carnage. That much being said, I'm talking about coffee tables and end tables ith significant removeal of the finish - in one case about 1/3 of the table top. Stains on the sofa and on the seats by the table were so bad my kids would not sit on them - and I'm talking about a 9 YO boy here! The conditions of the showers were OBVIOUSLY that of something that was painted over instead of applying the correct maintenance.

I also forgot to mention a total of 6 doorknobs so loose they rocked back and forth (not the right size for teopening), 4 broken locks, and a microwave that hadn't been cleaned on top since July 2002 over the course of the 3 rooms we looked at.

Again, I underastand normal wear and tear and also what distressed furniture loks like. But I went with Disney because of their quality - I pay almost $2000 a year in maintenance and expect Disney to keep the product (and my investment) up to par. Otherwise, I would have bought at a 'lesser' Timeshare and paid significantly less maintenance.

complain to Disneyworld internet site - send them a email - saying there thing you listed here.

you can complain to the resort side or the DVC side.

I would definitely complain since you feel that none of the rooms were up to specifications.

there are more room complains at BCV than the other resorts.

Recently returned from a December Trip staying at BCV in a Studio. My unit was very clean, and after looking around with a critical eye (that I never had before reading on the DVC board!

) all I found were those seemingly ever present chips in the VERY poorly chosen coffee table. And this has been the case on 2 previous stays in a one bedroom as well (Clean and if good repair - don't remember the coffee table!) We've had more problems in one trip at both Vero and BWV than we did in all three BCV visits... And I'd return to BWV or Vero in a second!

LOVED them both!

We'll get to see if the luck holds out twice this upcoming year! I may need to book the December trip after 7 months, so anyone not booking BCV for the first week of December because of spots and chips - you ARE appreciated!

Seriously though - I really hope you made your dissatisfaction clear with BCV managment and follow up with DVC. Letting them know of the problems is the first step in getting them corrected!

Yes, I spoke with both Member Services at the Preview Center, and with the hotel GM.

Yeah, keep those complaints coming and my family will be swimming in SAB by April. ;)

Seriously, we booked some friends in a BCV studio and really hope the room conditions are good. I think I will preface their stay with a chat about the "distressed" style of the furniture, so they are prepared. Plus, after that if some particle board is showing thru on the furniture, or some painted-over mold reappears in the bath, they will simply attribute that to the theming.

LOL @ pumpkinboy!

Actually, that's a good idea for the theme of the next DVC Resort: The Haunted Mansion. Not only is this one of the most popular attractions at Disney parks, but any mold, mildew, rotting furniture or holes in walls will only make guests exclaim, "Boy, they sure did a great job on the theme!" ;)
